Maric or Hampson?

So the question that needs to be asked is - Which ruckman would you prefer we pick up from these 2?

I know we would all love Zac Clarke but I think we are a better chance at winning the flag next year than we are at getting him and Mitch Clark has nominated Freo as his chosen club and is demanding a huge salary which will probably rule us out.

So which of these 2 ready to go and realistic ruck options would you prefer? For me its Hampson as he just seems the better player with his athleticism and leap and Maric just seems like an average player at best, But knowing how Richmond always seem content with mediocrity we will probably end up trading for Maric.

I didn't include a stick with what we got option because that is just silly talk especially after what we witnessed this year, Also don't just vote for who you think we can get the cheapest either because face it if you pay peanuts you get monkeys and we have already had our share of monkeys at the RFC in the past 5 or so years.

Can some on provide a figure?? I would go for the cheapest as both are stop gap in truth but if either cost anything like as the age suggests with Maric stick with the status quo.

The ruck doesn't bother me over the next few years as we still are in development and we are looking for someone long term really!!

If we get Tom Nicholls with Maric, Nicholls developing the whole year in the 2's, Maric playing firsts and giving reasonable service, then Maric

If we got Maric by himself, then i would rather Hampson who is younger, fitter, stronger, has more potential and currently is the better player

I really hope we're talking to an uncontracted Dawson Simpson. Perhaps a little one dimensional in that he seems an out and out traditional ruckman, but he's essentially a younger version of Aaron Sandilands, and is yet to re-sign with the cats. He and Vickery would be a handy 10 year ruck combo.

Agree Nicholls should be in our sights, especially if Maric is a done deal. Not sure of the merits of parting with a second round pick for a stop gap ruck solution. Not that a 2nd rounder guarantees a good player if you use it on an 18yo, I suppose.

Adelaide supporters say Maric is pretty good at centre bounces. I never really took notice back then but he could be pretty handy. Good height at 200cm too

I sort of agree with your thoughts there damo but i think hammer is the long term answer and is worth a second rounder but if we were to just get maric he must come cheaper than that.

Realistically, I'd choose Maric. Ben Nason has popped up a couple of times, the Crows also want something else, they also want Edwards which i'm not very fond of. A lot of people have bagged Edwards this year but with him bulking over the pre-season he hasn't yet managed to deal with his frame. The kid has excellent agility and endurance, he can swurve through players. I'd give the Crows, Nason and our 4th rounder for Maric. If he the Crows don't take it we can pick Maric up for nothing through the Pre-season Draft.

Not so sure that its as easy as picking him up in the PSD. Port are screaming out for ruckmen too and have had past interest in Maric.

I voted Hampson, his athleticism the huge factor, plus he relatively new to the game so should get better.

End of the day i'll support who the club thinks is right. I have a hell of a lot more confidence in the recruiting team now than 5 years ago.

I would love to try get Nicholls aswell, just as that developing depth player. GC are ripe for the picking in quality talls ATM.

Ideally Hampson - but Maric looks to be almost certain.

Maric is a cheaper option going forward and when looking at securing players like Deledio in the future - the extra dollars could prove extremely handy. Wouldn't want to give up the priority pick to get him though.
Seems a bit exy for someone who only got a handful of games this year for a struggling Crows outfit and is clearly now playing second-fiddle to Big Sauce Jacobs.

This may well be the reason we are chasing a low cost option then. maybe the club believe X can be the answer, or maybe play 2nd fiddle to maric.

Yer i think that may be the case. They need the insurance in case Derickx can't lift to the level or he turns out to be injury prone. Derickx would have played over both the other 2 if not for injury.

Agreed. If he costs the compo pick, I'd argue he's no longer a "cheap" option. That compo pick is a handy pick to keep up our sleeves. I'd imagine the Crows realise it's about as unrealistic as Nason as a straight swap option. Nason + 3rd round? 2nd rounder on it's own?

I'm hoping if we truly are trading Jackson to the Swans for their 2nd rounder, this will be ontraded to the Crows for Maric. With any luck, Downie will be available with our original 2nd rounder pick. Or perhaps this could be used to get Nicholls from GC?

Play hard ball and get Maric for free in the preseason draft... worked well with houli! I dont want to lose any draft picks even in this shallow draft. We need our third or fourth rounder to take Morris as F/S.

I would prefer Hampson but we would have to give too much. Rumor had it a couple of years ago Port offered pick 8 (ended up being Andrew Moore) for him and Carlton said no! Carlton are too hard to deal with
