Looked to have a very poor attitude tonight and doesn’t put in the effort to get up the ground and get involved when things aren’t falling in his lap. Seemed like it took him until the third qtr tonight to decide to leave the 50m arc.

Needs to find a way to impact games when he’s not kicking goals too.

When things aren’t going his way he can be a bit of a Debbie downer. I remember in our large victory over the Saints last year he was invisible.

Sums up the saints team.
I went to the game last night between Dogs and Hawks. Naughton didn’t have an amazing game but still managed three goals.

When he’s not directly getting involved and not getting near the ball he runs and chases. Puts pressure on. He nearly chased down CJ in the first quarter. I see none of that with Max. If he were ten cms shorter he wouldn’t even be on a list IMO.

King's run of 23 straight games with a goal comes to an end

He'll be back. Very soon I'd guess

21yo is very young to be a formerly elite player isn’t it PJays? It seems Max arrived, now he has departed. 😁

To be fair I wouldn’t read much into the last two games. I fully expect improvement from the Saints and King in the remainder of the season. But barring his big mismatch and uncommonly good conversion against the Crows, you would have to say big Maxy has floundered since you declared his arrival at elite level. Beside that Crows mismatch, 13 goals and 1 assist in the other 8 of those games. Some tougher assignments in there, wet at times, lack of supply at others, bit more opposition focus. But that is AFL for a key forward and it is when he can overcome these types of things and produce elite level performance, then I think we can say he has arrived at elite.

Thread has gone a bit dead. Told you guys St Kilda is what is stopping King from becoming a Riewoldt/ Hawkins type player. If I was him I’d go to the Suns with his brother, more chance of a flag.

He played a 17 game stretch with 50 goals and 52 contested marks. (Round 17 last year to round 11 this year).

In that 17 game stretch he kicked a goal every single game including 2 bags of 6. 6 out of 17 games with 4 goals or more. 9 out of 17 games with 3 goals or more. 14 out of 17 games with 2 goals or more.

This year St Kilda is 8 wins, 6 losses. He averages 1.3 goals in losses. In wins he averages 3.4 goals- and he's been the main match winner, or one of the key 2 or 3 players in several St Kilda wins. Shows you his value.

In the mid-season All Australian teams in various media outlets recently, he made a few teams and was mentioned as a close omission in the rest. The consensus was that his first 11 games of 2022 placed him in the top 3 or 4 big forwards alongside Tom Lynch, Curnow etc.

Unquestionably that 17 game stretch was an elite 17 games.

It's more accurate to say he's arrived and is currently out of form, rather than suggesting he's yet to arrive.

Well let’s see. If he doesn’t put a 2022 season together that averages elite, then I think we can all agree he hasn’t arrived at elite. At present his 2022 season shows him at =11th overall for goal average per game and =10th amongst key forwards. This, whilst being very respectable, and excellent for a 21yo, is not elite.

When you look at goals + goal assists, the 2022 ladder looks something like this:

Goals + Goal Assists average per match

3.9 J Cameron
3.7 Hawkins, Greene
3.6 Walker
3.5 Curnow Lynch Lewis
3.4 Naughton
3.2 Joseph Daniher
3.1 Lance Franklin
3.0 Harold McKay, "two thousand millimetre" Peter Wright
2.9 Bayley “scavenger” Fritsch

2.8 Maxwell King, Chuck Cameron, Shai “Showboat” Bolton AKA The Boltonator 😍
2.7 Tyson Stengle, Lucas Breust, Izaak Rankine
2.6 Matthew Taberner, Brody Mihocek
2.5 Todd Marshall, Mabior Cholman, Thomas McDonald
2.4 Joshua Kennedy, Riewoldt, “Police Dog” Hogan, McAdam, Jack campaignerston
2.3 Z Bailey Heeney, Oliver Henry, Wingard

So he sits =14th there. Probably 12th amongst key forwards depending if you consider goal beggar and Joseph the goose specialist Bayley Fritsch as a key forward or not. I don’t. So 12th and outside the top 10. Max “minimum” King has slipped below the average main tall forward target for an AFL team. Given there are two teams in total malfunction….

Not. Exactly. Elite. PJays. 😁

And in 10 days time “Max” will be a big 22yo PJays, he won’t be a little 21yo any more. No more excuses. Amongst prominent young key forwards Max is sitting 3rd of 3.

Goals + Goal Assists 2022:

3.5. 23yo Mitchell Lewis.
3.4 22yo Aaron Naughton
2.8 about to be 22yo Max “No more excuses” King

I'm telling you boys. If he's 10cms shorter he isn't on a list.

Doesn't do anything other than mark and kick goals, which is fine if you're a forward in the 80s and 90s but he needs to do more.

I don't agree

His back half of 2021 was elite (at least the last 6 weeks) and his first half of 2022 was elite. I've already established that.

If he has a crap back half of 2022, why would you ignore the back half of 2021?

Jeremy Cameron went through a stretch in 2014 where he kicked 13 goals in 8 weeks. In 2020 he kicked 24 in the whole season! 17 games. Shortened games, but still.

It's called being out of form.

17 games at age 21 is a significant enough stretch to say you've arrived

So if Max King has never been elite before 2021, and is not elite in 2021, and is not elite in 2022, he is still elite, just out of form. 😂😂😂

PJays you have a natural sort of comedy aspect to you without even trying, that makes you a very loveable character. 😍

Elite. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

He has now gone from Max “has arrived” King to Max “just out of form” King. 😂😂
