Both classy players who can potentially add a lot. If we HAD to go with one who would you pick? Keep in mind that we want to win this game of footy over anything else such as development etc.

Mayne seems to be getting a lot of praise, but I did not see him do that much all game. I don't know if he spent half the time on the bench but stats are 4 kicks, 4 handpasses, 2 marks, 2 goals, 2 tackles. He had 1 free kick against. He showed a lot of poise kicking his 2 goals, and definately has good skills. We need him to get around 15 possessions to be of great importance. You have player like him getting 2 goals and effective possessions then that is great for the team

Ibbo has been fairly hammered however his stats were 8 kicks 8 handballs 4, marks 5, tackles 2, 2 frees for 5 against (one against Hodge was dodge) (so say negative 3). Obviously 5 free kicks against is too much so if he could cut that out his speed and skills could very well be the missing link for our team.

Ibbo for me at this stage.

Maynes stats weren't great - but he just looked like he was up to the level, he didn't get caught, didn't turn the ball over, and converted when needed.

Ibbo got caught a couple of times, sold some guys up the river once or two and generally looked a half a step behind the play - he'll get better, but i think he needs some time in the WAFL - maybe 1-2 games.

8 kicks and 4 handballs for Ibbo on the weekend.

I'd send Black back to the WAFL for a couple of 40 possession games, before bringing him back. I'd like to see Ibbo get at least one other game. See if he can get up around 20 touches.

Have to keep Mayne and Palmer in the team. I don't want to see them dropped at all this year. To kick 2 goals on debut for Mayne was tremendous and he should be rewarded. Seems to me like the sort of player that would rip a Derby apart. Looked good in the annual preseason trouncing of WC, but doesn't everyone.

Exciting when you think we have Foster and O'Brien hanging around at Freo Oval as well. Apparently we're all doomed though, because our list is too old.

Haha, nah, looking out the window and seeing 'mousetrap' and 'rabbits' breaking in the bay should be what makes your day. :):thumbsu:

Do you have some kind of problem with Black? Black is one of, if not the best kick in the team and you want him to drop him to the WAFL to get 40 touches? Are you kidding? Are sure you aren't the coach of Carlton?

Well, he deserves another game - but i don't know about ripping the Derby apart - lets just hope he chips in with 3-4 goals and count that a huge bonus.

We've got a much better crop than last year that is for sure - but alot of people are worried what will happen when the 30 years old in our team all drop off the pirch and our youngsters aren't quite ready yet. Our youth is looking good so far (remarkably so after last year) but if we'd had 18 Palmers on the field last week we still would have lost - young isn't the answer to everything.

I thought Ibbo did OK the free against Hodge was a shocker and he showed a fair bit of commitment in the clash, also ran down Bateman and gave away a 50/50 free kick, showed great pace to run him down.
The other tackle he did (I cant rember who it was) but showed the pace we need and saved a shot on goal which then ended up a goal to us at the other end. Needs more game time and will keep improving.

The senior blokes who had ordinary games should take responsibility for last weeks game, not the young guys. Crowley, Schammer, Peake, Mundy, M.Carr, Tarrant, M.Johnson were all ordinary last week. If you are going to drop someone, it should be one of those guys.

It was only Ibbo's second game. He improved as the game went on, dropping him won't help the team or his development. He is not the reason we lost last week.

Well, there was a guy out there who looked like he was playing his first game, and it wasn't Chopper Mayne. :D

When in form he is but across the pre-season he didn'tlook fit and his skills were off.

No, I think Black is great, but I wouldn't be confident in relying on him to play a full game for us. He really got flogged in the head the other day. Maybe a 40 touch game in the WAFL isn't what's required. Just a nice half of footy would be ideal. Might be the reason he wasn't picked. Who knows. Maybe he'll play and get the RG medal.

I think Ibbo will make it with time. But at the moment if it is a choice between Ibbo or Mayne I would go with Mayne every time.

Agreed. Can't wait to see Mayne on the weekend. Seems like the big game player sort. Ibbo on the other hand seems like the sort that might go missing. Reminds me a bit too much of the kid with no personality that would hide at the back of the class when it was time to get up and speak to the class. Mayne seems the opposite. We need more extroverted footy sorts. Although Campbell played average on the weekend, I loved how he was already starting with opposition players before the ball had bounced. It's the confidence I want to see more of around Freo. Mayne and Palmer yes, Ibbo at the moment no.

There was also the bit where he was a tad too casual about seeing a ball over the line at the goals.

Lol, yeah my god. What the hell was with that. I mean, good on him, he touched it, but jeez, I hope he understands that if he hadn't made contact to that ball, this board and other supporters would have near written him off!

bought my memory back to that time mid 2006 when Sandilands was consistantly letting goals drift over the top of the pack at the goal line without getting a touch on it. God i absolutely lost my cool once when i think Collingwood got a ball to drift over the line after the siren.

That's because people are morons.

Straight after last weeks game I said here Ibbo out for the Derby and back for the Tigers. He looks like he's got the full house as for as a footballer but I got the idea that he likes how he looks. Next step for him is play how looks. It will come and I'm looking forward to it.

Mayne did a couple of things last week with limited game time that really stood out. He could have finished with three if hadn't of dished off to wiz in the 2nd. I bet he wont make that mistake again. He seems to have a footy brain. I'd have him in this week. Get him on half way through 1st 1/4 and let him get about 15 to 20 minutes straight see if he can pace himself. Give him a forward flank and tell him to play more toward the wing.

I dont think either showed more than the other but at times showed they should be able to be there given more time.I would like to see them given a max of four rounds if they play well enough to keep their places then rested to the WAFL for a couple.
