• CARLTON'S Setanta O'hAilpin has been suspended by the AFL for four games while Pie skipper Nick Maxwell was banned for three.

Carlton's Irish-born defender shocked the football world by punching and kicking teammate Cameron Cloke during an intra-club match last Friday. If he takes an early plea he will miss the first four matches of the Premiership season, but will still be available for pre-season games.
The AFL gave him 325 demerit points for the punches and 250 for the kick, meaning he faces a five-match suspension if he were to challenge it at the tribunal and lose. A guilty plea reduces the sanction by 25 percent.
Collingwood's Maxwell was hit with his ban for a front-on bump on Eagle Patrick McGinnity during the Magpies' win in Subiaco on Saturday.
While Maxwell's act was only given 325 demerit points, his carryover points and poor previous record means if he takes it to the tribunal and is found guilty, he risks a four-match ban.
As the incident occurred in the NAB Cup, the ban can be served in part or in full as long as Collingwood stay alive in the pre-season competition.
That means, if he takes the three-match ban and the Pies win through to the final of the NAB Cup, he would be eligible to play in Round 1 of the season proper.

this is an absolute joke! he shouldnt be able to play NAB cup games only. It shoud carry over next season, not through the H&A season. Im very disappointed.

He has not been suspended yet has he?

Pies should put in a big effort on this because if this sets the standard for the year we have to start rebuilding again and draft some soft as butter, scrawny kids who can not possibly injure anyone else no matter how fair the bump.

Like it or not boys the MRP has become "Cause and effect"... You are right in saying that if the kids jaw was not broken he wouldn't have faced the MRP at all.. there are several examples of this.

Goddard punched Mitchell right on the chin in the prelim... in the centre square.. decent footage showing the incident.. but because Mitchell was ok (after a few seconds of looking a bit groggy) nothing came of it.. If Mitchells jaw had been broken Goddard would have been looking at 6 weeks min!!!

As much as it sucks... that is the way it has become.. Whack someone (and dont hurt them) scott free...

This rule has been in place since Byron Pickett was doing his thing, on a much harder/tougher scale obviously.

I think he should get atleast 1 or 2, 3 is harsh.
