The Malthouse to Richmond thread is old now. How would Malthouse moving to either of these clubs affect our future?

If he went to the demons or the blues would it affect our chances of a premiership in comming years? (the old whose list has more talent and whoose getting more out of what they have)

Personally I think if he went to carlton they'd impove drastically they do have some talent and they do have room for improvement. (He's alos a much better coach than Ratten will ever be).

opinions?

That Depends on if Mick wants money or success !

He can Deman what dollars he wants at the cheats because they are desperate & delusional about their list.

They believe they have a list that is capable of winning a flag & have the worst coach currently coaching only because his mates with stick's but they would pay mick close to 1 mill a year to get him or paul roos.

Melbourne on the other hand despite last nights pathetic performance have a much better list than carlton.
Melbourne have a very good balance across the ground & in all areas but wont be able to meet or match carltanks offer.

Carltank $1mill per season & finish between 5-9

Melbourne $500k and become top 4 in 3 years.

If he moves from collingwood... (which is highly unlikely IMO) ..... then we should chase him.... end thread. I love DH... but an opportunity like MM doesn't happen very often...

Surely you jest?

Do you know how long it took MM to win a Premiership?

Thanks but no thanks, I'd rather we stick this out and give Dimma a chance to finish off something HE started.

MM got Collingwood from wooden spoon to 2 grand finals in 4 years... then rebuilt a complete new side and won a flag.... The love for DH is pure puppy love at them moment.... he has really achieved nothing.

We are travelling in the right direction but from finishing 15th there is only really one direction.

DH hasn't put a foot wrong.... neither did Frawley in his first 2 years..

You seriously aren't comparing the Collingwood side MM took over to the one DH has taken over are you?

This is the side Malthouse basically tooko over and took to 2 GFs

B: 26 Ben Johnson 14 Shane Wakelin 8 James Clement HB: 15 Carl Steinfort 35 Simon Prestigiacomo 37 Ryan Lonie C: 11 Shane O'Bree 5 Nathan Buckley (c) 9 Glenn Freeborn HF: 1 Leon Davis 23 Anthony Rocca 19 Nick Davis F: 10 Rupert Betheras 20 Chris Tarrant 25 Josh Fraser Foll: 12 Steven McKee 17 Scott Burns 18 Paul Licuria Int: 24 Tarkyn Lockyer 29 Heath Scotland 7 Jarrod Molloy
4 Alan Didak

FAR FAR better team then the mess Dimma inherited from Wallace.

Talk about eating our own.

That would be the worst possible outcome for the short and long term development of our club. I couldnt care if GOD himself was available, but Benny has gone a long way to putting stablity into a traditionally fractured club, and for the first time in decades we appear to be united.

The two ways Malthouse would come in, the worst by sacking Dimma and installing him as coach, and equally as bad by appointing him as some kind of football coaching director which would automatically undermine Hardwicks authority. Dimmas contract must stand, and under no circumstances altered with out his 100% direct approval.

Most of them would be walk up starts to our best 22?

They weren't at Collingwood when Malthouse arived.... He built a Grand Final side.... then rebuilt a premiership side form scratch... Allen Didak is the only player who competed in the 2003 and 2010 sides...

If Malthouse becomes available then we should try and get him.... Nothing against DH...

Lets go through the players Dimma has bought in then shall we.

Grigg
Houli
Martin
Astbury
O'Reilly
Contin
Jakobi
Batchelor
Conca
MacDonald
Miller
Dea
Farmer
Griffiths
Nason
Webberley
Taylor
Helbig

Dimma has had to build his team from ground zero, MM already had a team in place but was missing a few pieces to his puzzle.

I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one, I think Dimma is doing an excellent job with the resources available at his disposal, and IMO hiring MM would set this club back a good 5 years after all the hard work others have done to get this club back onto it's feet.

I have not once said DH isn't doing a good job. I think we are on he right track.... but getting Malthouse would assure us that we are on the right track.

No it wouldn't, MM has had over 10 years to perfect his game-plan and bring in the right people in all the key areas, you are giving Dimma not even half that time.

MM is the most experienced coach working in the league. He is in arguably the hottest of AFL hotseats at Collingwood and has made them the Premier team which shows he could handle the comparable pressure nad media exposure at a coming Richmond. he is a top coach.

Do I want him? No. I'm happy to trust the young man who is so far doing a good job. It's always esier to go for experience but its often right to trust potential.

Lets just give DH and his team the chance to finish a job that they have started & If mick ever had any intentions of coming to richmond that would of well and truly of been known before know.

Off to carlton & make millions for doing nothing mick,we dont need/want you at tigerland ..................... Happy with hardwick

And what would his contract be worth? $800k-$1.2mill p.a.?
I'd rather Hardwick, and the extra money went into Development, PRO upgrade, a RFC Reserves team, Free Agency etc etc. would help us more longterm than hiring MM on a megabuck deal.
Hard to see that happening, especially since the FTF appeal was to specifically address those needs. Imagine the backlash if the club did a u-turn and paid that sort of money out. Their credibility would be shot.

Malthouse to the dee's. Roos to carlton

...agree...:thumbsu::thumbsu:...

I would only take MM at richmond if Bucks came with him...as far as i am concerned its bucks that has fine tuned the Pies forward structures into the awesome unit they are now...

To me MM is a seasoned experienced coach who knows how to develope a young list into strong physical sides...his time at footscray, wceagles now the pies...

A little like Dimma at the moment at Richmond...

MM would be the perfect coach for melbourne with their young playing list...

MM is just a tad inflexible with his game plan tactics for my liking...Bucks is the more innovative in that respect...
