All your supposing is academic. He'll be very lucky to even play for the Eagles this year... And that was straight from the horses mouth.
:( :( :(

Just heard a report on radio where they said Stevo's future still hangs in the balance. I can't remember the exact words they used but it certainly didn't have me holding my breath waiting for him to return.

:( :( :(

Yeah but that's because the mighty Eagles' recruiting has been so good this year!!:D ;)

Then his career is well and truely over.

Crows may get one or two matches out of him if they rush him straight back but I don't expect them to do it as they didn't do it last year. Even if they did, you'd have to question just how valuable Stevens would be with no match practice. It would smack of desparation to me.

stevo must be doubly unlucky to have both cartilage and meniscus damage?

because they are the same thing .
you have one on the inner side of the knee medial meniscus
and one on the outer lateral meniscus.

Managment Plan for Carey: Don't take him on long trips unless we really have to.

What are we running here an old folks home?

Stevos knee is bone on bone and with nothing that can be done surgically he should give the game away so that we can promote a rookie.

Now that may sound harsh to some but he will only harm our forward line coming in, going out, coming in, going out.

Hes been fantastic for the Crows but its time to get over him people.

With the body of those 2 we might as well be.

I don't think either of them will stand up and play every game so both will need some serious managment.

How would promoting a rookie help us??????

None of the rookies can help our forward line problems. Parker might help us out in defence but he would offer nothing more than someone like Hentschel or Bock for that matter.

If the reports on the news are correct, then club has given Stevo 5 weeks to get his knee right or end his career. I must say I don't agree with this stance from the club.

By giving him exposure.
By rookie Im talking a young player...not necessarily someone not on our list.

Take Rutten for example, now while most of us agree that he needs more mobility/agility if he played every game that Stevo was going to play, he'll be better for it.

Well....maybe not every game coz matchups might deem it silly:rolleyes:

I thought you meant to promote a Rookie from the Rookie List.

I don't think that Stevo is going to have as big an impact on rookies as you think. He would still have earn his stripes at SANFL level. If he can get through SANFL games there is a good chance he could get through an AFL game at FF.

I doubt he will ever play again for the Crows but I wouldn't cut him off the list until we exhausted every avenue. His contract expires at the end of the year so the chances of him being around next year are extremely slim.

No, I don't think they are the same thing. The (articular) cartilage is actually superior and inferior to the joint, i.e. on the femur and the tibia, whereas the meniscus is lateral and medial. I think you might be confusing the cartilage with the synovial membrane?

But, yes, he is doubly unlucky to have both cartilage and meniscus damage.

I think the technical term is rooted!! ;)

Only happens to the good ones.

You could have run David Gallagher over with a steam-roller and not hurt him.

Stevens' return up in the air
By RICHARD EARLE
26feb04

INJURED Mark Stevens, Adelaide's Phoenix in attack, could return within five weeks – or never again.

Stevens' troublesome right knee swelled up after playing in the Crows' pre-season practice match against Glenelg at Norwood Oval on February 13.
Training services manager Trevor Jaques said Stevens, 28, had not damaged his knee further but declined to predict the centre half-forward's chances of making a contribution this season.

"An MRI (scan) showed there was no further damage to what was known before so the doctor has given him a chance to have a go in about four or five weeks time," Jaques said. "It's basically a week to settle down then he will start to do some running and will run three days a week. We will work inside on other days."

Asked if it was a concern Stevens sustained another knee injury after a sheltered pre-season Jaques said: "Certainly it is a little bit of a concern. We would have preferred that he was continuing on with what he was doing."

Stevens' condition is worse than that of dual Norm Smith Medallist Andrew McLeod, who is boosted by Synvisc injections that provide a gel-like padding in a knee virtually devoid of cartilage. Jaques said the collateral damage to Stevens' knee during his 117-match career was undermining a successful recovery.

"Stevo's problem is that he has wear and tear through so many games," Jaques said.

"There's no magical fix. We have managed it without football and now we have to manage it with football."

As much as it hurts me to say this......and trust me it does :( :( ......I would rather see Stevo hang up his boots than try and play again this season and us not see the Stevo we all know and love. I would hate to see him struggle and be in pain all the time. I think the time has come. Its sad but unfortunatley injuries have taken there toll.

If all the poor bugger can do is play in pain and struggle to be effective, he should retire - he deserves better than that after what he's given us.

It's always the good ones isn't it!! :(

Just heard John Reid on 5AA and he was a bit more positive about Stevo's knee. Apparently he trained with the main group today.

Good luck Stevo !!

That's interesting because last week on the website he was listed at three weeks away

This week he is listed at four weeks

So he is two weeks worse off yet training with the main group.

Who knows what to believe.

At best he could play every second or third game in the second half of the season.

I didn't get to hear all of the interview but JR said that Stevo's knee was progressing well and that they were quite happy at this stage.

JR also made mention of the change in injury timeframe and essentially it came about because they don't want to list him as indefinite. The 4 weeks is a more reasonable estimate given that they need to get some footy back in to him on the track first and see how he keeps pulling up after these sessions.

He also said the real test will be when he plays a game of footy. Everything is going OK now but he did say that we will keep fingers, toes and everything else crossed when Stevo runs out for a game of footy.

I don't think his knee is good enough to withstand a regular game of AFL footy. Especially considering how he lands on that knee everytime he takes a mark.

Channel 9 reports that Mark Stevens has been given the all clear to play. There is no structural damage to his knee.

Should be Ok to play in 4 weeks. My own guess is that will be in the SANFL even SANFL ressies.

Nothing from the club on this, so I'm not willing to take it as gospel yet.

However, I think the story tonight should prompt them to announce something tomorrow. Hope its good news.

Jeez thats pretty good news if it is the case:) So is that he will return to the Crows in four weeks or the SANFL????
