was just checking the odds for this seasons brownlow. couldn't find marc murphy at first then discovered he was on the next page listed at 200-1. had to put a fiver on it

what do you guys think? stupid, one eyed or just too optimistic?

A tad optimistic - but then again, he was having a great year until he got injuried. Looks to be getting better and barring injury, he could get some votes.

If we win enough games, then maybe, maybe he'll be up there in the count but there are too many players who are better than him at this stage that will get votes off him. It's good odds though, I'd chuck $10 on him myself.

Even though he won't win it. Never say never... no, actually, I gotta say "no he can't" - until two or three years pass at least. ;)

those would be good odds in 2009/10. ie, bit early just yet. We have to win some decent games before he's receiving 3 votes by the umpies.

He's going to win one. Its just a question of WHEN.

Not this, year, not the next.

Ben Cousins (who is Murphy's common comparison) only won one 2 seasons ago. Give him some time.

He's already a star however i almost cant believe it.

No hope this year I don't think but look out later on. This boy can play. No one talks him up a great deal, but he's about as good as they come.

Since Bryce has arrived at the club, the "pressure" would have lifted of Marcs shoulders, and he can just get down to the business of playing footy, without having the tag of "current no. 1 draft pick" hanging over him.

His game last night was superb, and his supergoal off 3 steps had Gilly and I fighting over the last few tissues! :)

Watching his game last night, that was the thought going thru my head as well... just how good he is for a just turned 19 year old. He reminds me more and more of a Cousins type player.

Watching him run all day, all over the ground, the amount of times he was at the bottom of a pack, then all of a sudden, dishing out a handball, then running down the ground to receive the ball, breaking a tackle, hitting a teammate on the chest.

This boy is something very special.

I couldn't help watching and thinking that he will be our next brownlow medalist one day. His effort is second to none, his attitude is incredible, his skills are superb and he has the biggest heart next to Setanta :) i'm so so glad he came to us. I still have to remind myself he's only a kid.

Gives me goosebumps each time i watch him.

The crowd loved his first run down the wing, and kick into the fifty :):thumbsu:

Watching Murphy last night only confirmed my belief that he is already in the top 10 midfielders in the league. The way he wins the football, and uses it to advantage is just extraordinary.

Only problem is he is stil a way off physically, and I doubt he'll last the season without getting injured - like last year. Plus, we probably wont win enough games for him to be a Brownlow shot. But in the next couple of years he'd have to be a definite chance

I think he's now proved to be our best midfielder. He can find it inside. He can find it outside. And damn, he can kick the ball out of any pack. :D :thumbsu:

there was a thread about your top 5 blues players, i said my favourite was kouta and murphs number 2.

sorry kouta but you have now dropped a spot. after seeing murphs play live for the first time i was amazed, thrilled, flabagasted, in awe of the kids ability. his supergoal was a burst from a pack and off two or three steps he went bang from outside 50.

the other thing i noticed was he has the "flick".

The Flick : where one is tackled by one or more opponents and a "flick" of the hips, and away they go. he has it not many do, robert harvey has it, (note: never have i or will i compare murphs to harvey ........ it just isn't done :thumbsu: ) cousins another, it's just magic when they do it and boy am i glad Murphs has it and a whole lot more. fantastic to watch and i envisage many trips across bass strait this season purely just to watch him live again.

there not bad odds for murph ,ill have to have a 10 or 20 on that..been the player of the nab cup for me so far..could have a ripper season

He has superstar qualities already. Everytime he plays, he takes his game to a new level. Murph's possessions are mostly heavily contested not Hodge soft back pocket receives, and have extreme hurt-factor. He has an extraordinary natural awareness and can sum up a situation and choose the best option in a fraction of a second. He has the basic skills mastered, and now works n the advanced skills i.e. eexecuting delivery while being tackled, kicking off one-step, lightening quick decision making. He is a complete professional. Gibbs shares the same attributes. :)

Lets not lose sight of how important Nick Stevens is to our club. His last 2 games have been very good, and he looks primed for a big year.

As does Kade Simpson, who keeps getting lots of the ball as well. Our midfield is now looking very very good for quite a few years to come.

Perhaps a better bet would be Murphy for top 5 i havnt seen odds but i dare say they would be pretty good
