First attempt at doing this, so be gentle... Probably quite similar to a lot of the other Phantom drafts in the forum, but let's face it we all read the same articles :)
Also I apologise in advance, as I've surely messed up the compensation / picks order somewhere along the line, but I tried my best!

Ok,.. Here goes..

ROUND ONE
No.
Club Player Rationale
1 ESS Hugh McCluggage Beast. Should be and will be #1 Pick, will slot in beautifully into an exciting bombers midfield 2017 onwards
2 GWS Andrew McGrath Traded up to get him,. Slight chance it could be Ainsworth which would also work, but I'm thinking McGrath
BL Nominate Jack Bowes - GCFC Matches
3 GCFC Jack Bowes Silky quality ball user and a local lad, just what GC needs. Would match ANY bid made for him.
BL Nominates Will Setterfield - GWS Matches
4 GWS Will Setterfield Too too to turn down,. Can't see GWS letting him go. Like Bowes, I think GWS would match Any bid.
5 BL Ben Ainsworth Brisbane are desperate for a marquee style player who will excite fans,. Ainsworth could be Anything!
6 CARL Will Brodie Safe pick. The blues will play it safe with their first pick, midfield talent is what they need most.
7 GCFC Tim Taranto GCFC like BL could use some X factor talent, Taranto or SPP here for me,. Go home factor a worry for SPP
8 FREM Sam Petrevski-Seton Could be the bargain of the draft. Local lad and super exciting - could be the one people look back at asking, how did he get to 8!!
GCFC Nominates Harry Perryman - GWS Matches
9 GWS Harry Perryman GWS have committed to him, I think this is reaching, but the compensation difference shouldn't deter them.
10 GCFC Jack Scrimshaw Same rationale as the Taranto selection, Could start down back in 2017, but long term midfield star.
11 SYD Griffen Logue With the Swans having an awesome midfield already, they will look to take a defender, an athletic monster.
12 GCFC Oliver Florent GCFC last pick for a while,. This could be any of about 10 players,. Will they go big? I'm guessing they stick with another mid.
13 NMFC Tim English A smart option for NMFC, a long term replacement for Goldstein, they could use mid's too, but this guy looks good.
14 WC Todd Marshall I can see WC reaching for possibly the best Forward in the draft,. Likely Kennedy successor, big guys don't grow on trees.
15 ADEL Daniel Venables Dangerfield 2.0? Unlikely, but they need Midfield excitement, that can play in 2017 - suits them well.
14 PORT Sam Powell-Pepper Will combine with Ollie Wines to become the Mighty Ducks-esque 'Bash brothers' for years to come.
16 BL Josh Battle Together with Schache, could be the key to BL becoming relevant again up forward, picks to follow soon - Take a big man!
17 PORT Shai Bolton Ports forward line is getting stale,. Bolton could be the excitement packet they crave.
18 WB Cedric Cox Having just won the flag, they can afford to roll the dice and add some flair. Someone will reach for him,. Future cult figure
19 SYD Jarrod Berry Looks like a hard working swans mid. Will do an apprenticeship under Kennedy and co. - Good replacement for Mitchell.

ROUND TWO
No.
Club Player Rationale
20 ESS Jordan Ridley A good sized forward / backmen that offers some good value and versatility for the Bombers - Big Bolter!
21 BL Josh Rotham Time to stregthen the backline, Lions likely bottom 4 next couple of years, but I can see Rotham playing 30-40 games by end 2018.
22 BL Alex Witherden If they double up here with quality defenders, in a few years time, their backline could be basis of their successful rebuild.
23 STK Jy Simpkin Best available (if still available) likely will be gone by now, but if still on the board, saints should pounce.
24 GEEL Patrick Kerr Vardy was always seen as a key forward in Cats plan,. He is gone now - time to add a big fella up forward for the future.
CARL Nominates Harrison Macreadie - GWS Matches
25 GWS Harrison Macreadie This should be GWS last pick,. They'll put themselves into deficit for 2017, but won't care. Another draft, another 4 top 25 picks.
26 CARL Jordan Gallucci Someone may reach for Galluci in the first round, seems to be a lot of chatter about clubs who like him, Blues will buy the hype.
WB Nominates Callum Brown - Collingwood Matches
27 COLL Callum Brown No way the Magpies let him go. Magpies would love the bid to come after their first pick, but I can't see it.
WB Nominates Jacob Allison - BL DO NOT Match
28 WB Jacob Allison Allison could be the big surprise reach-pick of the draft, a genuine 'Utility' who the dogs could mould into a number of positions.
29 RICH Brennan Cox The Tigers need some height down back, another guy who could go anywhere in 2nd/3rd round.
30 ESS Jeremy Goddard Big Lad and a Goddard.. Can see if happening :)
31 PORT Will Hayward I see port and the crows trying their best to pick the top talents from SA if possible, This has guy has bolted, very classy.
32 PORT Jonty Scharenberg Will go with one of Port's two 2nd rounders if he is still available. Another who could be the bargain of the entire draft.
NMFC Nominates Brad Scheer - GCFC Matches
33 GCFC Brad Scheer Gold coast are losing players too often, they should match any bids for academy players unless ridiculous.
34 NMFC Kobe Mutch North need depth everywhere, Mutch looks like a safe midfield pick, deserves to be gone by this stage.
35 NMFC Dylan Clarke Another quality midfielder who if still available I can't see the Roos passing up.
36 WC Zac Fisher Local lad who could spend a couple of years learning off Mitchell and Priddis, could be a ball winning monster longterm.
37 FREM Jack Maibaum Big Key Defender, Could end up playing very early in 2017 purely due to the lack of depth in Freo's defence.
38 STK Lachlan Tiziani Saints could go with some forward depth here, pretty good size 3rd/4th FWD option
39 GEEL Luke Ryan Mature aged Defender that could play round 1 for the cats, with them going for a flag next year, he could suit well.
40 FREM Myles Poholke Ball magnet with a mature sized frame, Freo could do with streghtening up their midfield further.

