What will be our key match ups V North?

Boomer harvey always cuts us up but so has every other good small forward over the last few years...

Harvey - Armfield, Carrazzo or Grigg. I would think Grigg would pick him up when he's on the ball and Armfield when he goes forward. Campbell and Thomas will also take one of these players. Thornton might play on a small forward and Browne might play on one too. That or Scotland might play a more defencive role which shouldn't bother him too much.

Nathan Thompson (if he plays) is the one who may provide a few headaches. With O'hAilpin out he may tie Waite up and stop his dominance floating accross half back. I think Bower is a roughie to come back in to cover Thompson or take up Waites role at half back.

Their forward line isn't all that tall appart from Thompson who is struggling a bit. This will suite us. Would expect Jamison to play an important role on Corey Jones. Their small forwards (Campbell, Thomas and Harvey) might worry us.

Their midfield is not over quick and we should beat them there in all aspects so we should get plenty of oppertunity to score.

Gibson will probably take Fev but we should try and push their defence which isn't over tall by playing Kreuzer/Cloke there which is why it would be good to play Hampson again.

McIntosh and Hale will probably push forward which might stretch us a bit, may have to play Bower to take a big man there and/or free up Waite or continue to play the 3 ruckmen so one can play as a defender on their ruckman if he goes forward.

I agree we have to get more game time and experience into Hammo. The thing I loved the most about last week was Krooz in the forward half. We play Hammo, Cloke and Krooz with Krooz resting in the forward half and Hammo and Cloke doing most of the ruck. Betts back is going to be a big inclusion, I think last week we just missed his polish a little with the finishing.

While quick small forwards tend to kill us, let's not forget that Adelaide stole a game that we should have won with their ruckmen pushing forward and kicking goals.

If McIntosh comes back in to combine with Hale and Petrie we'll need all of Cloke Krueze and Hammo in the side and they will have to be accountable to whichever of North's ruckmen push forward as our KP defenders are do not have the size to hold them.

Harvey and Corey Jones are the 2 boys that usually cut us up when we play North Melbourne. Very hard to get a good matchup on Harvey, especially since he's in such good form at the minute.

I think a combination of Gibbs and Carrazzo might work well. Both a proven record running with players, and Carrazzo seems to go well on the smaller type forwards. And, both can go back should they need to.

Jones is the other one that always seems to bob up and kick a few against us. Thornton might be the ideal matchup for him. Jones isn't that big, and whilst he is ok at ground level, Thornton should be ok to go with him.

The other matchups we need to get right is the small forward combo in Campbell and Thomas. I would give Grigg and Armfield the job here. Therefore:

Carrazzo/Gibbs - Harvey
Thornton - Jones
Grigg - Thomas
Armfield - Campbell

North's other tall forwards can be covered by Waite and Jamison.

^^yeh looking back at some past stats, harvey always leads the way for them, has gotten 3 votes the last 2 games against us so controlling him will be crucial.
maybe ratts should bring back bentick, always seems to have good games against the roos

i think Bentick coming in would be a bad option

Kangaroos are deceptively quick and probably would run around AB easily and would probably use this to there advantage

my only change for this week is to bring in Eddie if fit

HBF is pretty spot on, as for the Bentick expirement, that seems to have failed.

I'm not sure if Betts will be back, I think it would be a bad idea to drop Hampson, and dropping a small defender will also be a bad idea...

Wells will do the damage, and so far no one has even named him. He's been there best player over the last few weeks, even though Boomer will most likely get the votes.

Gibbs should play on Harvey, around the centre. If gibbs can get forward and kick 2-3 it will nullify any impact boomer will have on the game. The roos are all offensive midfielders. if we try play a defensive game we will lose. Best way to play is use our mids to attack as well. I believe we are a fitter side and can run out 4 1/4s better than the roos, who seem to go down gears for 1/2 a game.

While we may find more run than most other teams can muster up in fourth quarters, our biggest weakness for a number of years has been our inability to put together 4 quarter efforts...

I'd go

Armfield - Thomas
Browne - Campbell
Gibbs - Harvey

Need our two best small defensive players on the two North goal sneaks. Imo, Browne and Armfield are it.

I've liked how they've let Carrazzo run out a bit more and allowed him to get into the midfield. And i think Grigg should be used as an attacking option off half back.

Jamison will play on the most potentially damaging forward. If Thompson plays then Jamo will play on him, and either Thornton/Bower (if fit) to Jones.

Otherwise Jamo will get Jones if Thompson doesnt play.

need to put a hard tag on wells

its no coincidence that nth have been winning since his return to form back from injury

ive said this before but if wells gets the ball 25 times carlton lose

These will be the matchups

Armfield on Campbell
Carazzo on Thomas
Bower on Petrie
Waite on Leigh Brown
Jamison on Corey Jones
Thornton on Hale

and id think that firrito would go to fev and lachlan hansen may get the job on brad fisher

Might be the way to go actually. North Melbourne have gone with a pretty small team, with Thompson not coming after an ankle injury, and McIntosh not being named.

Bugger the match ups! We have a very very good running midfield group. If you combine Judd, Stevens, Simpson, Gibbs, Carrazzo, Betts, Browne, Armfield, Grigg, Murphy, Russell, Scotland & Walker I would think they will be trying to match up on us. Yep, we are short on very tall backman and a quality CHF and that maybe the difference in us winning or losing. But I still think we should take the game on and see how we go at out sccoring them. They are generally not a high scoring team, although they do have their days when they can!
They like the 'Dome" and so do we. Let's see what the've got?

Russell. :thumbsu: troybond's clacker.

Good to see Bower back when he beat Jones last year.

No to Bentick.

I can't see Cloke getting dropped, so Wiggins or Armfield will be under pressure if Betts passes the fitness test.
I can't see Bower playing so quickly after being out for so long injured. I see Wiggins, Armfield, Cloke & Betts as the Interchange crew.

Thorton - Hale or Petrie (whichever one is playing forward)
Jamison - Jones
Waite - loose man in defence (will block hale or petrie to help out thorton) If Leigh Brown is selected which is unlikely will go to Leigh Brown.
Grigg - Grant
Armfield - Thomas
Browne - Cambell
Gibbs - Harvey

They will tag
Rawlings - Judd
Harris - Murphy

Stevens - Simpson will probably match up

Betts will come in for Saddington. Bower will have another run in the two's.

If betts dosent come up there will be no change to the side Saddington in will allow waite to play loose man in defence and spend some time up forward.

I tend to agree with all other than IMO Cambell is a bit quicker than Thomas and would therefore get Dangles who is a bit quicker than Browne.
