It strikes me that, once a team gets to a certain level, they can pay a lot for very small improvements in their list.
We did it with Lovett.
Brisbane paid a lot for an improvement which amounts to the difference in performance between Bradshaw and Fevola.
Collingwood only paid pick 30 for Ball, but at the same time, the improvement to their side will only be incremental.

I did the exact same thing brother! I was of the opinion there is nothing Ball has done, that Armo couldn't possibly do.

great minds think alike :p

I actually watched it for the reason of well i bought it in the three pack of victories from the club but i hadn't watched it since i was there and I wished essentially to study the free kicks the dogs fans have gone on about AD NAUSEUM since that lovely night but then thought "i'll have a look at ball as well and focus on him too".

My conclusions: there was one dodgy free to roo but i have seen that paid many times before but the rest were pretty okay on both sides and i thought it was a fairly umpired game that the dogs could have won thus explaining to me the bitching by their fans (ie papering over the cracks of the wasted chances by the dogs and the fact they played three great quarters and fell off and we ALL know on this board what happens if you play 3/4 of a game)
and that if armo can get the ball then he can do what ball did.

TBH I don't really have an opinion of ball on GF day apart from what i have read as I've emotionally blacked it out I think :(. it seems he had a great game to essentially say goodbye.
I wonder how soon after that he decided to leave? thats a question that has bugged me.

I thought the frees for holding the ball against Hargrave and Higgins were very dodgy. But regardless the Dogs could've iced the game, just as we could've in the GF.

I reckon the facts that:
a) we scored more than them; and
b) we finished 5 games in front of them

Combine to equal "suck shit, move on".

I have indeed sucked my shit and moved on re GF day.

What Fehring said...

Missed chances were what really cost the Dogs in the Prelim, just as that's what cost us in the GF.

Time to move on and concentrate on 2010.

As for Ball, that's also history now. There's been enough talk about him; I'm intrigued to see how he goes for Collingwood.

Sorry I'm bored and there is nothing on my home board.

That quote says it all - we know. Just get behind behind your boys and make 2010 one to remember.

Good luck - except when we play!

Honestly wish we were still talking about Luke Ball positively, than the vast majority on this board defending Andrew "Scumbucket" Lovett. A tragic situation!

Who has defended him?

People sticking to the innocent till proven guilty aren't. It's called common sense.

Much like your decision to join in August 2009 I'd take it.

What's it got to do with anything when I signed up to an anonymous fan forum? Are u serious? I've been a social club member and reserved seat holder for as long as I care to remember. Have you? In case you haven't realized he has already offended twice and is about to be charged with an extremely serious crime. Nick Riewoldt and most of the players can't stand him and I'm sick to death of the innocent until proven guilty rubbish! As far as I'm concerned he's already guilty GUILTY AS SIN.

So our justice system is rubbish is what you're saying?

Would you move on Milney?
Would you move on Joey?
Would you move on Gram?
Would you move on any player with a reported blemish that is neither confirmed nor validated because of this innocent until proven guilty "rubbish"?

You set a precedence you better be damned sure of what you're suggesting at this point in time. Lovett is still in the allegation stage, depending on opinion Milney and Joey will never reclaim their innocence from their own allegations, the only difference is the size of the smear campaign right now. In your precedence, the club should have cut Milne and Montagna.

Which begs the question of how presuming innocence is exactly "rubbish". But I suppose, we are all prone to outbursts at times.

As far as I can tell Milne and Joey were supported 100% by the club and were never suspended. Gram-don't get where you're going there so I'll leave it.
The point is that Lovett was given a "lifeline" by the club and has treated everyone from the members, coaching staff, and fellow players with nothing but contempt. It is for this reason ALONE that I believe he should be shown the door right now. He is trouble-not content with stuffing up once he has done it again. Under normal circumstances I would apply "innocent until proven guilty" mantra but not here. IMO we should cut our losses.

I think Guide was trying to saying your recent sign up to this forum was a wise decision (as is the presumption of innocence).

In my view, regardless of what has actually transpired, Lovett has done something inappropriate (whether criminal or not) in a teammate's house. Not kosher.

To get back to Luke. I wish him all the best. He's a good bloke. Things just didn't work out with us. That happens.

"All the best", of course, being Ball winning five consecutive B&Fs while the Pies finish 9th, 11th, 14th, 16th and 16th.

I'm about to turn my mind towards DT & SC & wondering if Bally will be one of those picked by many Saints?

Not in SC brother. Doesn't use it well enough and doesn't kick goals.

DT perhaps.

DT perhaps.

This. With SC midfielders need to be of the exquisite foot variety or goal scoring (both is a bonus)

Point distribution went;

Goal: 8 points
Contested mark (opposition kick): 8 points
Contested Mark (teammate): 6 points
Effective Kick: 4 points
Hardball/looseball get: 4 points
Tackle: 4 points
Uncontested mark (opposition kick): 4 points
Handball: 2 points

Conversely a clanger kick was -8points, clanger handball -6 and free kick against -6 points.

So since Ball rarely kicked it and relied on getting the ball and tackling or offloading via handball you have a maximum output of 4+4+2=10 as opposed to a goal kicking mid (Joey last year for instance) 4+4+4+2+8=22. Not taking into account marking variables.

On an off day in SC Ball will score like a dog ruckman, on an off day a goal kicking mid will score averagely but above him.

DT it would depend on his price since he does get it.

Luke Ball was on SEN this morning. Interesting thread on the Collingwood board:
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=669798

As a poster on there said - why would Bally be 'pushing through the pain' & training but 'not trying to show he is in pain'? If they've made that kind investment wouldn't you take the time to get things right? Seems like a big risk to take to avoid egg on the face.