ROUND THREE
No.
Club Player Rationale
ESS Nominates Zach Sproule - GWS DO NOT Match

41 ESS Zach Spoule Bombers likely to try and bolster their forward line further,. Another big bodied KPP never hurts.
42 GEEL Willem Drew A country boy with a fair bit of versatility suits the Cats mindset, a good fit / long term prospect
ADEL Nominates Jake Waterman - WC Matches
43 WC Jake Waterman WC have a history of drafting father son players, but haven't hit gold yet. They will here. Waterman will be a star.
ADEL Nominates Josh Daicos - COLL Matches
44 COLL Josh Daicos Same goes with Callum Brown, No chance the Pies don't match the offer, This could still be a bargain in the long run.
45 ADEL Jack Graham It will be a dream come true if Graham is still available at their 2nd pick, no way they let him pass.
SYD Nominates Ben Jarman - ADEL Matches
46 ADEL Ben Jarman After missing their man during the trade period, the fans will tear the town apart if they miss Jarman. Won't happen.
47 SYD Sam Walker If there is one thing the Swans love, it's rebounding half bank flankers
48 MELB Hamish Brayshaw The demons will double their Brayshaw's on draft day with either this pick or their next.
49 CARL Joe Atley Tough Inside mid for a pretty fair price. Should be gone by pick 50.
50 SYD Kim Lebois Small forward that could be boom or bust, Swans can afford to roll the dice as their midfield is already safe as houses.
51 WB Oscar Junker local boy, dare I say it - A 'Project player' Dogs can afford to play the long game.
52 RICH Elliot Himmelberg KPP who the tigers may use up forward sooner rather than later.

ROUND FOUR
No.
Club Player Rationale
61 STK Patrick Lipinski Big tall Ex-basketball midfielder, The Saints have pretty solid depth already, can roll the dice on a long term option.
62 COLL Corey Lyons Brother of now GCFC Jarryd, may take a few years to develop like his brother but looks a solid pick.
CARL Nominates Josh Williams - GCFC DO NOT Match
63 CARL Josh Williams Outside speed, Gold coast won't have any points left, have to let him go.
GEEL Nominates Isaac Cumming - GWS DO NOT Match
64 GEEL Isaac Cumming Another who has already played senior footy and could figure in 2017, could go forward / back and fill a hole.
COLL Nominates Declon Watson - BL Matches
65 BL Declon Watson Another big bodied KPP, and a QLD'er, Lions can do with as many locals as possible - should match
66 COLL Brandan Parfitt Exciting midfielder/forward with pace to burn, Pies should grab him hear because he won't be around for long.
CARL Nominates Ryan Garthwait - GWS DO NOT Match
67 CARL Ryan Garthwaite SOS seems to love GWS players, and they need KPP to play down back - I can see this happening.
68 ESS Josh Begley Good sized Forward with potential, Bombers need the depth
69 MELB Alex Mastromanno A FWD who comes from Brighton Grammar.. Suits the Demons on many counts.
70 CARL Alex Villis Could have been top 30 player, but this week they've discovered a heart condition - Could be a star, could never play.
71 FREM Matt Guelfi Another local WA inside midfielder who the dockers could do with and get games into early
72 GEEL Taylin Duman Tall midfielder who the Cats could afford to develop and play the long game with.
74 GEEL Steven Slimming Quick wingman from SA who could inject a bit of pace into the cats midfield which may be a little slow soon.
75 WB Brodie Romensky Another local kid, If the dogs use this pick, why not another Western Jets kid?

