MARRARA STADIUM (TIO Stadium) DARWIN - DISCUSSION

Missed the AFL game last year, but got to the occasional NTFL matchday for a look. It's pretty agricultural but more than fit for purpose, perhaps if cricket were to revisit the top end series (quite possible given recent developments at the ICC with the test championship) that might be a rationale.

As far as I know we're meant to be doing a top end series against Bangladesh in a few years. Presumably Darwin and one of Cairns/Townsville

You'd only have to play one test to be considered a series. These types of matches would be used as a 'warm-up' to India tours if Bang, SA tours if Zim and Eng tours if Ireland. To get used to the conditions etc

Brillant crowd last night. A sell out, fantastic playing surface. Well done Darwin.

Full house for the AFL, over 11k for the NRL a month ago. Soild crowd for the AFLW earlier in the year and a RLWC game to come. Nice work turning out to events this year. Hopefully other sports continue to bring a game to the NT.

The whole place is a dump. I can't believe footy is being played at a 12 000 seat stadium in 30 degree heat.

No benefit to Melbourne whatsoever, it is really more of a home game for Adelaide.

How is the place a dump? It serves it purpose; local footy and the odd game of AFL. It looks like great sporting complex for a city with 150k population.

For such a small population the NT has produced fair amout of players for the AFL. Only fair they receive a game. Also Melbourne do receive a benefit. Cash.

Cant have every game under the closed roof of Docklands. Cold, heat, day, night, rain, sun, travel is all part of a season. If a team is good enough to win a flag and trip to Darwin isnt going to stop them.

I also feel Darwin is a bit of a battlefield with the NRL. Both codes are very popular up there.

Great to see a few events locked in up in Darwin.

17 Nov 2017
Rugby League World Cup Qtr Final

9 Mar 2018
AFLW Adelaide vs Fremantle

9 Jun 2018
NRL Parramatta vs North Queensland

7 Jul 2018
AFL Melbourne vs Fremantle

Throw in Supercars at Hidden Valley. AFL and AFLW in the Alice. Great line up of sports for the NT.

Australia confirmed as one team for the qtr final of the RLWC in Darwin.

Great news for Darwin.

Updated: Australia vs Samoa.
