He went a long way in developing Reid and N Brown and probably gave them a little more belief to play in the 2010 GF when Presti did not.

Well with Ben Hart and Rocca doing the 2 Defensive Coaching Spots there was no Room for Max.

Watters would of helped Saints get Max Back

Rocca as defensive coach! Ohh woe are we! Surely Hudghton would have been a more logical choice or even Lockyer. What is Tarks' role next year?

I initially thought the same as you when I found out about Rocca, but he's not the defensive coach, he's working with player development in defence. When you think about it it's a good idea. He was a big key forward who could take contested grabs and he played on all the top defenders. He'll basically teach defenders how to play while being the forward in training drills. If they can beat Rocca in one on one drills and learn how to get around big opponents it'll help them out.

Thanks for your time at the Pies Max :D

I guess as an outsider, It's difficult to know what contribution each of the asistant coaches had in the overall scheme of things.

But given we won a flag with Max there, given the defence was a huge part of it, and given we were within one point of not winning a flag, Max's contribution was likely to have been pivotal.

I wish him well and thank him for his time with the Pies.

Wasn't it Watters who was our defensive coach at the time? Reid talked him up a fair bit after 2010.

Max did it Part Time with Watters

Ben Hart 100 x > Max Hudghton.:thumbsu:

Not sure that was the decision though...

Ben Hart was appointed a defensive assistant coach. Hudgton was never in this role. He was the equivalent of what Rocca is filling. So the question should be, is Hugdton better than Rocca as a defensive development coach? I would have thought he would be (but like all on here, I have no idea as to how goo Max or Rocca are as defensive development coaches).

VFL coach, although I expect he will also have a role in player development under Craig McRae.

He is a development coach under Craig McCrae, first and foremost - The development coaches will act as line coaches for the VFL team under Tarkyn Lockyer on matchday, though.
