Luke Mitchell!

Outstanding work ethic deliberately picked out by the CFC I reckon. Please tell me his shoulders are solid now. Fantastic sounding kid. How exciting. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

If not send him for the Walker op now and he'll be ready for the window opening!!

Sounds like he may have had that done already. Full steam ahead from here, I reckon we got a beauty.

As luck would have it – new Blues tell

“In the first ‘praccy’ match I did the shoulder and was out for 20 weeks,” Mitchell said. “At the time of the injury I was given the option to play on with a 90 per cent chance it could come out again, or I could get the surgery done and it was a 100 per cent chance of not coming out. So I got the shoulder done, came back at the end and it was good to come back.”

Great thing about recruiting 3 KPP is that they can develop together and when the time is right play in the seniors.

Also with Matty Watson and Luke Mitchell, both are Melbourne boys which is a bonus - none of this 4 years of development and then homesickness crap some players get.

The one thing that I'm thinking now though is where does Casboult fit in?

Ruck. This being his second preseason, he'll shed a few more kilos and build up a tank. Hampson, Setanta and Levi to share the duties.

GWS may well be hovering to poach Hampson. Especially if Kreuzer makes a full recovery. With the prospect of losing both Hampson and Setanta at the end of next year we could even take yet another 4 year prospect in the rookie draft - learning his craft in Bullants seconds.

impressive highlights in 2009 Gf.

Was his 2010 GF game just as impressive?

Liked when he marked near the boundary & played on when his opponent lost balance.

He looks to have some decent speed.

Hendo - CHF
Mitchell - FF

Good effort without much form behind him.

I got the vibe from WH in the review interview that Mitchell may be ready sooner rather than later.

Certainly big and strong enough already and would've been rated higher if he had a full season. Set shot kicking still needs a bit of work and it'll all just depend how soon he can get his game to AFL level. No rush mind you, Waite will still be around for a while yet.

Its funny, he could be the first of the three to get a game. .. Easier to develop in the forward line and the gain of releasing Waite could be too tempting. .. Hammer will probably get first chance in the role tho. ..

TBH if Bower ad White are fit all year I would be tempted to leave the back 6 and give the boys all a development year unless one of them start banging down the door with good performances at the Ants.

It now feels like we are waiting for them to develop into the final piece of the puzzle!

Agree, team stability has to be a real focus this year once the season proper begins - sure, blood our young prospects, but Ratts, we now have the luxury to do it with measure and with care over the course of the year: hope we don't have multiple unforced changes like we did last year on many an occassion and end up down one week and up the next. Looks like we have real depth and potential across the field now.

How are we down back now when you throw in the forgotten man, Mark Austin, with Watson, McCarthy, Laidler, and of course White, who impressed me last year - plethora of riches just simmering away and not long before it all comes to a rolling boil! Look up forward and it's "Land of The Giants" with Waite, Henderson, Mitchell, Kreuzer, Hampson and even Casboult potentially in the mix - this lot are complemented by the three supercharged "Munchkins" in Betts, Garlett, Yarran, and of course the man who I believe will carry on from where he left off last year - Walker.

In the midfield, McLean could be like a new gun recruit that we hoped he would be - releasing Judd, and I'm looking forward to see how Collins and Lucas complement our midfield group; Ellard showed a lot late last year and I'm hoping we might get to see Cachia. Looking so, so, so good - beginning to think that Top 4 is a distinct possibility!

With so much depth the Seniors and the Bullants look to be set for very good years!

Impressive highlights package. He's a very mobile one-grab 198cm CHF, who is an absolute natural in that role. Smart footballer. Can see with Hendo/Mitchell forward combo working nicely, with Waite being the 3rd tall, and Yarran, Betts and Garlett at ground level causing havoc and Walker doing the X-factor medium tall thing. We have the makings of an outstanding forwardline. This will be very good.

:)

Im rapt with this selection .
In the not to distant future we might have a seriously dangerous forward line .
I love a BIG 1 grab marking forward patrolling a 30m arc deep forward , Mitchell .
Henderson looks a natural hardworking leadup CHF .
With the backline taken care of , we can now use Waite as that floating , marking , dangerous x factor 3rd tall forward !
Surround these 3 with a combination of Robinsons attitude , the skill and danger of Yarran , Garlett and Betts , Walkers pace the addition of Collins and hopefully a maturing Kerr and WOW ! it does look exciting up forward in the future !!!

We don't necessarily need a superstar KPF combination like Franklin and Roughead or Fev and Brown (were supposed to be). With our midfield, possible defense and our small forwards we can get away with a couple of forwards who contribute those 30 goals each. A nice spread would serve our team very well.

Considering Hendo has already kicked 25 goals in his first season as a forward it is reasonable to suggest that he could progress to a 30-40 goal year which I would be more than happy with as a lead up CHF. He has shown he can match it with the best, kicking 3 goals on Scarlett and will be very important in the future.

What I like most about Mitchell is his contested marking which is something we lack in the forward 50.
