Did anyone else read the article in the paper today or see Blighty at half time on Channel 10?

I'm a little biased being South Australian and a Woodville-West Torrens supporter but the comments in that article pissed me off no end.

Malcolm Blight's record stands almost second to none. I was wrapped that he got a right of reply and I honestly think St. Kilda pulled the trigger on him way too early.

I am old enough to remember the joy I got from watching Geelong under Blight and I will always have a soft spot for him (and defend him when people say he has lost the plot!!).

He turned Geelong into an amazingly attacking side that brought people through the gates.

My only regret was he never managed to get Geelong over the final hurdle.

I was stoked that he won flags with Adelaide because I felt he had done the hard yards and deserved to enjoy the thrill that comes with winning a premiership.

Malcolm, as far as I am concerned, you are a Geelong man. You showed me how exciting footy can be when played with a certain spirit and flair.

The Saints will never really know what it was they let go.

Well Rod Butter-fingerss was the cause of two coaches leaving the Saints. I know there were personal business ddealings gone sour between Butterss and Grant Thomas, but he really dropped the ball regarding Blighty. Back-to-back Premiership coach, and coached another side to three Grand Finals - what the f*ck went wrong? Personality conflicts?

Blighty's a bit eccentric as we all know, but that's his thing. Coaching is his thing, too. If he had've been left to get on with it at the Saints, who knows what could've happened?

st kilda would have imploded, history tells you as such

No such half-time interview here in Perth. Two f_____channels with footy and they've both got the Gabba game which is seriously the worst game of football ever seen (I saw amateurs today with far better ball handling and disposal). Wet Toast either aren't trying (the coaches not the players) or don't care any more, and the Bears (hang on, it was the Lions, wasn't it) didn't have to try.
A good game on TV in the rest of the country and we can't f_______ watch it. I/m getting f_______sick of this!

On the Blight thing .. yeah yeah, but I'll never forgive him for the first qtr of the 1991 Prelim Final when Geelong lost the toss and, kicking into a 5-goal hurricane on a day that maxxed out at 5 degrees at Arctic Park, he left the then-best player in the competition, Barry Stoneham, at full-forward for the entire qtr. Ball didn't get close to him. Game (and season) over!

Butters went through a long winded recruitment process and in the end selected Blighty. Then he sacked him after not very long for basically...being Blighty. Stoopid.

Butterss, along with Gardner (Melb), were two of the most arrogant and incompetent people ever to set foot in a football club. How the former in particular didn't get the ass after the Blighty thing was astounding - how do you sack a bloke after less than a season?

All of the Cats players loved Blighty, a lot of them still keep in pretty close contact to him. Says a lot about him, even if he is as crazy as a shithouse rat.

Blighty just proved what a toss pot Butters is tonight. ken Hinkley doing OK for himself as well since being sacked from the Saints. I don't think Blight would have been successful at the Saints though. Their club culture is always against them.

Been from the gayest suburb in Melbourne ?

Blighty has a soft spot in all supporters at geelong
He has a great understanding of the game and should have been given his opportunity.
I was upset watching him on tv defending himself. There was no need
I know that by far most supporters agree with my views
In the future people will remember Blighty but have no idea about Butress

And Grant Thomas after

And Ken Sheldon before Alves. Their track record is, in fact, startling:

1990-93: Ken Sheldon takes the team to the finals for the first time since color frickin TV came to Australia. He is the most successful coach the club has had since they won the flag in '66. St Kilda sacks him.

1994-98: Stan Alves takes the Saints to the GF in '97, and the finals again in '98. The coach who has taken the Saints closer to a flag than anyone since 1971 is rewarded by being sacked.

1999-00: St Kilda's seemingly suicidal desire to keep sacking coaches until they find someone incapable of success finally pays off. The man loses 31 of 33 games after a false dawn early in his career. He's clearly terrible and the team is at an all time low. St Kilda does not sack him!!!; Watson himself eventually resigns.

2001: A true AFL legend, highly respected super coach is appointed to put together the pieces of this rabble. Riewoldt and Koschitzke are drafted.

.. what happens next everyone has their own opinion about. I'll just observe that St Kilda, during the period of their most sustained success and competitiveness in the competition, sacked almost everyone responsible for it.

Blighty had no need to defend himself,he is a legend of the game, Buttress is an arrogant ******** who turned a side with the potential to be a great team into a basket case. His claim to fame is the he back stabbed everyone including his best mate.

It goes further back than that. Like 110 years back.

I can't understand why Malcolm decided it was a good idea to go to a shit club like St Kilda.

What will Butterss do next? Drop an 's' and spread his ineptitude into the corporate world? Leave obscene phone messages on Grant Thomas's answering machine? Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of...
