I accept that he was brilliant in India and he did play very well at the Oval. It was a tough pitch to get in on initially, but he played superbly well. I just can't put him in the same class as Punter, Waugh and possibly Gilchrist. It is a tough one and he was the leading player on the planet (stats-wise) following that tour. I just can't see him having got as many runs over the years in a weaker team, whereas Punter and Waugh would have got runs anywhere.

Andy Flower - great example of a brilliant, brilliant player that would have walked into any side in the world, and came out of test cricks with an average of over fifty in the world's worst side...(pre-Banglas)
Crickets mainly an individual sport when your batting so why would it be any different if he played for another less successful team??

Hayden is a class batsman who doesnt get the praise he deserves for an outstanding career at the top.

dont know if Warnes popular as a bloke but he has the respect of all the cricket world.

Mcgrath will be remebered as a Legend,

funny how this series the aussies were clapping and congradulating the English when they made runs, watching the Windies series from 10 years ago that Aussie side was full of Mungrel and it was good to watch.where the team now uses a certain arrogance to intimatate the opposition.
Agree with the last bit, showed in the last test when Hayden got out and as he walked off said to Flintoff "Well bowled, mate", wheres the aggression they used to show, should have told Freddie to stick it up himself.

Yes that was good - but that is because the only side to come close to the Aussies were the Indians, and they are generally a bunch of ********ers. I mean can you imagine having a beer with the Price of Bengal? What a prick he is.

Whereas i reckon most of the Aussies and English enjoy the knocks and thus would get on much better.

Oh, as regards the Steve vs. Mark thing, I reckon everyone would take Mark's on-drive which was sex on toast, or his astonishing punches through mid-wicket, but virtually everything else you would have taken Tugs because of his sheers grit. You may take Mark at first slip however.

yeah i like to see them show some sportsmans ship but you can personally congradulate them off the ground.

maybe there hunger wasnt all there, i still think that it does affect you no matter how hard you try but they had been winning for some long there would of been some complancency.

apparantly after last years grand final Brisbane players wernt affected by the grand final loss that much, im sure 3 in a row made up for it.

Dont worry Glenn McGrath still had that mongrel in him, Warney was the only one to congratulate Pietersen on his innings when he went out and thats because they are best friends

As for not many people liking Shane, are you serious? He seems the most likely to get on with everyone out of the whole Australian team for other players around the world

Everybody likes Shane, its his flaws that attract people, the fact that hes not a role model and thats he actually a pretty normal Aussie bloke. He's my favourite anyway.

He does say 'look' before answering any questions: in that he is fairly typical!!! :D

his not the first sportsman to have a reputation like his, espically his life outside of cricket, i think some people would not like him because of it.

but as someone said its how you look at him, a role model or a normal person who has made his mistakes.

his one of the greatest of cricket and Carey is one of the best in Football.both probaly arnt role model quality.

maybe this is the end and i agree its not a sportsmans responsibility to be a role model.

There were some whispers that Slats was the father of Gilchrist's child? Is this true - anyone know the low-down?

Did hear that, but Little Gilchrist does seem to have his dads ears.

Gilly's a great lad but Slats... ummmm... well.... less said about him the better
I know a guy who works for Albion, who meet the players about their helmets and apparently he said Gilly is all around the nicest bloke on the team.

Really? I heard they were both quite decent chaps - Slats seems a fairly good fella, although he does get on a touch too well with Mark Nicholas who really is a gripper

Since we're onto gossips, might as well go on with it: Who are the nicest blokes and who are the worst?

From some of what I've heard from people who've met or who know the players: Gilly, Pige, Haydos, Lang, Pup, Diz and all that are very nice fellas. While the likes of Martyn and Macgill obviously not held in very high regard

Interesting. Clarke and Martyn get on really well do they not? I also heard that Martyn was a bit dull and snears a lot: needs to smile. Although his chick is useful. Clarke, despite being an out of the jar Aussie! :D , looks like a decent enough lad.

Re. England - I know Straussy pretty well and he is a top lad. Fred just looks like a good lad as do most of the others. Reservations about Vaughan and Giles and the jury is still out about Jones who is basically chief ******** in the side, although handy at reverse swing!

From what I've heard, Simon Jones is a bloody good lad, and a great singer, too :D

Straussy is very sound, he is the Gilly for England, very very nice lad

Giles looks like a tosser to me

I don't know much about Michael Clarke, although I'm curious, wouldn't want our potential next Aus captain being a bit of a ********, not like Ricky Ponting was anyway

I know what you mean about Gilo. But Vaughan is his best mate (questionable).

I heard the Jones absolutely loves himself. Our Saffer is probably a bit of a chopper too - he certainly dresses like one.

Yes I had heard that Clarke was really close mates with Martyn. Seeing as I had heard Martyn was a ******, I thought that Clarke has to be questioned. He does look like a very high quality player as well by the way. I think everyone in England who could appreciate it, 'mmmed' when he belted that one drive back passed Freddy that evening in Birmingham, (pity Harmy bowled him with a jaffer of a slower ball) with zero effort. Looks like he has a dicky back though.
