Sorry for the intrusion folks but I'm listening to 6PR sports central atm and 2 hosts, Karl Langdon and Brad Hardie are having a bit of a argument as if Max Rooke is in Geelong's best 22 or not. Hardie's argument that the Eagles clearly played undermanned Cats and started naming best 22 that were missing from that game and Langdon was up in arms that Rooke is no longer in that group of players. So they want Geelong fans' opinion on it. :)
I think that he clearly is in your best 22, what about you?

I was a huge fan of his because of the hardness he brought to the side, and at his peak, I definitely believe he belonged in our best 22. But the team has had to adjust to his enforced absence, and they've done this extremely well, so much so that I agree with Alfy's opinion that it would now be hard to fit him in the side.

I think our hypothetical best 22 right now is the GF team with Harley and Blake out, Pods and Lonergan in. Although even in hypothetical situations Ottens is bound to get injured. I really liked the dramatic improvement in Hawkins' game as the 2nd ruck and how easy it looked for him dropping back in the hole and cutting off forward entries and cruising around the ground.

A fully fit Rooke will be in our best 22 somewhere , just don't ask me where.
The question is will he ever be back to that level again. Hes worth gold in finals , but he plays so hard that his body really cops it , one would have to wonder if the body is starting go and he may never really get back to his best.
If he was fit can he play with Mooney,Hawkins and jPod? Last year Max played in the forwardline , as a defensive forward , this year the role has been changed to a goal scoring tall. I doubt he can play with the three talls however if Hawkins is out he maybe be a legit option.

A 90% plus fit Max Rooke is definitely in our best 22. He adds stuff to our team that we don't have a lot (ie. a physical presence in the forward line and an "enforcer" type of defensive forward).

A broken Max Rooke however is not in our best 22.

Max Rooke is currently broken. Let's hope he is not permanently broken, but we will have to wait and see. I fear that Maxy may be near the end, he has put his body through a lot of punishment.

EDIT: Turbocat beat me to it. You talk a lot of sense Turbo!

Geelong currently has 25 players, in my opinion, that are ready to slot seamlessly into a premiership standard side.

Taking the premiership team from last year as a starting point you can add Stokes, Podsiadly, Lonergan and J Hunt with the loss of Harley.

The next cab off the rank after that is Hogan.

I'm not that interested in picking the best theoretical 22 because I like the different flavour that each potential combination brings. I'm enjoying watching the Stokes-Byrnes-Varcoe combination that Rooke's absence enables.

Lets wait and see shall we? Last year everyone said Chapman was gone...
A fit Max Rooke is absolutely in our best 22! Hard as a Cat's head defensive forward who can also kick goals...eg 2 in a GF. Extremely unique and ifficult player for opposition defences. You reckon they aren't looking twice over their shoulders if he's around? I had him in our top 3-5 for the GF.

IMO, the team that played against Pies some weeks ago is close to our best 22, and we need to add Ottens and Corey, so Max is #25, unless he is FIT, and Hawkins doesn't make it back this year. Pods has possibly made Max redundant

Max Rooke???

Hi guys,

This might be old hat but can someone give me an update on the current ststus of Max Rooke's injury?
I understand he has a knee complaint but there is not much coverage on when we can expect him back on deck? After watching his last game vs Carlton I'm not overly convinced we'll see him back anytime soon.

Thanks guys

How did you not see this thread ?

Time for a Guide Dog

OP, he's definitely in our best 22. But the issues are that if Pods is still gunning it come finals time, even if Max is fit, I struggle to see him forcing his way back in.

Like all premiership sides, we have more than 22 players who could come in and do well, but only 22 spots.

In any case, with the role that Max plays, he has to be 100 % fit to play that role IMO, and that is a long way off. At this stage, to even say he will play again this year would be guessing.

Watching a replay of the R14 Cats v Saints match last year brought home just how tough and uncompromising Rooke is. IMO a fit Rooke is in our best 22, but the question seems to be whether he will fully recover from his knee injury. Ditto Joel Corey.

been said before, max is our version of aaron hamill, totally uncompromising but to his own detriment, and as sttew said, needs to be 100% to play his role

Fookem to The Max Rooke! He'll be back. Maybe he needs another injection of calfs blood. He set the tone for last years grannie with that amazing tackle and goal from outside 50 and is definately in my best 22.He creates so many turnovers. He could easily play state of origin rugby when fit and running around like the wild man of Borneo. The Podman is untested in Finals as is Hogan. How about Bomber T tries the forgotten man of the GFC Gamble up forward? He may not have a choice come Saturday. Pump A Pussies! P.S When are the results of last rounds footie tipping published? I managed to tip the round for a change.

Fully fit in form Rooke fits into our best 22. However with what seems like constant injuries he is being surpassed by players just because they will be able to take the field week in week out and not a few games every few months.

FWIW I saw Maxy at a club function a fortnight ago and he was walking with a very severe limp. He commented that it was a lot better than it had been though. I would have hated to see him then as it still looked pretty bad. He seemed doubtful that he would be back anytime soon.

Half the people who were at the ground for the GF (myself included) thought Max was B.O.G. Watching the replay, or live tv at the time, you can't quite grasp how bloody good he was that day. He pretty much got us over the line for a flag if you ask me.
Is he in our best 22? Read my post again if you need to!

The official where is Max at thread

So, any inside news on the man?

Keep hearing time frames on Otto and Hawk, but max seems to be somewhat left out of the injury reports. From snippets of Bomber he seems to think that Max is happier with the injury and can resume some level of training...but what that is i have no idea?

Things are getting a bit drawn out, as he has had no pre-season I would say that if he is not right to go in four-five weeks then he has no chance and missing the max factor in the finals will be a decisive loss for us. Hopefully this is not the case.

Any further comments or inside knowledge on this?
