Discussion in the suggestion box thread has turned to how we structure match threads. Current practice is:

- early in the week start a "Preview" thread to discuss match-ups, ins and outs, etc.
- on gameday, close the Preview thread and start a new "Gameday" thread
- at the conclusion of the match, close the Gameday thread and start a "Review" (after a win) or "Autopsy" (after a loss)

The case against this approach is summed up by Seeds:

Match day thread and post game thread to be merged into the same thread. Cutting off conversations 2 mins after a game has finished is really annoying. Or atleast allow the match day thread to remain open for the remainder of the day. Likewise with pre game thread and pre game match day threads.

The case for the current approach is that it neatly separates the different types of discussion we have about matches throughout the week.

Any thoughts or preferences? Can't guarantee that the poll winner will be implemented but we will take it into account in deciding how to structure threads this year.

On second thought I agree it makes sense to split them out. I just don't think you need to close the match day thread when the post game thread opens. Atleast not straight away.

I think I'm the same. Wouldn't hurt to leave it open for the rest of the day (if a night match) or an hour or two if a day game.

Interested in other views.

I feel the preview thread started following our match is good (meaning started within a few hours of our match finishing) and all these threads should be started by Mods also.

Regarding the game day one, I'd like to see it not starting until the sides literally run out. Not 5 hours before as we sometimes have... this is a purely selfish view as I have no desire to post in match threads but often still are discussing the game a couple or hours prior to it.

I reckon the autopsy can start following the final siren, and the actual game day thread to be closed 30-60 mins following the siren.

Wait, preview or review?

Sometimes we don't start the preview until a few days after the match just played. Is that not early enough?

I know you don't like posting during the game but can't you just post in the match day thread before the game?

So we'd have two going for 30-60 minutes? Why would you like that?

keeping both the preview thread and match day thread open for an extra few hours or the rest of the day to let conversations play out seems fine

to avoid confusion, could you sticky whichever of the three was created last?

I think I mean preview for the next match, sometimes it feels that they pop up instantly... especially if we have a big game we are excited about coming up.. ideally thinking about it the day after is probably the best, allows the dust to settle

Yeah it is purely a personal preference thing for me, I just like being able to discuss the game in the preview thread up until the game starts... then to be able to try ignore the match thread.

It probably makes it confusing I know, really it was just a thought to allow people to make any final points in that thread... but thinking more about it I think it will cause more caos if anything.

Couldn't disagree more. I want gameday threads up as soon as possible when it becomes game day.

What about "Meltdownof the Week" award from the Matchday thread....

Being new here could someone explain the difference between a review and autopsy thread? Or why there's a point in not just having the preview fade into the match day thread?

Autopsy tends to cover loses.. review is for wins.

Preview is the weekly thread open for game specific prior to the GD. GD generally opens a few hours prior to bounce.

In a general sense.

Go Catters

I just like the idea of a match thread reserved for just the match chatter, thus why I think the preview should run up until the bounce.

That said is purely a personal preference thing and not going to concern me really regardless of what happens
