Cats are offering 550k/4 years which is more than we're comfortable offering.

So what is your comfortable offering for a guy who has given 8 years service, multiple top 10 finishes in the B&F, premiership player and has watched a guy walk in and earn a million a year and do SFA?

Has he been offered less than $400k a year by the Dogs?

Someone mentioned yesterday it was around $325k which to be honest is a little insulting to Dahl. If that offer is true I’d say we’re pushing him out the door. Saying that he’s not worth anywhere near $550k if that’s what cats are offering.

Honestly with the form of Dunkley and Bailey Williams, Dahl would have been iffy to be best 22 next year, let alone in 4 years. A lot of people in here are judging him from 2016 and earlier, when he was a top 10 player for us. Yet this last year he played mainly forward, had limited time on the ball (was only attending like 3-5 center bounces a game), but still only kicked 2 goals in 17 games. Bont, Macrae, Maclean, Libba, Wallis, Dunkley and Williams are all ahead of him on the inside, and he doesn't have the skills to play outside. Even then Hunter, Suckling, Ed Richards and Caleb Daniel are all ahead of him on current form anyway.

It seems like Beveridge has made the hard decision to let him go and try and bring more class onto the list.

As for the Boyd jibe, without him you'd be 2016 premiers.

How do Geelong sign all these players on top dollar? Wells gets all the raps but their accountant is the real magician...

500k/yr isn't as much as it was considering the cap increase. They've got a big top end with Selwood, Danger, Taylor, Hawkins, and Ablett, but who else would earn over 500k? Richmond is even more pronounced.

We've had some retirements recently. Taylor and Ablett only have one more year left and depth players such as Horlinsmith, Thurlow and Murdoch are every chance to be moved on, thus clearing some salary space. Maybe Zac Smith requests a trade too. Dahlhaus deal is also likely to be heavily back-ended imo.

Not many players on big dollars these days, they have all retired.

Danger, Selwood, Hawkins, Taylor would be on $3 million combined. Wouldn't be many on $500+ after that. Duncan, Henderson, maybe Tuohy. They split GAJ contract over two years.

Harsh on Dahl- he's had a knee injury all season and we don't have many 25+ players.

The killer for him is that we started winning just after his season ended.

Yeah, it was telling that our contested ball didn’t suffer at all with him out. Still has a fair bit to offer as an inside/defensive midfielder in the right team, though. If he could overhaul his kicking he would be infinitely more effective.

It is a bit harsh, but his last year was just okay too. I wouldn't have any issues with a 2 year deal, or even one with a 3rd as a trigger, but decent money over 4? That's a lot when he could be a 15-22nd best player for us quite quickly.

Regarding the experience, I think the caveat for letting him go is that we need to bring someone in too. We probably need 3 more guys 24+ inside the best 22, as well as Libba and Suckling coming back (Picken is iffy obviously).

His exit interview was a long one.
Sadly I think he is gone.
Ironically he is going to the club he wanted to play for in the first place.

Lachie Henderson and Zach Tuohy left for Geelong for $400-500k no idea how they fit all these players in.

Which is why he`s perfectly suited at Geelong. Best attacking mids in the comp, just need to get Scott Selwood and Dahlhaus fit and then they have some defensively minded players too.
