Both mcgough and spriggs have been nominated for the national draft.

Who would you pick 1st?
and which one would you rather at your team?

neither to be honest

if i had to choose 1 would go hmmmmmm spriggs cos of the pace, though he has no foot skills

neither
mcgough's head is way too big for his body and spriggs can't kick

Cats 2005 - you must have been asleep when McGough ripped you blokes apart in 2003. Probably no spot for him at Geelong, but who ever gets him will be doing very well IMHO.

Personally I'd prefer McGough but I still think Spriggs has a lot to offer. It will be interesting to see how he performs away from Geelong and now he should be well and truly over his knee injury he might just make them regret it.

There's pigs flying past my window. ;)

Whats worse, a guy who gets it 25 times and uses it 5 times or a guy who gets it 15 times and uses it 3 times.

We should have persisted with McGough and I don't want us to draft Spriggs so I'll say MCG.

Spriggs has one of the best ever beep tests and can move alright, just lacks the finishing skills doesn't he? Could you turn him into a run-with tagger like the Pies did with the similarly skill-less Brodie Holland?

McGough can get the thing plenty but makes some poor decisions and has poor foot skills. He's probably a bit slow too. As a tigers fan, we've had enough of those types over the years.

Give me Spriggs, and make him a tagger.

No problems with McGough's decision making. His decision making is very good. However, agree that he is a tad slow and his kicking could be better.

McGough - Can get the ball, but is slow and can't kick.

Spriggs - Is faster, by still can't kick, and can't get the ball either.

Neither are all that fantastic, but could definitely help some teams looking for depth, and McGough could be of good use to a team looking for inside midfielders.

Spriggs has pace and stamina and with a second chance may just turn his career around maybe as a crumber or off the bench in spurts to break up the play

McGough reminds me of gladstone small no neck can get the pill when it is wet but when he gets it turns it over with disposal

But the record of other players turning it around at other clubs is very good on most occasions eg Scotland and Teague

Surely spriggs because you can teach anyone foot skills if you want. Mcgoughs pace is something that is not as easily learnt as kicking

i cant belive ur comparing these two players...spriggs is too cocky and he is ********house and mcgough is an average player who would get a game for 10/16 AFL Clubs

The whole mcgough is great in the wet dosen't add up as he's only played in those conditions twice at senior level. Yes he got BOG in one of them matches but it far from makes him a wet weather specialist.

Brodie actually has good-very good skills, rarely misses a set shot, and has kicked 8 goals in a game. He was probably tried as a tagger more because his career stagnated in starvation corner in the forward pocket and he has the bulk to play a more physical role on ball, despite not being a natural ball winner.

I will put money on McGough playing for a good 5 years more and Spriggs a max of 2.

You're right. Some of the best games he's played has been at the dome or on a sunny day!

I'd be happy if the Saints picked McGough.

I'd be mighty peeved if we picked Spriggs.

Couldn't really give a stuff about beep tests. Both have played enough footy to evaluate them as footballers. McGough can play and can get the pill. Whether he can break into our best 22 remains to be seen, but I reckon he's definately worth the punt.

What is it with the pre-occupation in the AFL with "atheletes"? Give me a kid like McGough anyday over some hair-brained scheme to import "athletes" that need to be taught how to kick a ball.

I'd rather a player who specialised in something, than one who was no good at anything.

McGough.

He's good enough to get selected ahead of Thompson and Peckitt, and this is Harvey's last season.......

Frankie and Thomo are pinch hitters for us now. Both have shown they can play this role and play it well. I'm not sure if McGough would change this role, but he provides extra depth and could see more playing time than those two.

Harvey is the one I think McGough could learn a lot from. I have no doubts that RH will step straight into an off-field role on his retirement, and don't be so sure that 2005 will be the year. It wouldn't surprise me RH went around in 2006 baring a serious injury. Either way, having both Harv's and Burkie working with McGough over the next 12 months could really improve his game.
