Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Ok i know thats a massive statement and its on the back of 2 big performances by Mundy and 2 slightly average Pav performances.

Mundy and Barlow is middle winning clearances, then we get all the youthful run and we have a very dominate side.

I personally think Pavs a bit of a fumbler in the middle but is great for clearing bodies or jamming it on his boot and getting it inside 50. Mundy actually makes right decisions in middle and we clear effectively.

He may not be as important but if he does go he has raised his profile beautifully.

Interesting call, troubling call but good call (imagine me in a red wig)

This is one of those rare threads that your answer actually surprises yourself (give me a break - I'm hungover).

I think Mundy is a key signing - his use is wonderful and if we can keep him and with a Barlow, Hill, Morra, Fyfe engine room ...it looks pretty good.

Though having both is better than one.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Mundy is key trade material. Whilst finishers like him are always nice Stephen Hill and Mora will be stepping up to take his place and hopefully also able to run out a full game.

For as good as Mundy can be he rarely does it for 4 quarters. People were saying he was BOG yesterday, yet he only really contributed for 2.5 quarters. He went missing and so did our team for a period there letting the other side (which was heavily injured) get within 20 points. This same thing happened during the Carlton, Melbourne, Richmond games and many others this year.

If mundy can do some training in the off season for once and get his body right for a full game then I would be fine with him staying. However he has had 6 years of not delivering on that front and a younger mid would be a better fit for our club. I'd like Griffen from the bulldogs instead of Mundy. Both would be on similar wages.

This thread is like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey for you memories :D

Probably the most sensible Mundy contribution you have made.
Good to see you coming around. Even if it is only slightly!

So basically... Mundy = Our team. Gotchya.

He is the midfield leader. I'm not saying he is the only one that is fading out of games (young players tend to do this) however he is a 6 year veteran that RELIABLY fades out of games. No one will deny that Mundy will rarely put in a 4 quarter effort, except maybe you of course. However his quarter by quarter stats don't lie.

Who would you rather have in the side, Mundy or Griffen?

One is fast, a ball winner with decent disposal that can run for 4 quarters.
The other is average speed, average ball winner, with decent disposal that can run for 2, maybe 3 quarters.

Barlow entering our team, a first year player, 21 years old, showed how ridiculous a player like Mundy has been for our side. You can rely on players like Barlow to win you games, Mundy is CC era "maybe he will maybe he won't" . If Mundy can stop being lazy with his training and actually run out a full game consistently in the midfield I will eat my words.

However until that time I'd like to get in a player that can do it, like Griffen. Having a good list isn't about sentimental favourites, Mundy has value right now and if we can utilize it why not.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Clearly I would love for Mundy to sign on,but if does leave we are going to get a high draft pick for him, providing he goes to a victorian club. What $ would he be commanding 400k - 600k per annum?

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Someone dug in two years ago making points that we screwed up our drafting and should have drafted and tanked as he thought. When you're so wedded to your beliefs it's hard to admit you're wrong.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

I agree Mems, he is an awesome player.

....

Mundy's sig is a big deal for us going forward and we need it to maintain some clearance pressure in the middle for years to come, if in the unlikely event he does request a trade I'd expect nothing less than a top 10 pic & and starting 22 player.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

I reckon he signed with GC before the season started and is off... Hopefully we get better compensation than what Adelaide did with Bok

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

After match Mundy said"
“The young guys coming on have been terrific and we have 10 or 11 of them in our side each week,” he said.

“It’s taken a lot of pressure off the older players like Spider (Aaron Sandilands), Pav and Luke McPharlin down back.

“If you had told me at the start of the year that we’d have a final at home and win it, I would have laughed at you, along with a lot of people.

“We’ve really battled since ’06 and hopefully we can get some sustained success now.”

Doesn't sound like someone that's leaving.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

Captains generally, usually don't leave their teams.... unless your name is Judd:eek:

( Possibly Leigh Colbert also??)

Colbert definitely. His decision makes Judd's look not too bad. Having had long-term injuries while captain, and with the club standing by and showing faith in him, he bailed pretty much as soon as he overcame the injuries.

In the spirit of this thread, Pavlich not re-signing would be a devestating psychological blow to the club. In other terms, and at the risk of being blasphemous, if they are closely rated as the thread suggest, and if the trade was to GC, we would get much better compensation for Pav than Mundy. A couple of first rounders for Pav, an end of first round pick for Mundy.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

I would pick Pavlich over Mundy in a team any day of the week. But in trade terms, if Pav went to GC we would get the marquee package, with Mundy we would get pick 20+. But........

They would both be absolutely crazy to not resign.

Pav will stay anyway. He was born purple.

Steven Gerrard from Liverpool was on the verge of signing with Chelsea for big bucks. He was asked by Benitez after winning the Champions League what he wants from football.

He made the decision to be a one club player and try and generate a Premier League title. Unfotunately with Gillett and Hicks not much has come since then, however he is adored by the fans and football community. Different game and rules, however...

With the direction of the Dockers one would presume we are going to be in the 8 for the next 5 years. THere is a window available for a premiership there which may not be available at other clubs. We play footy for flags, not for money.

GC can't sign anyone before the season is over, against the rules. I would imagine then IF Mundy did sign something that it is null and void.

Re: Is Mundy signing bigger then Pav?

We NEED Mundy, Barlow and a third gun in there. This is so Pav can play at FF for the next 2-3 years and kick 65+ each year.
