If there is, it will be a Steven King scenario, where what we get is a nominal pick 125 or so.So I guess that means no other club has enough interest in him to trade for him?
My opinion is that Ken would have been told that he would play little to no games next year and has had a bite from a Melbourne club, club most probably thought he is worthless as a trade so both side have mutually agreed on a release to allow him to play for another AFL club next year.
If he is delisted and gets picked up in the draft, do we still need to pay out his contract or is that null and void because he has a new club?
Also, any clarification if he has retired, been delisted or is seeking a trade yet?
Kenny deserves better than this.
He loves the AFC, and he's one of the nicest, most genuine blokes you'll ever meet.
That being said, if the rumours about the Bulldogs and Fremantle wanting to trade for him last year, then the Club and Kenny have done him a massive dis-service by trying to do the right (easy) thing.
We should've never kept him if we had no intention of playing him.
I really, really hope someone picks him up and has him play a full season next year, he's not a world beater, but I think he still has something to offer.
Macca - if we were to trade him, it can be arranged between us and his new Club that we pay (for example) half of his contract for the first year; is that correct?
Does his pay out count towards the salaray cap?
IMO after last year's elimination final the club did offer Kenny a new 2 year contract in good faith.
The reason I say this is because Kenny actually started the year in our best 22.
However, we are seeing the game of footy change very quickly and the game has passed Kenny by at a rapid rate.
Reading in between the lines, the club would of told Kenny that his opportunities would be limited, so his options would be to be traded, delisted or to retire.

I'm pretty sure that the scenario you have depicted is very close to what happened.
Those that say the club mistreated Mc. must think that Kenny was offered 2 year contract so the club could shit him off by delisting him the very next year. And, just for the privilege, they were prepared to pay 400-500k$ for it.![]()

from what i remember, Freo were the only club interested, but McGregor preferred to stay than move to Perth.I though Kenny asked to be traded and only re-signed with the club when no one else wanted him (I'm not saying this with any malice, it's what I thought actually took place).
Having said that, he played some wonderful games for us, and did a reasonable job considering he was always being compared to Pavilich.
Yet somehow they were found cleanI love how the club is trying to cover their backside here. We haven't cut him but he as retired. In other words the club tries to dismiss the opinions that he was pushed.
IIRC, if McGregor retires, then he turn his back to the last year of his contract which means the club is not on the hook for the second year of his contract. If this is the case, then it doesn't go into the salary cap.
Whats the bet McGregor gets job at the club for retiring before his contract expired, ala Matthew Robran. IIRC, the Matthew Robran scenario was investigated by the AFC for potential salary cap breach.
