Mcdougall

McDougall has been on the injury list for about 3 or 4 weeks now with a hamstring injury. He seems to have a hell of a lot of those and maybe there's a problem that should be looked at. He goes back into the WAFL, begins to play well and then does another hammy. Story of his short career...

Come again?

The same Ashley Hansen on our list, tall bloke with red hair who can't kick straight? Same one?

He's a long term prospect for us anyway, still pity he has OP, couple of others have it at the moment (Rudeforth I think is one). Hadn't been playing badly for SD's, it will hurt them more than us at the moment.

???Up here in Townsville O.P. means overproof rum................if thats what Ashley Hanson is suffering from it's no wonder he can't kick straight !!!!
;)

If Josh Wooden can do stuff all for five years and retain his spot on the list, then surely we can afford a bit more patiance with McDougall.

McDougall can play, but he's injury prone.
As was Gaspar in his first two years at the club, and now it looks as though he's come good.

There are plenty of people taking up space on the list.
McDougall's not one of them.

I think a lot of people who are on McDougall's back need to chill out a fair bit.

He is only in his second year and a young man still.

He was always going to be a long-term project and I think we should let him have a good try at finding his feet before talking about de-listing him.

We've got a bit of a habit recruting TLB's (Tall lanky bastards) and most of them take time to play AFL. I think Gas only played 6 games for us in his first two years as a result of soft-tissue injuries and growth spurts. He's finally coming good now. Same deal goes for Hansen, Seaby, McDougall and Cox, though Cox was a bit older when we recruited him. They're all going to take time to get up to AFL level, skillwise and physique wise, give 'em time.

I can't see that, Buzz.

My two cents worth is that we have a very strong list. Apart from Harding I can't think of anyone else taking up space.

Who do you think we should be trashing?

ps

There is an underlying problem in having a strong list.......the salary cap. Lets say we have 36 players with good ability or potential. They all want $200K+ or they go. Thats $7.6M+ which is way above the cap. So reality has it that you need a number of promising youngsters or second string lower paid players to balance the books. That is why I believe we will have a problem at season end because a lot of younger players are going to want big raises and we won't be able to afford it. So I expect us to lose three good players and pick up draft picks which we will use for 17/18 year olds.

Harding - delist
Carroll - delist
Munro - delist
Merenda - delist or trade if anyone wants him
Taylor - see Merenda

Those who could feel a little nervous:

Banfield
Embley
Green
Haynes
Hunter
Williams
Wooden

And McIntosh and Pe Matera could retire.

I reckon there will be a bit of a cleanout this year, getting rid of the older and younger players that aren't performing.

Of those on the rookie list:

Beeck - good as gone, hasn't done anything in 2 years and expects to be delisted himself

Tuckey - because he was recruited from interstate, he must remain on there for another year.

McCarrey - dunno really. Been on there 2 years now. Will either be promoted or delisted with me leaning towards the latter.

Lynch - Will definetely stay on the list with a possible promotion.

Rudeforth - haven't heard how he is going. Will probably stay.

So my guess it that we will delist two rookie players.

There is absolutely no chance that McDougall will be delisted at the end of the year.

A top 5 draft pick, who by all reports is no where near AFL build, who was drafted on potential. He'll be at least given next year, and about another 20 WAFL games at least I'd think to prove himself, at least. Key position players don't grow on trees, and look at our list .... we need players for a few years time.

Wooden has earned himself a reprieve from the chopping list, and don't touch Williams either.

rant over

Well the main point I was trying to make, is that we should be more patient with McDougall.

Like Vis said, McDougall is at a similar stage that Gaspar was this time last year - and now look at him.

I'm not sure why I even made the 'taking up space' comment.

But I do agree with you, there are a lot less passengers these days. Judgey did a lot of things wrong, but at least he got rid of blokes like Hill, Holmes, Bennett ect.

The only players that I have real queries about are Michael Prior, Kasey Green, Josh Wooden, Greg Harding and Trent Carroll (although Trent did deserve his spot after his ok 2001 season).

It's unlikely that Richard Taylor and Mark Merenda will be around either.

Mcdougall probably has a lot of soft tissue injuries because he is probably still growing. Hes only 18/19....he probably suffers chronic soft tissue injuries cos he is still growing. Paul kouloriotis from Port suffers the same thing...hes had about 15 hamstring tears in the last 2 years simply because he is still growing.

Give him time to physically develop...why bother delisting him now after 2 seasons if he was a long term project anyway??

Why are some of u guys saying to delist williams.I think he is a very good player and there no way he should be delisted. He has played reg afl footy since he has been at the club.

i'm not sure that i would delist carrol. he probably won't ever be in our top 22 unless he has a dramatic approvement in form but he his a handy fill in. i think that was shown last year when we were hard hit by injuries.

we will definatly keep mcdougall. i seem to remember another young player who was given the potential tag but struggled with injuries for years. his name was david wirrpunda

I agree, you can't have 38 players that would always make the top 22, you wouldn't be able to keep them all at the club as some would want to move and get opportunities elsewhere, and also money constraints.
I reckon Carroll is a good back up for the back line.
My preference for Williams is to trade him for either a fairly high draft pick, or for a young player from WA, or elsewhere that would wanna stay, that would fir into our team nicely. Don't know who that is right now.

Williams has really stepped it up this year, particularly early on. After a shocking 2 years under Judge he is showing the talent that we saw glimpses of when he was running around as a long haired kid. I dont understand why he doesnt get more time on the ground when guys like Embley and/or Haynes are out there obviously struggling. He hurt himself against Richmond and maybe it carried through a little to the game against the Hawks but id expect him to be back into form this week against the Saints.

There's no way I'd delist Williams. What I meant was, if a decent trade came up, I wouldn't hesistate. We have enough forward options at the moment and although he is improving, I don't think he will improve much more. LMAO, I didn't mean delist him though, delistings are reserved for duds or have-beens...

Delist: (surely no other club wants them)

Harding
Taylor

Shaky:

Merenda
Munro
Green
Hunter
Carroll

Possible trade: (could be good at other clubs)

Embley
Haynes
Banfield

keep:

McDougall - may as well keep him
Morrison - any thoughts? I think he will be good under Woosha.
