Worked well for us last time. Played West Coast on Friday 13th June and that started a run where we were a kick away from winning 7 in a row. Great night for Lloydy and Hille also.Nab cup can't come quick enough, really wanna see this kid in action for us.
I hope the fact our game falls on Friday the 13th doesn't represent a bad omen.![]()
Can't wait to see the new backline with Hurley and Ryder in action together, but am unsure who the half backs would be. I like Houli and Dempsey for speed and burst-through factor, but where does that leave David Myers? Also, am I the only one not yet convinced by Pears?

Sure did.
Someone has to come last though....
Yeah or a floating third man up player?...use hurley to release fletcher up the wing on occasion?
.Yeah or a floating third man up player?
Would love to see Fletch take on the "Richo role" though, hopefully he can do that for at least the first round (Hurley-Treds, Ryder-Westhoff), then we could see some more spirals that actually go from the centre circle to the attacking goal square instead of from the kick-out to the centre circle.
I was joking mate. Clearly he's not up to speed with regards to his fitness levels yet. Should improve on that if he puts his mind to it in the near future.

I can't see Hurley being used on the big full forwards too often though, consistently beating U18's is one thing but playing on huge men week-in-week out would have to take its toll (N.Brown had a year in the system so he was better prepared).

Nothing at all to do with putting his mind to it or his fitness level for that matter. Like a lot of the Aboriginal boys there where questions about his endurance before the draft. Jetta was the same, Rioli was the same. They all struggled with the initial distance running aspects. Even in his third pre season Jetta is still a long way behind the midfielders.
Yarran will be fine. Carlton will be happy to use him in the same role as Rioli and he will produce a bit of magic most weeks as a small forward.
In regards to Jetta, do you think his tank is making big improvements?
I know you always thought he was more a forward with his to his endurance levels but I'd love to see him eventually develop the engine to play a role in the middle and rest up forward. There's not to many players who read the ball off the hands as well as him, would be nice to see him roving a few taps.
Dont think Fletch has the tank to take on the Richo role.
Fletch is best served trying to be the loose man i defence. He will blow up big time if he tries to run as far and wide as Richo does.

Definitely did know he had question marks over his endurance before he was drafted, that was one of the reasons why he didn't go in the top five IMO.
But some people on the Carlton Board are also saying he doesn't look like he has his mind completely on the job at training, and in some drills he has seemed to be taking the easy options in some cases. I know a lot of BigFooty is pure speculation and is mainly he say, she say, but a fair few people had the same opinion.
So for him to take the next step with regards to fitness testing IMO, he needs to put his mind to it. I know he isn't a natural runner, but his fitness can definitely do with a lot of improving. Houli struggled for leg speed at underrage level, before U/18's, and he addressed that with a running coach and he is now one of the fittest players at the club.
That conflicts with the opinion of these three supporters who dont mince words and know footy. But some people on the Carlton Board are also saying he doesn't look like he has his mind completely on the job at training, and in some drills he has seemed to be taking the easy options in some cases.
At 10.55am they did a simple drill where the ball was rolled out, they picked it up dodged a couple of bags and had a shot on goal. Yarran looked so good in this. His ability to balance and dispose quickly and accurately was above anyone else. All class.
Another nice drill was the receive handball, give handball, receive bump from player with bag in middle and run to other end. Chris Yarran had his own style. He received a Judd handball and promptly decided to sidestep the player with the bag and then give off the handball. It happened in a flash. Waitey went to ram the little fella with the bag and before he knew it he was past him. He does need to put some muscle on that upper body - but the kid has that X factor about him in the way he glides across the turf and nonchalantly goes about his footy. Don't confuse the nonchalance with laziness - it's a rare gift to have that and once used to the pace of AFL footy - he'll fit into our structure very well.
Sore thumb...look I've only been to training once this year.......but I'm going to buck popular opinion, stick my neck out and go out on a limb......sure he's quiet, he doesn't gut bust like Judd at training....but for mine he stuck out like a sore thumb with the likes of Stevo, Judd, Murphy and Gibbs as the other player with pure class stamped all over him in the way he moved, made decisions and his skills......

Explain why there are conflicting opinions...That conflicts with the opinion of these three supporters who dont mince words and know footy.

Am I the only one who seems to remember General saying Jetta had a attitude problem?
Wouldn't surprise me. Not saying he did say it, but there are plenty of people on BigFooty that just assume things without considering the facts.
Anyway, this thread is about Hurley not Yarran.
I'd just like to say as long as a player performs to his potential on the field it doesn't matter if they're training the house down or not.
