Nineteen-year-old Essendon rookie, Rhys Magin, has been upgraded to the senior list following the season ending back injury to Jason Winderlich who has been placed on the long-term injury list.

The 180cm Magin was an emergency for Saturday's game against Richmond. He was taken by the club as a 2007 rookie selection.

Meanwhile, captain Matthew Lloyd, needs just six goals to reach 874 career goals, which would take him into equal eight-spot in the all-time history of the game, level with Peter McKenna.

Lets hope the kid doesn't get a game in the seniors this year. I fear for his safety as he is way too skinny.

I suspect he is in line for a game this week ;)

he'll be fine. wellingham from collingwood wouldn't be too much bigger?

cheers for the heads up ant! one possibly good aspect of all the injuries is getting to have a look at a few rookies. :thumbsu:

the kid can play. looks to have that intangible quality of "extra time" , but whether that extra time will evaporate in the heat of a Bombers - collingwood match remains to be seen.

worth a try though, as he is easily the most talented of the four rookies.

the way we are going with injuries, john williams and Cale hooker might have to debut shortly as well!!

Hope he gets a game, from the little I have seen of him he has fantastic instincts and always manages to find himself space. Still inconsistent and he is a twig of a kid, but I think he could manage anyway.

You say that like it is a negative. Hooker has been far more impressive and consistent for Bendigo then Magin.

Yes but he can't fill a role in the midfield if Monfries and Welsh dont come up.

If Magin does play this week, I can guarantee you he will not play in the midfield. Magin will play on the flanks or/and on the wing.

Last time i checked just about every side rotated their flanks and wings through the middle at some stage. If he plays he will spend a few minutes here and there in the midfield rotations doing exactly the same as Jetta,Myers,Reimers and a few others have done.
Will probably spend a good deal of the time watching from the sideline.

no negative. if neagle misses, and they want an additional tall forward, then Hooker will be under consideration. he wouldn't be considered without the ridiculous injury list, but neither would magin, atkinson etc either.

I was making the point that those three are almost the last guys still available.

I like this kid, really composed when he has the ball and usually uses it well.

Hopefully he'll play a couple of games before the season's out, so he can gain a bit of confidence in himself that he is infact more than capable of being an AFL regular in years to come.

I hope he doesnt play going by the luck we are having with injuries at the moment:D, the last thing we need is another kid to slow his progress with an injury. Best of luck to the kid if he plays, its always good to give the kids a go

Jetta and Reimers this year, have played mainly on a flank and have pushed up onto a wing (Rotating) and not the midfield, so you might want to check again. ;)

I thought with you knowledge of Bendigo, you would've known that Magin has been used on the wing and as a HF. Why all of a sudden at this stage of his career and development would he be included in the midfield rotations at AFL level when he doesn't even play midfield for Bendigo? He doesn't even have the body or the endurance yet....

Rotating with Reimers, Jetta, Dyson and even Stanton on the wings and flanks is being alot more realistic.

So when Reimers and Jetta have been inside the centre circle for ball ups they have been playing on the wing or flank have they ?
Maybe you had better take more notice of who actually contest the ball ups at various stages of the game.;) There have been various stages this year where they have been used in the middle for a short stint.
I have not said Magin will play a lot of time in the middle but he will spend a few center bounces in there if he plays. He is a midfielder so he will get a little exposure to playing in the midfield. It is not a sudden change or will it be for any great length of time.
As far as my knowledge of Bendigo goes i have seen only seen 6 games this year so far but in those Magin has had a crack at the centre bounces. He has not spent a lengthy period of time in the middle but he has been in there at various stages.
I dont know why you even mentioned endurance as at no stage was i suggesting he spend lengthy periods of time on the ball. He would probably on go in to the middle for a centre bounce and a short run on the ball (no more than 2 or 3 minutes) once per quarter. The rest of the time would be spent on the bench or like you said at half forward/forward pocket.

So with all these injuries. What player are yet to play a game in the seniors? Magin, Hooker, Hocking? is that all?

J. Williams, A. Lee, S. Gumbleton, D. Chartres and D. Dick have also failed to get a run with the seniors in the home and away season.

I do hope Magin is thrown in the deep-end this weekend and gains the exposure necessary for his development. Even if it is the only game he gets this year, have a crack mate, best of luck!
