Both had outstanding years, both come from left field, McEvoy coming 3rd in the comp for contested marks and Goldstein likely heading towards AA honours, both young, Goldsteins obviously the better ruckman but McEvoy's more valuble around the ground and has improved out of sight the last month or 2.

I'm obviously bias but Goldstein even objectively is the better ruckmen. Although McEvoy can be more influential around the ground with his pack marks.

Goldy takes the honors pretty comfortably right now and will be AA, but both will be two of the best ruckmen in the comp in a few years time along with Nic-Nat, Leuenberger, Smith and Kreuzer.

I don't understand why people say other young gun top shelf ruckmen have more potential then Goldstein..

I mean I can understand Nic-Nat being in that category, but McEvoy, Kreuzer, Leuenberger and Smith for neutrals seem to be the way to go in the long-term vs Goldy.

Goldstein's only just turned 23, so obviously its not age related, do people think Goldy's peaked and that others have more ability.

Pretty good point, the only reasons I guess are that McVoy still can improve ruckwork, Kreuzer consistency, I havn't seen enough of Leunberger to comment and people seem to think Smith is 18 when he's actually 21.

Goldstein is a lefty, as such, is very very hard to beat in the centre bounces.

Goldstein has probably the best skills of any ruckman other than Cox imo also.

McEvoy's marking is definately a strength, but thats probably the only thing he has over Goldstein imo.

Ruckman usually become better marks as they get older also, so im not really sure where the Goldstein won't improve line comes from, when he becomes a better contested mark, he'll be the leagues #1....

It's because he plays for North. If a ruckman in another Victorian side was having the year Goldy has had you'd see a 2 page spread in the Herald Sun all about it. Not many people watch our games and the lack of media exposure toward some of our players doesn't help.

I'm aware about the 'North effect' (see Mark Jamar's 2010) but that doesn't change the serious lack of media exposure Goldy gets overall and why neutrals rate other ruckmen higher.

McEvoy showed his true form today.

The lack of media attention regarding Goldstein's season is unbelievable and symptomatic of the shallow media only reporting on what sells newspapers.

Goldy has plenty of upside. He's a basketball convert who only recently turned 23.

out of these two Goldstien But Matthew Leuenberger is better then the both of them he is the only one being called the next dean cox

Yes people are calling him the next Dean Cox, but have you seen much of Goldstein I would say they are equally good of goldy in front by the smallest margin.

I fail to see how Leuenberger is automatically better than Goldstein? Saying that he'll be a better ruckman is nothing but guesswork and has no substance to it.

They're the same age, and were taken in the same draft, except Leuenberger was a high pick while Goldstein was taken in the 30s. At this stage, Goldstein is ahead of Leuenberger based on Ruckwork and the fact that he beat him in the ruck overall both times we played.

Goldstein posted a huge number of hitouts this year. 741 IIRC. Better ruckman easily. As a midfielder, him and McEvoy are equal I think. Goldy has the potential to take a big mark, see Round 8 against Melbourne.

How did McEvoy end up with 16 votes?

Is this a software error?

Goldstein was one of the buys of the season in Supercoach for me - Started the season at 330k, played the entire season averaging 113 with amazing consistency.

Gun player - Clearly better than any other young ruckman in the competition, IMO.

Goldstein has been dropped after a very ordinary start to the season. Needs to improve his work around the ground.
