Not hefty at all. Seemed that way when it was first inked but the main problem we had with it was the length. Now 400k is pretty standard and there isn't a ruckman that you could recruit that would be that much cheaper bar an unproven kid like downie. Even witts will be asking 400k and no one has seen him lead a ruck unit for any substantial time yet. And the length left on Lobbes contract is perfect for any team that wants to bring him on.

**** me. You have no idea on this one. Minson and maric will both be lucky to be on afl lists next season and will only be so as insurance for injury and as a ruck teacher to the young rucks. As bad as Lobbes form was in this injury stalled season his 8 games he almost got as many hitouts as Minson has over the last 2 seasons in his 12 games. For another comparison minsons best form came from the age of approx 27/28/29. Lobbe is 27 now. Minson is 31.

Going to be 28 next year and out of form big time.
Giles level of value when he left Essendon which was a third round upgrade. Giles was the same age but is a better player.
 
Lobbe was worth 20% of nothing. He is worthless. He is contracted, on good coin, out of form and getting older.

I can't see anyone even giving up a 6th rounder for him. I think Port are stuck with him unless they pay his contract or a reasonable portion of it. Even then, he is a reserves player who is 28 next year. Not sure any team would be keen.

There is unlikely anyway out of this for Port.

On what logic are you basing your call that Giles was a better player? How many seasons has he lead a ruck unit? What was his season like at essendon before his move to west coast? Stupid call based on emotion rather than logic

I'm going to address everything you have wrong here

A) yes he is contracted. Why would that be a negative ? The years left is the perfect amount for any team trading him in. Anyone trading a ruck in is going to be offering them 3-4 years anyway.

B) good coin? On 400k. At the time we didn't like the length of the contract , the coin wasn't bad , but now 400 k wouldn't be shit all for a ruckman. Starting listing rucks on less than 400k who have and can lead a teams ruck unit? Teams trading in witts this off season will likely be offering him 400-450k over 4 years.

Lobbes contract is a positive to any team trading him in, not a negative.

C) out of form he still averaged close to 30 HO a game in a season interrupted by injury. Rucks prime years are usually the years from 27-29 maybe 30 then you go downhill from there. He is just about the start of when most rucks prime years are. His contract runs out at the perfect time too just before he turns 31.
 
The game has changed with less boundary line throw lines and teams holding onto the pill more. Ruckmen value has decreased. Lobb is 28 with injuries and doesn't do anything around the ground and can't play forward for his life.

Third round pick would be about right.
 
People are nuts to think lobbe won't be sought after this off season

A capable first 22 player has some one brought in his position , then has some injuries which affect his form and may be available on the trade table? Right when his value is at it's lowest? That's moneyball trading right there. The catch is the flip side is teams won't be offering the high pick like last year.

But there is an extensive history of rucks being traded for picks around the 20-35 mark. Long long history. Rucks who could play, rucks who couldn't play, rucks who might be able to play. All sorts. We know for a fact teams this year will be interested in rucks , and it is hardly inconceivable that lobbe could fetch a pick under 40.

Go have a look at Giles form for GWS in the first couple of years. Better than anything Lobbe has done.
Secondly look at his game against Adelaide in a final, again, better than Lobbe has played this year.
The only difference between the two is that Lobbe is contracted on way bigger money that some team is going to have to carry for a reserves ruckman.
And your talking about his form this year is laughable. He couldnt get a run in a side that didnt have a ruckman. You prefered to use an undersized backman than play him. And you think someone is going to give you anything of value for him?
There is a reason your club doesnt want him.

You continue to post stuff that simply isn't true and pass it off as fact.


1. If Giles was such the gun ruck you think he was for gws why has he been a journeyman? Has been on the bench at two clubs since and to say otherwise is to rewrite history to serve your purpose.

2. Saying that Giles best form at gws was better than Lobbes best form for port is wrong. Complete revisionist bullshit just to support your wrong argument

3. Stats wise Giles best form didn't match up against Lobbes worst form.

4. Lobbe is not on some inflated contract. Stop rewriting reality to suit your argument. 400k is no different to what any ruck recruited next season will get paid bar someone young and untried like downie or maybe Nankervis. Witts, longer ? Which lead proven ruck will be traded and signed for substantially less than 400k?

5. Saying lobbe couldn't get a run in a side without a ruckman is yet again , revisionist bullshit. He had an injury interupted season and struggled to get back to form before going out for the year. On another note , that undersized backman (the same height as Ryder and Jenkins and a cm or 2 shorter than Giles) you refer to playing ruck for port played extensive amount of ruck as a junior , and managed to pants a couple of real good rucks during the year.

6. What the **** does Giles making a laughing stock of Jacobs in a final in 2016 have to do with Giles trade value in 2015 being comparable to Lobbes?

If anything your argument must be saying is Giles value has possibly since increased , or Giles was undervalued in his trade , or Jacobs is shit (which I don't think he is). It has no relevance to our debate when you are arguing Giles got traded for pick X in 2015 ergo lobbe is worth pick Y.

7. And again, you make a statement on what port wants. something you do constantly on this board. You must have the inside word with some big people at port because you are always making definitive statements like 'port don't want him'. Based on what ? The fact the dogs tried to trade for him last year? The fact port supporters on this forum want to trade him out for an area of need and play Ryder first ruck? None of that means port are gonna discard him or throw him away for a nothing pick no matter how happy that would make you.

I'm no Lobbe fan, but considering that he singlehandedly carried our ruck division for an entire season two years ago in a year that we made a prelim, this is quite clearly bullshit.

Not sure why I'm bothering to argue with you though, based on some of your posts on this board you probably think Chad Wingard is worth a late 2nd.

Correction, pure tap ruckman's value has decreased. Those who can play as a midfielder or forward have remained constant to say the very least. Objectively speaking, players like Grundy are the future model of rucks. Not only can he handle ruck contests, he can also link up through the middle, spreads to the wing for a mark, and even crumb a goal from the forward pocket. There's another reason that Witts was clearly kept out of the side this year apart from being very, very mediocre.

Ruckman who can play another position are gold, totally agree i.e. Lobb. But Lobbe can't play forward.
