Collingwood ahead of its clash with Adelaide on Saturday, has named JA to start at FF, and has omitted Medhurst.

I think this is a very risky thing to do.

Playing players for 1 games I dont think, really helps them find their form.

Last week, when we selected medhurst, I thought, no matter how he performs, he must play this week aswell. So that if something happens come finals time, he atleast has some AFL time coming into finals... I dont think 1 game provides that. I though that towards the end of the game, medhurst got a little better, and was starting to find his feet again.

If we where going to drop medhurst after just 1 game, Then we should have brought in Anthony last week, instead. As to give him 2, or even possibly 3 games if they play him next week leading into the finals.

Last year JA was good for us in the finals, and I hope he can do the same this year if he gets a spot.

Have to play JA next week aswell if we are going to use him during finals... same with medhurst... Problem is now, you may be changing to much a week out from finals... and you dont want to flirt to much with form the week out.

Just wondering what your thoughts are, and if you thought medhurst should still have played this week, despite his form... and if JA should play next week, if he has a similar game to medhurst.

Jack will almost certainly play full back as a replacement for presti

Ball, Beams, Blair, Sidebottom will cover the half forward forward pocket positions

That has to be super obvious right?

Agree with Opti, but hypothetically if both were in contention for the same role up forward, I'd be choosing Medhurst.

You'd have thought so.

People pay far too much attention to the positions players are selected in. You have to take them with a grain of salt.

I dont think he will with Goldsack coming back into the team... we have 6 defenders in

Goldsack, brown, maxwell, toovey, heath, and johnson, and then leigh brown also named in the back... He will most likely float down there to fill in any holes.

If we are going to play JA, we will play him as a forward come finals time, not a backman

agreed in a hypothetical Medhurst would also be my choice

One day just for funzies i want malthouse to name blair in the ruck, presti at full forward, pendlebury at full back so on and so forth just to watch the meltdown.

Leroy is a ruck forward these days
Toovey, heath and johnson will all run through the middle wing like they did against the cats.

Remember malthouse is still a defensive coach at heart so playing 7 in form defenders (especially when Heaths form upfield since the saints game has been good) is hardly out side the realms of possibilities. FWIW we played 7 "true" defenders against geelong (presti, reid, harry, maxy, tooves, heath, sack)

Just for funzies I'd like us to actually line up like that against Hawthorn if we beat Adelaide. Blair will probably compete well against the Hawthorn rucks :o

We'd still win by 5 goals

Blair would get double didgit hitouts too i reckon, Skipper is already shitting bricks

I agree that Anthony is almost certainly going to play defence but to be fair to the O.P he has played foward so it's not as if it was Presti had been named at FF and he has made a thread about that. I actually thought Medhurst should have gotten another week but alas he is obviously not in the plans for september and so there is no point wasting the spot in the side.

Anthony was named at ff in the vfl team and also davis is playing vfl also

Collingwood
B: Jack Carter, Lachlan Keeffe, Tristan Francis
HB: Anthony Corrie, Scott Reed, Simon Buckley
C: John McCarthy, Shane O'Bree, Jaxson Barham
HF: Ryan Cook, Josh Fraser, Tarkyn Lockyer
F: Ben Sinclair, John Anthony, Leon Davis
R: Cameron Wood, Paul Medhurst, Josh Thomas
Int: Kris Pendlebury, Jarrad Blight, Shae McNamara, Pat Liston, Tom Young, Tim Hunt, Ryan Colbert, Tom Sundberg

I'm still amazed people actually think the positions players are 'listed' in, is where they'll play.

They have Tippett, Walker and Porplyzia down there. People honestly believe Jack will be in the forward line?

I think there's a very good chance he will be. Certainly no grounds for ridiculing someone who thinks so, in fact it makes the ridiculers look foolish.

Malthouse is just trying to give a run to players placed 23-30 in our pecking order, in case they are needed in September.

Medhurst failed to grasp his chance and unfortunately for him wont get another shot at it in 2010 unless we have a few injuries.

This week its Jack's turn.

Our biggest issue is trying to get the forward line formula right. MM has send a huge shot across the bow by leaving both Medhurst and Davis out of the side. If you dont perform, you are out. If you keep presenting in the VFL, you will get your chance.

This decision gives Anthony to play the vacant forward pocket role, albeit as a leading target not a crumber. We have enough quality mids in the roster to do the crumbing.

Considering Leigh Brown's form forward of centre in recent weeks, you can pretty safely say JA and Leroy will be swapping positions.

JA playing as a...a..Forward!? Poppycock! Ridiculous!

I mean, it's not like he kicked 50 goals last year or anything! Why is it beyond the realms of possibility that the best kick for goal in our side would not be playing up forward? IMHO I reckon Jack would be an absolutely killer in for our forward line if he kicks his usual 2+ goals per game, and applies the pressure that is required. In reality I reckon Mick will consider alternating JA and BBLB between the forward line and defense, creating massive headaches for Craig and any other coaches if he Jack plays well enough to hold his spot.

Yeah think you're right ... but if the case arises they could swap ends to pitch hit too.

Yep, in all honesty I think he'll spend a little bit of time at both ends, especially if the game looks done and dusted early on.

Goldsack in JA in

One backman out one forward out.

Not sure what the big puzzle is:confused:
