There is a bit of confusion I think with the SMH link.

It is primarily about Ahmed (Aus Post, NAB), but there is a reference to his brother Ali at the bottom of the page.

It is Ali who is employed by the AFL and was reportedly the 3rd person who joined the Rendell/Mifsud meeting.

Jeebus Malifice. Don't you realise that you are exactly the sort of politically-correct knee jerk reactionary that gives rise to good people like Rendell being thrown under the bus for political expediency.

Seriously though, Ive never supported his sacking (still dont) nor do I support denying the man natural justice or the chance to put his side of the story across.

His comment re white parentage was rubbish (even accepting context) and he admits as much.

Because the other comments from Hird and Roos, as well as the Jurrah incident hadn't happened in January, therefore the morality police weren't out inf force, so there was no publicity for Mifsud and Fahour to gain from it.

Classic media strategy. Hide Mifsud, let Fahour go, Andy D will say he doesn't want to revisit it and stop talking.

Fahour keeps the momentum going against Rendell, the real story with Mifsud doesn't get out.

Then in two or three weeks time, a nice personal one-on-one print article will appear about Mifsud, talking about how hard it is to work in the AFL and of his desire to help Aboriginal kids. He'll say the whole Rendell 'episode' was hard but we just have to move on. For the kids.

So, let me get this straight.

Rendell uses an opportunity in a meeting with Mifsud to push an idea of getting Aboriginal kids involved in schools and competitions that would make it easier for them to adjust to the AFL. He talk about the attrition rate of full blooded Aboriginals coming from tribal areas. He say talents scout won't be drafting them pretty soon unless they have one white parent because of adjustment probs and high attrition rates.

It may have been a throwaway line, or he may have been half serious to get Mifsud's attention to do something about it. Either way, its cultural, not racist.

Biggest mistake Rendell made last night was trying to make an attempt at an apology at Caro's request.

Exchange should have gone like this:

Caro: "Would you like to make an apology"

Rendell: "For what?"

Caro: "You know. For what you said: `unless they have a white parent, we are not going to draft an Aboriginal player and our club would not be alone in that' "

Rendell: "Did you listen to a word I just said over the past 10 minutes?"
