Luke is my favourite Docker for many reasons (one of which he went to my school) and I was reading through the intra club reports in which he seemed to play well.

He is paying $41 for the Coleman. Very nice odds IMO especially considering you guys should improve on last season.

So, 2 part question:

1) The Pavlich factor. There are only so many times a ball goes into a forward 50, one would think Pav would take a majority of the ball. I think you can put Pav down for 50 goals this season, I dont know how much will be left for McPharlin. When you consider the Coleman medalist would have to kick 80 goals, the thought of McPharlin kicking 80 and Pav 50 seems unlikely to me. If it did happen, you guys would be in for a huge year.

2) Will he be moved to CHB if that position isnt covered by Polak, Mundy et al? Will the Pavlich factor kick into the coaches thinking when they consider that they could get more out of Luke at CHB than playing a bit role behind Pavlich in the forward line. If Pav is going to be the gun CHF (ala Carey), he really needs to demand the ball and space inside the forward 50.

Thoughts?

Worth a small tickle at the least IMO.

One thing that is a bit of a concern though is his accuracy. He's becoming a cross between Ian Perrie and Paul Peos when it comes to shots at goal. Needs to improve kicking style for mine. However I think he should get between 40-60 regardless of the Pavlich factor depending on Injury

I think Pavlich played two different CHF roles last year:

(1) Played outside 50, gained the contested ball there and pumps it into the foward fifty quickly and accurately. Kicked less goals but the structure worked better across Half forward.

OR

(2) Plays inside 50, becomes a seriously dangerous goal kicking option.

I can see him playing more style (1) this year (especially earlier in the season) and getting out of the way of McPharlin, especially given his shoulder injuries - taking marks on long leads outside the 50 zone will be easier on the body than (2). But sure, if it is option (1) and Pav's there for most of the season, then Luke will struggle to kick anything like the required number of goals.

On the moving Luke around again, IMO can't see it happening - he will play FF all season.

Last one could be the knockout blow though - his kicking is still not consistent. He is only making use of ~60/70% of his chances so it will depend how much ball he gets from the midfield as to whether he will have enough chances to kick the required number of goals. My early impression is that the midfield will still be our weak point and that he won't get enough delivery to get near the coleman.

I actually thought he was reasonably accurate last year but I could be wrong.
Anyone have his stats?
Anyway, he should be taking most marks in the forward 25m so he should be ok...
As for the Coleman...who knows?
Pav will be first pick but what a second option!!

McPharlin doesn't kick straight enough to win the Coleman. It'll take a few years.

Ysaye's points are spot on ... though you have to take into account who is his opponent. If you put Chad Cornes on him you want him in the goal square and bomb it long so he competes body on body. If he's in the goal square and you've got a Wakelin on him then you run Wakelin out to the 50m arc, and run him around and make him chase you on the lead. And then make the put Cornes back on him.

Thanks you holiness. I think it is his kicking style (much the same as Harry Highpants) that makes people think He is not a good kick on goal.

Who could forget the two 50M+ goals in round 21 against the Sainters?

I must admit I did hand count the behinds column from the Freo Website so it could've been off as I may have been distracted and double counted but that's amazing. Particularly since he has one of the worst kicking actions I've ever seen (kicks like a true backman :thumbsu: )

That's not good. Milne kicked as many goals as Pavlich?

In all fairness who could forget that shot from 15m out? :o

BBBHall got 120 shots on goal. Pav got 85. Elvis only 46. (not including probably each had a few OOB or drop short). (and it isn't because Hall is the only target, O'Loughlin had 78, O'Keefe 64.) Gehrig almost 130, Richo/Tredrea about 110.
That's the key. Deliver the ball to them and have them hold on to their marks. Both (despite what some have said about Pav) can take a pack mark. Both are pretty quick on the lead. So lets make sure we use them and get the ball to them!
