Re: Channel Ten just reported McGregor out.

It just upset me the way in which this has unfolded and he deserved better.

I guess knee-jerk reaction by one sad kenny fan!!

.
Kenny has stated that it was HIS decision to retire as he had obviusly realised the game had passed him by. On 5AA, despite suggestions by Cornsey, he stuck to his guns and declared it was HIS decision. He said money has never been his reason to play football and was certainly nothing to do with his decision to retire. I believe he was well looked after by the Crows who respected his decision and a financial settlement was also given. I heard him say in another interview that he was pleased that the financial settlement will allow him to give him a year to further his studies and plan his career more freely.
A thorough gentleman and I classify him as a great Crows clubman who will always be fondly remembered.

I liked Kenny.

It was his ungainly playing style. The fact that he was at times our only option to play as a tall forward, the fact that he was at times our only option to play as a tall defender, or his resemblence to children book character Grug.

He was a lovable character, who gave it his all for the club. The game was always going to pass him by in 2008. It's quicker now than ever before and that was never exactly a strong suit, but he got the best out of himself. He was a handy bloke to throw at either end of the ground and I feel as though the end of his career not being so flash has seen him unfairly maligned. I'm hoping that history will look upon him better than the rough go he copped this year (I'm not saying it wasn't justified, because I already said the game had passed him by). I will always look back on his career with fondness. :)

Couldn't put it better myself.

Apart from adding that my son is gutted and now needs to find a new number for his guernsey. Nothing like seeing some ignorant Collingwood or Richmond supporting kid at Auskick asking "who's number 16 for Adelaide?" and my boy drawing himself up to his full 3 foot 8 and saying "Kenny McGregor, of course!"

Kenny will be missed, by his biggest fans and his smallest.

It can only be Massie.

Shirley and Doughty have both signed new contracts.

In the next 12-24 months we will most probably have the youngest squad in the AFL all due to the fact that we recruited hardly anyone of value during the early stages of the Gary Ayres era.

Potentially at the end of the 09 season Stiffy will most probably be our oldest player unless I have worked things out wrong.

Shirley, Massie and Doughty will be cleaned out in this time and Macca, Goody, Edwards all would have retired.

If you are right, that is too much experience to lose at once imo. Could easily add Burton to that list.

I feel Massie will now be delisted after trade week. Someone else should have gone with him but it looks like we gonna have a mass exodus next year. In reality, it will result in a few blokes getting an extra year in 2010 that they maybe shouldn't simply because we cannot get rid of everyone at the end of next year.

I couldn't have said it better myself. A big thank you Ken for your career at the Crows very much appreciated, and all the best for the future

My money would be on Scott Stevens. 9 months older than Johncock. Oldest player on our list at the ripe old age of 28.

That was absolutely pathetic by Cornsey - he kept repeating the same question, knowing the answer, just to try and make Kenny say it.

I wish they'd piss him off with KG.

Kenny said he'd definitely play on for WWT; had a bit of interest from interstate (nothing concrete), but that he felt uprooting his entire life to continue his career for another year or two, with no certainties, wasn't worth it.

Yeah I know amazing isnt it, but we always knew this would potentially be on the cards after the terrible recruiting and player development while Ayres was at the club.

Could 2010 for us be one of the few times in history that a club hasnt had a veteran on their list ????

And 2011. Stevens wouldn't be eligible by then either.
And 2012. Assuming they retain the rule about getting rid of non-tier-one players once they hit 30.

I didn't see that one coming. You just gotta hope that you can find a reasonable replacement for him now that he has retired. You will miss him.

What about Brett Burton?

I'm probably being over-optimistic, however, i still think that McLeod also could go on in 2010 because his style of play suits the modern day running game, he plays direct football and crosses the lines and, having had his knee cleaned up again, i dont think that injury would be a major concern.

If he's fit, then sure. Roo and Hart were perfect examples of how their form was just as good with age as previously. But then the old bodies didn't hold up...

We'll have to see how Macca's knees go next year.

Devo as.

Good on you Kenny for going out the way you did, typifies the way he conducts himself, putting the team before himself as always :thumbsu:
Ken will be remembered as a loyal clubman who got the best out of his abilities, and was unfortunately not given as many opportunities as he deserved under the current coach.
There will be at least one number 16 at footy park during crows home games for years to come, I wont be changing my guernsey :D;)
As a side note the Adelaide University Blacks logo was almost certainly modelled on his hair (see left). Quite an honour for Kenny.

McLeod might play 2 more years. I expect Burton being given a one year deal because it was the right thing to do. I would expect him to possibly retire at the end of next year or the end of 2010. So we might last out until the end of the 2010 before all the remains of the old guard are gone.
