Clement by a mile.:thumbsu:

I'd probably agree, Clement is one of the best backmen in the competition at the moment, but McPhee is still a damn good player when not playing with an injury.
Pretty good comparison as both can play various roles on both key position players and the smaller running players. I think Clement is better though.

Get that poll up, could be interesting.

This could be one of the first polls that a Collingwood player may actually win.
Clement is a respected player even amongst opposition supporters and is widely regarded as one of the elite backmen in the game. And rightfully so.
Along with McPhee, he provides great run out of the backline through hard running and long penetrating kicks.
Would say McPhee just shades him in the run out of defence but Clement is by far the better kick.
It's in the negative aspect of defending that Clement imo streaks ahead. A much better "stopper" than McPhee, and also more versatile in the sort of forwards he can stand next to. Clement only really struggles against the gorillas of the competition (gehrig, neitz etc).
After all that.....Clement by a fair way (especially on this years form), but McPhee at his best is still a very good player. Just need to see alot more of it.

Hooray! an unbiased Collingwood supporter! Agree with your assessment 100%

McPhee, just.

Only because he is more versatile, as he can play on the big forwards. But he can also run off half back and be very damaging.

Clement is great at playing on the 3rd tall forward, thrashing them, and controlling his sides defence. Needs to take the better players to gain more respect I think.

Swap the names around and you are, in fact, correct.
Respect for Clement > Respect for McPhee.

Nathan Thompson isnt a bigger enough forward for you? Clement can play on any forward. Mark Williams, Nathan Brown, Nathan Thomspon etc.

Clement easily...

By the way Sheedy ****s McPhee around too much. The guy is changing positions every quater...

Whilst McPhee is a very, very good player on his day, he would struggle to match the consistency of Clement, he is a star defender. Not the same type of player mind you, the only thing they really have in common is that they were traded by Freo :)

Clement played on Gherig last year and kept him in check despite St.Kilda destroying us in the midfield and around the rest of the ground.

Since coming to Collingwood I have not seen James Clement have a bad patch...he has had the occassional game (I would estimate perhaps 4 or 5) where he has taken a whipping....but never a bad patch. His kick out of full back is probably the best in the AFL along with Wirripunda...his versatility is unmatched. Nobody in the AFL is asked to shut down 6'4 behomoths one week and then follow up with a demolition of 5'10 speedster the next and complete his task with such dominance. He is the best backman in the AFL bar none as he provides superior skilled rebound whilst flat out shutting guys down.

Clement and my reason
