The main problems selection wise over the next month or so are going to be within our backline, and in particular our half backs. With Fasolo, Williams, Young, Langdon, Seedsman and Lumumba all playing in a reasonably similar position the time is going to come where some big calls are needed. Of those six I think we can only take in three, four MAX, and I think Fasolo and Williams are definite's so then only one or two of Young, Langdon, Seedsman and Lumumba and unfortunately I'm not so sure that 'H' has a spot with a fully fit backline the way things are going.
Thoughts?

I respect the effort you've gone to, but the answer is no. He was 7th in the league for R50's going into last night and with the way we structure up he won't be dropped.

With no Maxwell and Young he needed to play tighter to support Goldsack and Adams. He's as safe as anyone.

Yes, I like Harry's one on one ability to defend, his dash off the half back and ability to evade opposition tacklers in the defensive 50. Remember he was an AA in 2009 or 10. However, his kicking is what lets him down. We just can't have this type of liability in the team. This is the same reason Adams and Kennedy should be playing VFL. We need good kicks in the team. Until they can hit a target they will always be at risk of losing their position in the team. Fortunately bad kicking can be turned around - see Toovey.

He should be no certainty with a full squad to chose from.

His defending is vulnerable at times and he makes errors with his disposal. His best attribute to the side is his attacking nature and the way he takes on the game and makes things happen.
Tough call.

The way I see it is in a team of 22 you want atleast 8 defenders. 2 key defenders, 1 third tall, 1 small lock down defender and the other 4 to be able to decent jobs on resting midfielders, provide attack, rebound and run and carry from the Backline and be able to play other positions.

3 talls, pick from:
Reid
Brown
Frost
Keeffe
Maxwell

Lock down defender:
Toovey(number 1 guy picked)

Pick 4 Medium small defenders
Seedsman
Sinclair
Langdon
Young
Williams
Lumumba
Fasolo
Oxley
Scharenberg

I don't think he'll be dropped, but if Harry gEts injured and has has to work his way back in through the VFL, he may find it hard. Not many guys are automatic selection now.

I think its time we retired maxwell. There's no point playing him at he moment.
There's enough depth there to give the young players experience, they will out perform him by the finals.

I knew this sort of thread would come up. People need to realise that Lumumba played a completely defensive role last night and did it very well. To me it showed an enormous amount of maturity and improvement H has made to his game. Just because he didn't provide his usual dash that we've become accustomed to, doesn't mean he didn't play an important role. We kept the blues to 2.7 until 3/4 time. Our defensive group was superb to that point. He was a big part of it.

What a ridiculous comment. Seriously, just ridiculous. He's playing better than ever.

uh have you watched us play this year? He's been excellent
He's been good yes but it's time for youth, Maxy is old and injury prone, he will tire by the end of the year, it's best to get the games in to the younger players. Maxy has done well because he's been allowed to pay loose. Langdon showed last night he can do just as good a job of it. Seedsman too. Likewise someone like fasolo can offer more. Maxy is too limited, his turnovers too costly in big games. Add to that Scharenberg likely to be available later in the year there's too much talent to be wasted.

Not sure you were watching the blow out in the 4th quarter. Experience like Maxwell's is going to be invaluable playing against the top echelon of teams.

Neither should Swan or Pendlebury.

there is no basis in reality for these comments, seriously have you watching this season,Maxwell,s level of play this year is nearly on par with his AA season.
Who ever has the worse form goes out if that is Maxwell so be it but atm he does not deserve the chop none of them do but you do not cut your nose off to spite your face.

A number of players will start to feel the heat more.
With all, or close to all, players available a lot of good players may find themselves playing VFL.
As mentioned above, disposal efficiency [and effective goal-kicking] will come into sharper contrast at selection meetings.
You have to feel good about real competition for spots in the 22.

I would have agreed with you at the start of the season but he is in really good form and is a team leader.

H has really only two grey areas, he can occasionally get ahead of himself when deciding to take the game on but that is the price you pay for an attacking player and his kicking isn't outstanding.

POSSIBLY his disposal MAY come under scrutiny BUT any replacement would need to be as good an attacking runner AND a better disposer

H should be playing wing. I think he's only backline at the moment because of the inexperience and injuries to our preferred back 6. I think Harry is just about our best option on a wing actually... for me, if he's not back 6 then he's a lock for wing. His line breaking, reading of the play and ball getting abilities are too important for us to do without.

I'm not sure how the OP can come to the conclusion Harry is in trouble for his spot & Fas is a certainty. As others have noted, Harry played a defensive role last night due to injuries to our backs. With Maxy & Tooves & perhaps Young back, Lumumba returns to his attacking role that he does so well.

I think Harry's playing quite well and the team is thriving, so why are we talking about Oxley and Scharenberg who is yet to play a game in black and white at any level? Or Fasolo who has a couple of games worth of experience as a defender?
