Injury Max Rooke - knee surgery

As revealed by Neil Balme on this week's CATS TV.

While I am sad to hear about it, given Max has been unable to get the knee right even with a long lay off, it is probably the right decision, both in terms of us getting him back later in the year, which is really important to us, and also his long term playing future.

given our current selection dilemmas, now is probably the best time for him to go under the knife - hopefully he gets back on the track by september

i'm worried about Maxy. i hope he can come back, i love the guy, but I'm scared that his crash bang style may have taken its toll on his body. he cant afford to slow down any more.

poor Max! It is true that blokes that play hard like Max usually suffer career shortening injuries as they get older.

Rooke's premiership teammate Joel Corey isn't faring a great deal better, with no end in sight to his absence from the field due to a knee injury that has sidelined him since round four.

At least these problems are being dealt with now rather then later in the year. Such is the strength of the team they are in the fortunate position to be able to do this, and perhaps give a few games to some younger players to give them a taste of AFL. Every team has injuries and the cats would be no different, but in the long run this could be perhaps a blessing.

When is he actually in for surgery? Any results yet or tentative time frames....

Knee Tendonitis is a tough one. Not football related, but it kept Ben Hilfenhaus out for 6 months from Cricket.

Aaron Hamill played dirty and it backfired on him. Max has never, to my recollection, lined anyone up with his knee to take them out of the game the way Hamill did on SJ.

Geelong hard man Max Rooke had exploratory surgery last week to get to the bottom of his injury, which had been described as knee tendonitis. His injury in now listed as "indefinite".

I recall that's how Hamill played quite often. He' drop his knee in whenever he got the chance.

Could he do it? Has had no pre-season, no gametime this year and has to trek to the States now???? Very hard to imagine him getting back, but it would nice to have the option

desperate moves arent done early, worth waiting and there are excellent knee surgeons here in melbourne, and this is absolutely a desperate move

It smells of desperation , perhaps the rest option hasn't worked so now going to the next stage. No matter for this year or next , if they can diagnose and fix we should do it but something tells me though its not going to be good news.
