Sad for him but we clearly did will out of this trade and got great value considering we wouldve delisted him anyway. He was struggling for Perth in WAFL when we traded him. Drum only ever really played one decent game for us and Dylan Roberton has already had a better career than Drum

Yeah feel for the bloke, just couldn't get out on the park enough. We did extremely well out of that trade though, should have 10 years out of Roberton.

Glad to see him go, as well as Peake, Warnock, Carr, all that is left from that era is Johnson, Crowley, Schammer.
Drum was a high draft pick at the time, had the skills, but you always questioned his mental application.
Freo seems to to be recruiting players on their mental fortitude, as well as ability with the ball lately.

Without wanting to sink the boots in, his retirement is possibly another indication of his mental weakness. Or maybe a better way to put it ... just didn't have the absolute hunger to play AFL football enough.

Only 6 VFL games since going to Geelong, kinda sad. Was supposed to be a 'can't miss' prospect when we drafted him. Turned out he didn't really have a natural position at AFL level. Still could've ended up a decent player without the injuries.

Bit harsh, he's probably seen the writing on the wall for some time. Two year contract coming to an end, played 4 VFL games in that time, yet to break into the seniors, a body that can't hold up to the rigours of full time contact sport.

In a twisted sort of way the best thing he did for our club was get us Roberton.

Good luck to the bloke for the future. Whatever that may hold

Wouldn't be confident about this at all.

Shocking luck for Drum, had so many unfortunate and bizarre injuries, I really hope he planned for this day in regards to future prospects.

Roberton certainly looks like a better prospect thus far.

Bad luck Drum, it is a total shame but I am glad that we made the trade when we did. Roberton will prove to be a more than adequate replacement for Mr Drum.

I do wish him all the best for the future. But hopefully this is the proof that our poor selections with high draft picks are a total footnote in history!

Really? Drum was pick #10 in the 2005 draft.

As mentioned Roberton has already played more games than Drum did since the trade. With Roberton there is a scope for improvement and gaining a solid mid-tier player.

Drum, now retired, is a dead end.

Trade good, drafting of Drum; Schwabollyesque.

Have a good look, the creep is a 2nd yr kid who is getting better,....

I'm not disagreeing with this, I just don't think he has enough tools to become a 10 year player. Disposal not quite up to it and a tad too slow.

I actually think he's quite similar to Drum, not tall enough to play KPD but too tall to be an effective flanker/midfielder.

You have to be damn good to last 10 years in this comp. I hope I'm wrong but I think he will end up on the scrap heap or at another club within 3 years.
