Matthew Pavlich

Connor Blakely, Ed Langdon, Lachie Weller, Alex Pearce and Brady Grey all made their debuts in 2015 - so to say that prior to this year that no one got a game is totally incorrect.

what a load of spin, outside of pearce no one got a decent chance last year

the last game of the year, saw those players get their only real chance, when you rested half your best 22

weller was given less than 2 qtrs over 2 games and langdon faired not much better in his one game from memory

Definitely unfairly IMHO

344 Games
680 Goals
6 x All Australian (as both a forward and defender)
6 x Fremantle Best and Fairest
8 x Fremantle Leading Goal Kicker
2 x Coleman Medalist Runner up.

A legend of the game

Typical Freo clutching at straws....

Where is the
1 x captain of losing Grand final side?

Pav is providing team leadership, taking the best defender + imparting tricks of the forwards trade to the anklebiters.

Take Pav away, ALOT less team leadership ( all Freos "leaders" are injured, except up and coming Neale ), Tabs gets best defender + no one imparts any little tricks of forward work.

Look, Freo have a lot of cracks to repair and worries to be sorted, Pav is more than doing his job this season.

Aim your darts at Ballas, Clarke, Suban , Daniel Pearce etc ..............

Pav is the rock holding the team together, can't you see that leadership is what Freo needs at the moment !!!.

what an indictment on freo's leadership depth if they're solely reliant on one player to provide leadership

freo need to start replenishing their leadership stocks as much as they need to with their KPP stocks

According to you and your impeccable source, Weller was on his way to the saints

Like you guys and Goddard

they were also in teams that were going different directions.

pav is an out and out champion and will remain that way. pure and simple really. surprised there's even a debate about it. if freo had anyone, anyone at all who was a decent key forward, pav probably wouldn't be running around. but they don't. so he is.

o_O

yeh just like you were right about how great freo's list management and recruitment was and how they wouldnt fall off the edge like the saints. just like how freo didnt need to manage their senior players last year and find more avenues to goal because they were good enough to go the whole way

which one has hurt freo more, me being wrong on weller or you with your head in the sand on every issue your club has faced...

How many players are freo gona get rid of at the end of the year? my guess is about 12

THEY are two champions of the modern era finishing their esteemed careers in completely different styles.

When St Kilda and Fremantle have faced each other over recent years, fans have salivated over the prospect of Nick Riewoldt and Matthew Pavlich figuratively going head-to-head at opposite ends of the field.

When the two teams clashed at Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Pavlich was manned up by Sam Fisher at one end. Riewoldt, however, was on a wing next to Danyle Pearce.

What transpired over the next two hours showcased two AFL superstars heading in totally different directions.

Riewoldt was at his brilliant, workmanlike best against the Dockers, booting 2.2 from 24 disposals and 11 marks to lead his side to a 34-point win. Just over 61 per cent of those possessions were won in the defensive half.

Pavlich, however, struggled, finishing with just eight disposals, one mark and a goal in a performance that further fuelled suggestions he shouldn’t have played on this season.

Even before 2013 Riewoldt had a much better career than Pavlich. The comparison never made much sense to me. You see people compare Brown, Riewoldt, Tredrae and Pavlich all the time yet Riewoldt to me stands out from the rest.

i dont think it will be that large... the drafts dont bat deep enough to do that and freo just are no good at attracting talent from other clubs

Hopefully those players are Pavlich, Sandilands, Johnson, Ibbotson, Walters, D. Pearce, Mundy, Fyfe, Bennell, Neale, Barlow & Weller.

Rest him for away games

Play him at home

It's not going to make much difference now anyway, they can't make finals so for him to retire mid-season won't make a skerrick of difference for the team. May as well keep membership morale up by making sure he plays well at home, send him out on a good note

Imo he should have retired in 2014, and blooded a young-un while they were a bit up and about last year

Makes no difference to Freo's season if he plays on or not, which is why it will be left to him to make the call. 350th game at home gives the fans something to look forward too and would be a nice way to end it.

I don't think the leadership reasoning is quite accurate, personally between Fyfe, Mundy, Sandilands, Walters, Johnson, we were quite strong for on-field leadership (can't really comment off-field). Can't really be helped that 4 of those 5 haven't been able to get on the park though.

I think a lot of players have stepped it up massively effort wise, we're just so badly outclassed all over the field currently.

Are you serious? 4 of our 6 leadership group members are on the sideline and you think Pav should also retire. He's the best leader we have onfield currently bar Walters and Neale. You know nothing about our club which is amazing considering you spend every second of every day talking about us.

One thing that has been really impressing me this year has been Lachie Neale stepping up and taking charge in the midfield. You can see him at most stoppages pointing and directing and yelling.

Lol Pavs got like 2 years on Roo.

Can't believe this thread is still going.

Pav was asked to play on. The 'selfish' thing to do was to actually retire after last year's prelim, and not a single AFL supporter would criticise him for doing so. He bleeds purple through and through and has unselfishly carried on (probably for peanuts) for the sake of the club.

I wish my club had a Pav.
