Teams who are thereabouts but need decent mids should be all over this.

Richmond could probably offer up $1.2 million over 3 years and pay a 4th rounder as a Crows salary dump to get him across. He's a former All Australian in his prime. His impact is debatable but this is clearly an issue that the Crows coach has specifically with him just like the Lyons/Dew situation.

We don’t need the cap relief. We’d be offering to pay his entire 2023 salary to sweeten our trade value.

No one is offering a 2nd for him.
So no one who's still in a premiership window, with a mid to late 2nd, with a lack of inside mids (or has players departing) or who has a tight salary cap, would offer up that pick for what is essentially a free player next year?

Did you think about that response or was it essentially a nuffie brain fart?

Not a chance. Would be delisted if he was out of contract. You want a 2nd round pick for a bloke that was shopped last year, been told he's not part of future plans, has been dropped multiple times and has effectively been 'blacklisted' by the club?

4th round is more likely than a 2nd is.

Name a side in the window that lacks inside mids

Name a side in the window that lacks inside mids

Richmond would be the first team that actually comes to mind. Currently statistically bottom in the AFL for clearances and tackles, 4th from bottom for contested possessions.

Do you think Matt Crouch will be there difference maker there? There's some ground to make up

Carlton were 13th last year, Freo were 11th, what's your point?

At a quick glance they've had a decent last few weeks with a win against the Blues, narrow loss to Geelong and draw with Freo.

Ranked 1st in comp for Inside 50's, 2nd in comp for total points scored.

Offensively they look great, so yeah it looks as if their major issues at the moment is tying the ball up in the contest or getting it to outside players.

Would Crouch be the missing piece, who knows? Maybe along with another player in the offseason it could be

Sure but now your argument has pivoted from depth mid to key piece of a midfield restructure.

I'm not saying richmond aren't capable of bouncing back, likely next year, but I am saying that they wouldn't be basing their new structure on a mid who just pushed out the door while contracted at a bottom 4 side

Some guys need a fresh start
If you got him for a late second he would be worth it.
More runs on the board then brodie yeo just because he can’t get a game for a btm 4 team doesn’t mean he can’t play football look at lyons and Brodie couldn’t get a game for the suns yet can play important rolls in a top 8 teams.

Maybe so. His value will sit somewhere from that high water mark you mention to a late 3rd imo. Just will depend if a club wants a pure inside ball winning mid to compliment good outside mids already at the club. Personally, I wish him all the best as he has been a very strong contributor to our club for a long time now and its only because we are moving in another direction and bringing through youth in our rebuild he is on the outer. If he finds some success at another club then good luck to him.

Funnily enough, the side i think he could fit well at is Gold Coast. They have real quality outside mids in noah anderson and touk miller and even rowell is good on the outside. A pure ball winner on the inside feeding it out to them might appeal at at a low enough cost
You’re kidding, we are trying to offload our inside mids.
We got rid of Brodie, next will be Fiorini.
You only need one accumulator inside mid in the middle these days it’s all about speed.

A bottom four team is basically booting him out the door.

Obviously he isn't rated very highly at a 'poor' team, so what premiership-winning magic skills would he bring to a 'good' team that's worth coughing up a decent pick for?

If a 'good' team could get him for a bargain basement pick as a sort of backup/insurance, sure. But I can't fathom spending a 2nd on him when even his existing club seemingly doesn't rate him.

He contracted for next year on what is likely a modest salary, and Nicks has already publicly stated Crows have not had a convo with him about not extending him past his contract.

Poor team, sure, but we are flush for 'good' inside mids. He's an excellent inside accumulating mid, albeit pretty one-dimensional, and lacks the same defensive quality of Laird/Keays. For us having Laird/Keays/Crouch all on the inside is not good for us and the balance we're trying to create between experience and giving developing players game time.

I'm really not sure how to explain it in any simpler terms for you.

Okay.....but that's a "you" problem.

It's not any other club's job to pay over for a player that you are actively looking to get rid of, just to help you solve your own team balance issues.

He's contracted, and Nicks has already publicly stated no conversation has taken place with Crouch about his future. It's likely his management have put the issue out there because he does want to go a get game time elsewhere.

Where did I say he was a key piece of a midfield restructure? For a team who is currently lacking an inside accumulating mid he would be a decent pick up, particularly if Crows cover his salary, and particularly if the team lacking that type of player is attempting to keep their window open.

I think you're inflating the issue if you think adding one midfielder into a team is going to cause some monumental rebuild of the midfield group.

So you would consider a mid-late 2nd for Matt Crouch, with his entire salary covered next year, is 'overs'?

Do you honestly think a club with potential cap issues, still in the window, with a lack of inside mids, would not pay a mid-late 2nd?

I think you'll find a few clubs come knocking, and i'm happy to bookmark it.

You didn't say he was part of a midfield restructure. You said he'd be handy depth for a contending team then listed a side that is 50/50 to make the 8 for the second year in a row and staring at a number of retirements of key players in the midfield.

The key here is that overpayment comes from contending teams, but I can't think of a current contender that would overpay.

And also, wasn't he told his contract wouldn't be renewed? If so Nick's has ended his crows career. His current contract status is irrelevant if he's a professional SANFL player going forward

When did I say he'd be 'handy depth'? ONCE AGAIN, If he was going anywhere it would be to a team with a lack of inside mids, so you'd say starting 22. Why would he leave one team he's not getting a game with to go to another with the same situation?

And no, he wasn't told his contract wouldn't be renewed. Nicks came out and categorically denied the Channel 9 news segment which made the allegation. Nicks said no such conversation has taken place with Crouch at all.

Richmond have beaten Pies, Carlton, Brisbane and lost by less than a goal to Geelong, Swans and draw with Freo. Lowest in the league for tackles and clearances, 4th from bottom for contested possessions.

I see Richmond finish 7th. Careful what you wish for

Was not aware of the denial from Nicks. Sounds like he's at the crows going forward then
