Two weeks back, for two wins.

Like the media, i have been questioning our 'matchwinners' or 'gamebreakers' recently. Also commonly known as 'stars'.

I'm not claiming McCarthy is a star by all means, but it is a nice coincidence that he can come back to the VFL side, and suddenly, they start winning games.

What is it? Mere coincidence or does he simply straighten them up.... a whole 13 goals (we were getting beaten by 10 goals every week, won by 3 on the weekend). Does he have the X-Factor near goal we need in the seniors?

Or... is he just determined to get another contract?

Sorry, i can be a cynical bastard as well as an optimist (see Brisbane match thread).

i'd definitely prefer him rather than Lonergan to replace Playfair. His form has been more than solid in the VFL, and if he's ever going to make it in the AFL it will be now. Otherwise he'll be gone at year's end imo.

"A hard top with a DECENT engine and make sure its got a BIG trunk!"

The 2 wins in the VFL may also be attributed to the fact that we played 2 extremely average sides with many listed players unavailable.

According to the age he has been ruled out (inferred it was Thompson who ruled him out) as he has only played two weeks since returning.

Sounds like a definite starter.

That seems a strange comment from Thompson.King missed the entire pre-season and played half a VFL game 2 weeks before the season started, yet he played Rd1.

Why didn't the same thing apply to him ?

McCarthy has to play.

On KRock after weeks game , Im sure Bomber said that have a look at McC now that H was out.

X factor ? If you are talking marks yes sir but apart from that Im not sure what else he would add to our side. I cant think anyone really at our club who has that X factor like a Richo, we all have good solid steady contributers ... hohum.

What else does Richo add apart from Marks? He is a shocking kick for goal.

He did say that.I wonder if he hadn't seen the VFL game before he made that comment.

I got to the game in the 3rd qtr and I never saw McCarthy on the field. He was running up and down on the bench. Not sure if he was injured.

McCarthy must be a chance one would think of a game this weekend.

I like Lonergan though. He's tall (like McCarthy) and Lonergan is a good shot for goal from what I have seen of him.

I haven't seen McCarthy in a fair while so I wouldn't be sure of his kicking prowess. His marking ability has never been questioned and his frame definetly fits a key forward role. Last year he was the heaviest bloke at Geelong.

Yeah , left myself open for that one didnt I. But really Nana you cant really compare the two, could you.
Yes, Richo is not a great kick but he has also kicked double figures in the a main game, the guy has kicked 90 odd in a season. he has a "magic" about the guy you rarely see in the game these days. X factor, he has heaps of it, the one thing you can say is he is always entertaining.Good and bad. The other thing is this year, his kick has looked half reasonable, probably better than reasonable compared to Kenty boy with his jabby jabby jabs

Something about over 600 goals at an average of 3 goals a game in a pretty crap side. See how many of our current forwards end up with 600 plus goals. As much as people bag him and laugh at the mistakes, he's still a damn good footballer. Averages more goals per game than Tredrea or Tarrant. I'd kill to have him at Geelong. No question.

I remember hearing some reports from the VFL last year about McCarthy's around the ground kicking being pretty good, so perhaps he'll play further up the ground as H has been doing. He can then drift forward towards the square if needed and test his goal kicking prowess. He can't be that bad this year if he's kicked 16 goals in 3 matches and only missed a couple. I still believe that Macca is a confidence player and that he can kick alright when he's feeling good and perhaps 'in the zone', I've seen him kick the ball beautifully before (not often, but a couple of times), so as long as everyone has faith in him he might do alright.

And Kinglsey... Turbs you said you wanted a high flier, this guy is your man. I am pretty stunned he didnt get a game but Id say one more run in the vfl for fitness and he may got the nod. He is the ideal replacement for Playfair.

I don't think we have a more suitable replacement on our list for the position than McCarthy. As the 2 were coming through, they were very similar players...McCarthy's pack breaking the main difference. Big H has definitely stepped up this year, but why not McCarthy as well?
Very dissapointed not to see him in the squad this week.
