After Kenny's good game yesterday it got me thinking about the time he was drafted. It came as surprise to many [especially us Wd/WT supporters] that he got the nod above Pavlich as our 17 year old pick.

According to Michaelangelo Rucci [on 5AA some time ago] there was a story/reason for this selection - but for the life of me I couldn't work it out.

Kenny is a good average player who will get better - Pavlich is an emerging superstar as we all know.

So what do people know or recall of this original selection and will the Crows ever feel justified in making this choice?

time will tell

Stevo for Club Champion in 2002!

Kenny has taken some time to come on but he is finding his feet at the moment. It is easy to judge people after the event but at the time it was a difficult decision no doubt. I guess the other thing we should keep in mind is that Adelaide has been a much harder team to crack a spot in. When Pavlich was drafted he basically was put straight into a Fremantle team that was struggling and had no choice but to play young kids. Pavlich has reeped the rewards of this and has turned into a great player. Kenny is doing everything right at the moment and I see a great future for him aswell.

I think that Pavlich will stay a docker, I think he is happy there, he is a vice captain and they are starting to improve as a team. I think that any attempt to lure him back would be as fruitfull as the Ben Holland saga. The Crows should test the waters and put an offer forward but at the end of the day I don't think he will leave WA.

No contest - Crows hierachy should admit the stuffed up big time by selecting Kenny over Pavlich. If the Crows make the finals & Fremantle miss out (ie. they have problems winning away games), I reckon we are still a reasonable chance of getting Pav. The best thing the Crows can do to improve their chances is to win finals matches.

I think one of Rucci's points is that we could have had both. We could have drafted Kenny and then placed Pav on the rookie list (or vice versa) - but we did'nt.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Didnt catch the figure but Reidy on 5aa tonite said it was ridiculously over inflated but if true the Crows would not pay it....NOT ON YOUR NELLY.

Trouble is I didnt see the story

Pavlich was on the Foxtel programme "On the Couch" and Robert Walls suggested he could command $2 million over the next three years, which Walls also admitted was way too much.

I can just see Reidy blowing a blood vessell when he heard that figure.

Pavlich is another one they let get away.

McGregor will NEVER be one fifth the player that Matty Pavlich will be

He just doenst have a footy brain

I used to watch them both for the Eagles and the gulf is just so noticeable its not funny

The amount of times Kenny goes for a mark and it hits him on hte head is laughable.

He had a good game last week and a reasonable second half against brisbane

He can be a Centre Half Back I am sure but solid and consistent will be the most he can hope to achieve IMHO

I hope he proves me wrong but that's my assessment for what its worth.

(Many others have proved me wrong in the past)

In fairness to the recruiting staff, 15 other clubs could have picked Pavlich in the draft or stashed him on the rookie list. The fact that they didn't suggests that Pavlich has made enormous strides since his junior footy days that no-one predicted.
