Sledge the player, not their family. End of.
Fair enough, but at this point that's an opinion, that doesn't get enforced. Partners are a go to sledge.

The point being that having a crack at family, your wife etc. is and still does happen. Majority of it just crass filth where players give as good as they get and move on.Said Marsh to Botham, in 1982 . . . racism was also fairly common back then. Doesn't make it ok now.

alright tough guy. I just don't advocate for soft ***** like you attacking people, while they are laying on the ground. If you are going to do it, atleast have the intestinal fortitude to do it while he is standing up. kicking someone when they are laying on the ground, it the epitome of a cowardice and you advocate it...
I don't agree that what was said was correct however this isn't the first time this has happened and Murphy is the first one to have such a sook about it.
Sam Fisher copped it from Buddy according to posts above but nobody cares and the media don't run with it because it's Buddy and he can do no wrong. Put a Saints player in the wrong and holy crap get the papers printing!
Pissant story from the continually shit Melbourne media.
I wonder how many drug cheat and cokehead calls Carlisle has copped this season and will cop against Essendon. Such a tuned media machine that will never let the big clubs look bad (good bloke Hodgey drinks and drives and attempts to crush peoples heads into goalposts but he's such a good bloke it's fine)
Or he just had enough of a false rumour being spread.Whatever the sledge was there must have been a stinging truth to it for Murphy to have reacted that much.
Clayton Oliver?

Botham was clever and witty enough to have a crack back and all is fine.
I am unaware of anybody who actually knows what was actually said, but everybody knows it crossed the line?
Are people actually saying that any sledging about family is over-stepping a line!?
Whatever the sledge was there must have been a stinging truth to it for Murphy to have reacted that much.
The overwhelming majority of sledging is just purile, crass stuff said to try and put somebody off their game. That is the entire point...what is said on the field would not be acceptable off the field the majority of the time. There's a difference between sledging that is funny and witty and stuff that just crosses the line. The great sledgers have always been done by blokes who never make the headlines for crossing the line.
Would make him look very insecure.Or he just had enough of a false rumour being spread.
I thought that too but maybe he just had a gutfull of it all given how long the rumor has been around. Not sure.Whatever the sledge was there must have been a stinging truth to it for Murphy to have reacted that much.
Wow.Boys will be boys hey St Kilda supporters
Nothing like a bit of misogyny with your footy on a Saturday afternoon
IF
Your captain is sledged from pillar to post by that villainous cad Jake Carlisle
THEN
Stand up a bit taller for him in the final quarter. Squibbing vital contests that cost you the game is not what the doctor ordered.
Crikey look at all the st Kilda supporters saying fair game to crack into someone about their choice of partner.
Perhaps one shouldn't be surprised when they support guys like Milne and Montagna.

Like most things these days, EVERYTHING is off limits if someone takes offence.
Wow.
My initial reaction, as was for most St. Kilda supporters was that Murphy is a weak dog for waiting until Carlisle was down injured to fire back. I still don't think it's a good look at all. However having thought about it, who really gives a ****. Whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. All started when Murphy sledged Carlisle about taking cocaine and he fired back. After the melee Saints players saw how agitated he was and then targeted him to throw him off his game. Well done Saints, I support that. If it had been the other way around I would to. Stand up for your teammates in all situations and if an opportunity presents itself to throw the opposition teams best player/captain off his game then by all means go for it, as unsavoury as it was.
Had a good laugh at some of the Carlton supporters though and how triggered they all are. Saying that St. Kilda posters on here have 'shown their true colours' was a personal favourite. Some of the stuff I've read from their posters is disgusting so the same could be said to them, although I guess that was already pretty well known.
Looking forward to a Paul Roos led media flogging this all week until the AFL has to step in and hand down punishments and make the game look softer than it already is.
And still it mostly relates to the person, not their sister, wive, mother or other innocent party that cannot defend themselves. The overwhelming majority of sledging is just purile, crass stuff said to try and put somebody off their game. Nothing wrong with a banter, knock the top off a few froffries, lay into Murph's missus
Bit of cheekiness feat Jakey the rascal
