So did you not hear the explanation of the whole conversation? It has zero to do with his emotions.

I don't think anyone links the Bulldogs to racism now on the basis of one player's comments in the past.

But what he said wasnt racist... hes being burned at the stake for a "quote" in a paper. Surely anyone with half a brain knows these quotes have to be taken in context to get any meaning out of it?
And yet the media and an entire organisation (AFL) are willing to destroy a mans career over it

What a sad reflection on Caroline Wilson and Andrew Demetriou. Rendell comes across as an honest and passionate bloke who admitted to making a silly comment during a discussion about actually doing something to improve indigenous players' prospects in AFL. Caroline Wilson comes across as a horribly negative and joyless person that is prepared to attack a decent man for her own benefit. And Demetriou? I wish he was a politician so we could vote him out.

I wouldn't judge Mifsud harshly - sounds like Demetriou backed him into a corner.

Maybe some others can see where we were coming from 5 or so years ago (and since) when we said she reports rumour, half truth and lies as fact when reporting on a our club in particular.

Her modus operandi is now so glaringly obvious that she cannot continue to be taken seriously on any subject.

I don't think Rendell is an overt racist.

But like most Australians he has deeply ingrained racist thought patterns.

What he said was ridiculous.

It is untenable to have an AFL head recruiter who has said, on the record "I will only draft kids with 1 white parent". It is just a stupid thing to think, let alone say.

I feel a bit sorry for Rendall who will think he's been harshly treated, but i also felt a bit sorry for Damian Monkhouse.

But attitudes need to be changed out there.

sounded like he genuinely wanted to help fix the attrition rate of aboriginal draftees in the AFL.. unfortunately used the one white parent example as an extreme direction teams may move to ensure aboriginal kids stay in the system. his idea of helping to transition 30x top aboriginal U16 kids by moving them down to melbourne is a good one. he's been fixed up nicely.

You know this was my gut feel from the start.


I haven't seen the Rendall interview but I suspected as has been suggested he was actually trying to help the indigenous by suggesting a threatening scenario regarding the systematic processes driving the game sto put a rocket up the AFL HQ prevurbial!!! In other words it sounds like the point of the line was a constructive attempt to wake up otherwise these poor unfortunate kids may have it harder to get ahead, because he above most it seems has the indigenuous peoplem, as one trying to capture and nuture and utilise their talent, most at heart!!!


I am thinking can Rendall go the defamation route against AFL HQ???


Some have suggested he and some others that speak the truth have been targeted for a while.


In any case this is further support of communist AFL HQ ruling the roost in 1984 yes speak fashion.

What I don't get is why Adelaide let Rendall resign???

Is the ex-Hawthorn president the only person with balls in defiance to AFL HQ??

I have said it before the competition is getting so owned from what was once the peoples game in the past it is disgraceful!!!


The other thing it highlights to me is the lack of intelligence of some involved in the AFL. Some have NFI!!!

I am buying Rendall, AFL HQ hasn't sold me diddly!!!

When Rendell spoke of being mortified if any Aborigine he had dealt with in the past now considered him racist I believed him.

IMO that was not a polished performance, a scripted performance, it was a passionate defence by a man who had made a stupid throwaway comment in the context of attempting to address an issue.

After watching him tonight I do not believe he is a racist, rather I believe, like others have said, he was hung out to dry by the AFL and indeed by the Adelaide football club.

Then let him explain it in a media conference? like he did tonight. If its such bad "press" why wasnt sherman from the bulldogs suspended by the afl (not saying he should have been). The AFL have used this as a stunt to make themselves look good.
"You see that person who allegedly made a racist comment. look what we have done to him, now we look amazing for taking a stance against racism"

There is no logical reason for them not to let this misunderstanding be worked out with a media conference.

Incredibly raw, honest television - and all of us who saw it are left in no doubt to Rendall's intentions or context.

Unfortunately when it's played on the news as a 10 second grab (and not in it's context) they will have even more ammunition.

Off the cuff, I think many Aboriginal kids would hate being away from their families, making it potentially even worse. And what if they had to move from NT to Melbourne to Perth when drafted, that would be shit.

Haven't seen the interview yet due to the time difference though.

He didn't say that. He said that if the AFL don't act now then it might get to a point where AFL clubs might only draft kids with one white parent. He subsequently admitted that it was the wrong way to make his point.

This is a massive beat up and unfortunately it's been at Matt Rendell's expense.

What aggravates me is the spin from the AFL on how he was sacked.
On one hand we have them saying he was told to retract his comment which he would not according to the AF.

Rendall has a much different version that he was told to fall on his sword.
Rendall is NO racist and this is a slur on his name. Things can and are taken out of context.

Why did they wait 2 months to bring it up at an executive meeting?