ROUND FIVE
No.
Club Player Rationale
76 FREM Jordan Sweet Freo could do with another ruckman, This guy seems to be a tap beast like Sandilands,. Why not grab him late?
77 HAW Louis Cunningham Outside midfielder who if still available, the hawks should grab with both hands.
78 ADEL Jamie Hampton The crows should have two Hampton's by the end of the draft.

AND DONE...

Dammit.. read through it a couple times and still missed them both..

Don't really get why so many people have us taking Marshall with our first.

Will venture nude into Darling's tent if we do. Don't have much love for Waterman too but hoping to be proven wrong.

Nice read mate!

why would adelaide bid on waterman? they already have mcgovern and lynch.

like carbine above, i dont want marshall.

other than that its a good attempt.

FIXED the mistakes from earlier,. Hopefully should be no more errors sorry guys.

Adelaide has a history of bidding on guys just to get them off the board, move themselves up the list a little. I can see a lot of crafty bidding happening in the 2nd / 3rd rounds, just to bump up future picks etc.

It's funny, if you listen to the so called experts, they all Love Marshall, but WCE fans all seem to be pretty cold on the idea.. I agree he could slide, but shouldn't be too far. Me personally, I would never draft a ruck man in the first round. Too much risk. But Key forwards,.. sometimes worth rolling the dice.

ruckmen? Marshall is a KPF. Eagles midfield isn't that great and by this time next year we might lose two senior players in priddis and Mithell leaving a massive void in the middle. With this year being a good draft for mids it seems like most of us want us to draft mids. I get why people have us getting Marshall but we have mcgovern who is originally a forward, Darling (who kicked 50 odd goals in his second year when jk was out) and Vardy. Plus next year is meant to be a good draft for KPP's so i could see us drafting a few genuine KPF's next year.

Thanks mate, enjoyed the read and the rationale behind each pick

Everything you are saying is a solid argument,. I was just thinking at that pick,. he might be the best available,. and with kennedy getting older,. and Darling a possible go home candidate, might be good to sign up the best Key forward in the draft.. but you offer a solid argument re. your midfield. Also, apologies my ruckman comment was not clear either,. I was making a point about take big guys in the first round. :)

but Darlings from WA. All those darling traded rumours came from non legitimate sources. Even if darling doesn't reach the heights that many predicted, he's type that could kick 60-55 in the absence of JK. Even with him being sketchy and us being Jk centric he has been getting around 40 goals regularly (except last year).
One benefit of really investing in midfielders now is the ability to build a solid squad by 2019 . By then both Lobb and Hogan will be out of contract. Im not banking on them coming and still want us to pick a few KPF's but if you add one of them to partner darling and our fowardline looks threatening again. I doubt we could land either unless we build our midfield and show that we could contend again in the near future. Im of the belief that a side with an elite midfield with an ok forwardline is more likley to win a flag than a side with an elite forwardline and an ok midfield. our Midfield in a few years time will have guys like shuey, sheed, Gaff, redden (hopefully can find his best form) and Duggan reaching or still in their peak. I think thats a solid core but no way will that midfield alone power us to a flag so we will need to bolster and hit the draft hard in the next few season. We have around 4 picks this draft. Waterman is just about a certainty so that leaves us 3 picks for mids but i also want us to land a genuine crumber as we have lacked one since the retirement of phil matera.

I see your thinking,. And ultimately we always know our own club and needs better than oppositions,.. If I had your thoughts before I did it, I probably would have suggested a type like Venables or SPP perhaps,.. I think like us, you'd love to see florent slide,.

Bolton at 17! Just wont happen. Very surprised you have him so far in front of Hayward.

I'd love to Jarman avoid nomination completely so the crows can take him with pick 89,.. But I'd also match the bid if he went anywhere after our first round pick,. I just couldn't watch him in another jumper tearing it up.

don't mind your picks for us, a few thoughts-

can't see us taking Battle with Jarrod Berry and Jy Simpkin still available would love both those on our list. players you had as available at our picks i would have gone- Ainsworth, Berry, Simpkin and Witherden.

if the bid for Allison comes after our pick 22 i think we will match unless there is still someone on the board we rate as a clearly better option, looking at who was still available on your board nobody jumps out and says pick me IMO.

great first up effort Maggsy :thumbsu:

Cheers mate,.. Love the pick of Ainsworth for the lions,.. Exactly what you guys need,.. Could be ridiculously special player.

If Carlton bid at pick 26 because of the FS discount we can use our second pick in the draft to match the points required for Brown, we wouldn't need to use pick 28 I'm lead to believe.

thinking about that matching a Jacob Allison or Declan Watson bid a bit more if the bid comes virtually straight after our bid 22 there is no way we wouldn't match ie. our next picks after 22 are 76 and 78, no point in not matching a bid at say 23, if we didn't match our next live pick would be 76 and you are not going to get anybody better than the 2 academy boys at 76. i hope that makes sense and is correct Maggsy
