This thread has been done to death on your boards but am very interested. Very much a dream team / Carlton trade period querie.

Both are young talents being eased into it very much. Which do you think will retain a spot come years end and will play first this year.

Who would you pick up in dream team bearing in mind
Meeson - 82,000
Maric - 134,000

Looking for a reserve player.

Thanks

Re: Maric V Meesen

Going into the pre-season, both players were pretty much on an even standing. Maric may have been slightly ahead, having played 8 games in 2006, but only marginally.

The injuries struck both of them. Maric injured his hip, Meesen his knee. Both missed a significant part of the season.

Maric returned to the SANFL about a month ago. He spent one or two games in the reserves, before playing two games in the seniors (where his form was disappointing). This week his team had the bye, so he played with the bottom placed reserves side in the SANFL and by all reports did a very good job.

Meesen only returned to the SANFL this week, making his return via the Norwood reserves. Limited feedback from this game indicates that he did reasonably well, kicking 2 goals.

Both players are on one-year contracts, but the club would be keen to re-sign both. The only way Carlton will be getting their hands on them is if one (or God help us, both) decide that they want out.

As for the dreamteam perspective... Griffin is starting to look a bit tired at present (he's a beanpole and 11 consecutive games are taking their toll). None of us would be surprised to see him rested, giving Maric a run, in the not too distant future. Barring injury to other players, Meesen would have to do some seriously impressive work at Norwood before being considered.

If you ask me, the race between these 2 is back to how it was supposed to be at the start of the year. Both playing SANFL and neither seems to be massively ahead of the other in regards to claiming a spot.

2nd week back. :)

The unfortunate thing though is that neither of them are tearing it up. Given they have only been back for a few weeks, and thus is understandable, but I think we all wish that they were forcing themselves upon the selectors week in week out, but unfortunately the injuries occured, and here we are.

In the SANFL reserves, John Meesen dominated in his second outing of the season for Norwood since recovering from a knee injury. He had 18 kicks, 18 hit-outs and took nine marks.

I'd suggest he will be back in the league side.

He should be but I'll be interested to see how Norwood handle this given they have won four in a row and both Dejong and Nicholas playing very well in the ruck.
Indeed an interesting situation. IMO Nicholas and Meesen should be our ruck division, which allows up to play DeJongh up forward where he plays his best footy. However that means our forward line consists of Vlatko, Cockshell, Aish and DeJongh, a little top-heavy. But throw in Wonaemirri and Burnoli, and it’s mighty hard to contain. ;)

Oh and those are some seriously impressive stats from Meesen. :thumbsu: What an improvement on the previous reserves game he played.

If he indeed does get back into the league side and produces, he's got a massive chance at AFL selection.

Griff looks like he needs a much deserved break.
