I have always sensed that their is a club sitting quietly under the radar ready to pounce however I never expected it to be us

I would still be surprised

the thread on the Saints board was started by an adelaide bigfooty fan and has not quoted a source

I doubt the accuracy

would love for this to be true. I think if he agree's to join us all the other clubs would let him go through to the pick we are willing to use.
However this is the 1st time I have heard of this and would like a good source to confirm it. It might have some legs as Luke would want to play for a contender and he would love our facilities.

Having gone through the exercise of trying to pick the Crows 2010 line-up for another thread I don't reckon we need Luke Ball...based on the likely cost that would be involved. Prefer to see Reilly, Doughty, Sloane, who are all similar types who are borderline get a game ahead of him.

I would take luke ball in a heartbeat. Many people on here are underestimating him. The thought of Ball, Thompson and Dangerfield crashing in to get the hard ball makes my blood flow down there

To have Doughty and Reilly ahead of Ball next year would be stupid. I'd take Ball well before those two. I hope we give Sloane plenty of game time though next season.

If the crows were keen, we wouldn't need to see him train with us!

He will be asking for too much $$ and Melbourne will take him OR he somehow stays at St Kilda.

As I am sure nearly everyone would agree, there is NO WAY Crows would seriously look at Luke Ball. The club has made it clear that they will not make the same mistakes they made with Carey and Ronnie Burns. Crows have a great young list with too many quality players than it knows what to do with. Anyway, IMO Ball is not a top-tier midfielder as he is too slow and cannot kick it 50m. He has lots of courage, but that is not enough in today's game.

carey has definitely scared us off trading but completely different situations burns was a free shot with little cost the same as ball would be.

Luke Ball is a class player and still has some good football years left in him.

A second round pick in the ND sounds about right. Obviously his body and requested salary would require consideration.

Luke Ball is a quality player but IMO is too much of a liability because of his uncanny knack to always be injured. I would rather keep the $$ and give them to our rising stars than take the risk on him.

Once Myke Cook fires up on the wing we won't talk about the midfield as a problem ever again. Not even when he retires, because opposition players will simply stand there shocked at his awesomeness (thus allowing our future midfield to waltz around them) for several years after he hangs up the boots. Actually he won't even hang up his boots because there will be no boots left to hang up, they'll be incinerated due to his crazy pace, while spare pairs in his bag will spontaneously combust from the thrill of being next in line for the title of "Myke Cook's Current Pair of Football Boots."

But no, Ball would have to be worth looking at depending on how the cards fall in the draft. The way he has deteriorated athletically is alarming though.

I am sure everybody does NOT agree with your premise at all.

For the right terms he'd be a great get.

My "premise" was that the club would not seriously look at Luke Ball, not that I personally think he would not be a good inclusion (even though it is clear I do not). I think it is pretty clear that the club is not seriously looking at Ball as they have made it clear they are looking to supplement their list with younger players (which is wise because we already have more than enough players ready to have a crack next year).

:D Seriously though, people don't realise how awesome Cook will be. I'd say we're lacking pace and agility more than anything else in our midfield and that's what Cook will provide. He's going to be a very good addition to our midfield. He might only play 10 or so games this yea, but eventually he'll be a key. :thumbsu:

Yeah, he's in my top couple of players I want to see that we haven't really seen properly yet. (Along with McKernan, I can't split those two in my mind)

My order of excitement for players that I want to see next year that didn't play the majority of this season (I'm including Walker in that category) are:

1 & 2 - McKernan, Cook
3 - Sloane
4 - Davis
5 - Petrenko
6 - Young

I reckon all but Young are a good chance of playing next year too :thumbsu:

In advance my biggest hope for 2011 is to see Hendo playing :D
