Very good tonight, was my BOG apart from Rooey. Wonder if he'll get back on track like he started out in 05 now... Here's hoping :o

Yep. I've tried to reserve critisism on the kid (and it's been hard at times) but I reckon 08 is his year. It was time to step up and deliver and he did exactly that. His set shot on goal was piss poor though.

Disagree. Although he had a lot more possessions he slaughtered the footy with regularity.

Have a look at the replay in the last Q. He was first to a contest and lifted his head. he clearly squibbed it in a pressure situation and it was right in front of Roos. He laso has a chance to set us up in the last Q when passing to a player on the lead and missed him by 20 metres.

I can handle having a soft outside midfielder but not a squib. He also does a Mathews in a one on one contest and you will find his contested possessions were mainly "alah Mathews" where he got first possession but folded up with footy and made no attempt to dispose of the footy. And he is another slow thinker who seems to have little perception of opposition players around him.

Was that McVeigh??

 I was at the ground last night and didn't see.

F*** it! I take back everything I just said :D

Yeah that was his one bad moment, but seriously last night he was hitting targets and reading the play, hasn't happened in a long time. That was the one bad blunder though.

i think, after what was an awful, mistake-riddled start by most of our players, i'm prepared to concede that mcveigh at least kept trying all night, he frequently put himself in good positions, he ran it reasonably well and i actually found myself applauding his efforts when i saw him at the bottom of a pack in that abysmal first quarter
he was not our best, but at least he had a real go
and for someone who has been severely critical of he and leo barry, i thought they were both among our better players, and in fact leo made some timely interceptions and was good most of the night

Definately one of the best of the night. His errors were no worse than every else on Sat. night.

I have no problem with Leo's ability to get the ball, he just butchers it when he gets it. He created nothing last night. I just hope he has a brain fade and improves his disposal, because he does what he does so often they must be modus operandus not brain fades.

I will be pleased if he can find as much of the footy as he did on Saturday night for the rest of the season. It would only be a matter of ironing out the mistakes.

Has potential. Will he fulfill it this season?

Good to see you give Leo a bit of credit Rancid he was good last night but there is a long season ahead so lets hope his legs dont desert him and he plays to his capabilities and doesnt bite off more than he can chew as he did regularly last year. Also a big improvement from everybodys favourite player as well, his intensity was up 100% on his usal output.Just a pity Bedford was not there to see it as i spoke to his good buddy from Willy this morning an apparently he was up Corowa on his Easter Sabatical.

Leo and LRT would have been a lot more value back in the day's with Mark Browning running past them and demanding the the handball and kicking the ball long and deep into our forward line, that's what we lack now,to much stuffing around and picking up meaning less possesion's, and giving the other team to much time to flood our forward line,do we ever man up or just run wide and hope for a turn over..

I saw that too nico, up untill than I thought he had been doing well, with Fosdike missing I though he, Buchanan and Bolton needed to find another 5 pozzies a match between them, I will give him another shot but I was dissapointed with that lack of effort.

I'm glad someone else saw it. I can't stand that feint hearted stuff. Why carry this sort of player when someone in the wings with a bit of grunt and superior disposal is waiting their turn. Barlow, Brennan, Brabazon, Fosdike, Laidlaw, and Schmidt come to mind.

McVeighs been pulling out since he played senior footy.

I dont know what game you guys were watching, but i thought Mcveigh was his playing to his usual low standards. The set shot from close range was appalling. He is not a league footballer. Just drop him, please Roos.

yeah, my son and i looked at each other when we realised grundy, i think it was, had passed to mcveigh
any other player

we shook our heads

he's not alone, of course, just another of our crumbers who can't actually kick goals
we all know his record is even some kinda joke among roos and the coaching staff (as porven by the tasmanian preseason incident)

21.7 in 2006 (followed by a very inaccurate 2007). It would be rubbish to say McVeigh doesn't know how to kick accurately.

He's clearly a confidence goalshooter (as sadly many of our forwards, in particular BBBH and MOL, are). Just to prove the 'confidence' point: even though he kicked a lousy 11.15 last year, in every goalscoring match he kicked more goals than points. Has a smooth kicking action which, if the head is right, should enable him to get good accuracy stats.

Also has a knack for getting free in the forward 50, as he did in the 3rd Q last night (and is beginning to curb his annoying tendency to wave his arms around like he's playing U/10s once he does). His future lies as a small forward who does occasional rotations through the middle. Will never be a grunt & tackle bottom-of-the-pack midfielder (it's not like we don't already have millions of them), but he reads the play well and so can either drop into a hole or shark the packs.

McVeigh just needs to get more of the pill to be an established contributor. 2007 was his most prolific year yet, but he only cleared 20 disposals once. So to rack up 20 disposals in the first game of 2008 was a solid start.

The last thing the swans need is for McVeigh to get more of the pill. His decision making and disposal are on par with Fosdike.

He got free a lot against the saints because Ross Lyons doesn't rate him and gave his man a green light to play loose. Otherwise surely we would have traded Mcveigh instead of Adam or Sean.

if this guy keeps improving like this it will only improve us.his disposal and attack on the footy has improved,it's like he has been reading big footy.
if he keeps it up myself and rancid will have to say sorry, but it will have taken more games than any other player in modern history.
the only thing he did wrong today was his lack of intensity in tackling and missing another easy shot at goal.
well done mchack

You could have been mistaken for thinking that Mark McVeigh was playing for us today. I think this is the year which Jarred McVeigh will show us why Paul Roos has been so persistent with him.

i've already acknowledged in the individual players thread in roomies that he's definitely doing well this season, particularly in finding space and getting TO the ball rather thand rifting away from it and out of games
very fit, looking better each week

McVeigh played well today though I thought in the first half he made crucial blunders which could've been easily avoided. Dropped easy marks and handballs though I was glad to see him back himself up and play well in the second half. He can kick goals now!!!

it's funny how we veiw games as i thought his 1st half was better

Jarryd, I take it all back. You can still improve your decision making but your looked much quicker and more dangerous than I've noticed in the past. Great game, keep it up.

I thought Macca was one of our best yesterday. Can't remember ever thinking that before. I've been on record saying that some have been a little too harsh on him in the last couple of seasons. But now that we have plenty of pace around the ball again, I think Macca might just start to come into his own now that he's freer to run off his man a bit.
