THE FREMANTLE-Carlton impasse over young ruckman Robbie Warnock is no closer to resolution, despite the process going to mediation less than a day before the end of the exchange period.

At issue is the value assigned to the 21-year-old, who has played just 21 games since Fremantle took him with pick 42 in the 2005 NAB AFL Draft.

Carlton's general manager of football operations, Steven Icke, said despite talks between the clubs, a trade was no closer.

"Nothing – we've been to mediation which was good from the point-of-view that both parties have now gone away to talk to their respective camps," Icke said.

"We were talking anyway before mediation, and I think we were a little bit naïve as to what the mediation process was all about, but at least we've been talking.

"We'll continue to talk and see where it takes us.

"We're hopeful that we'll be able to get a fair and reasonable exchange done, but as I stand here now, we're still no closer to an outcome."

Fremantle has been insisting that Warnock is worth a first round pick, while Carlton has been just as adamant that their early second round pick is correct. Talk from outside the clubs has speculated that the side issue of players or additional picks has been the problem, but Icke said it was nothing that complicated.

Is it really worth all the effort? Surely there is a point where you have to say, we just cant deal with them ...
 
Meh I'm not fussed either way ...

Fact is Freo's trading record since they came into the comp is appalling ..

We would still find an extremely good player at pick 24 in this draft anyway ..

Regardless of what happens, I hope we never deal with Freak-mantle at the trade table again, they are as selfish and arrogant as the Pelican led Hawks :D
 
maybe if we take this guy off their hands too, it'll seal the deal?:confused:

You have got to be joking....You've had top picks for the last few years cause your tanking....Murphy, Gibbs, Kruz, Judster was a deal you benefited from "the fact he wanted ot come here...

Sure you can pick a player at 24,,but it would take time to get them in the system..

If you want a good tilt at the playoffs next year, Warnock is a ready made, young hard to find Ruckman..

If he was in the draft now, he'd go top 3.....Thats what its all about....You are willing to pay him $400,000 a year.....

Do you want it NOW or do you want to wait a couple of years...by them Fev and Judd may be on the decline....

Pick 6 ,,,,,do the deal...for the 2009 season.....you already have a surplus of Young Picks with limited experience from the last few years..

Yeah...Nah thats ok you can keep Warnock and we will keep our #6 and #24, it would be good to have him but 95% of Blues supporters can live with the fact that Freo don't take what we have offered and he goes to Melbourne. Freo loose in the end, all you Freo supporters are saying that we are ripping you off, well fine if you think that then like I said let him to go to Melbourne for nothing. We are happy either way, good luck to Freo for 09 and seriously hope you guys make the finals. I had you in for finals in 08, good luck and congrats on sticking to you guns.

Freagle supporter, you completely miss the point. Our list and it's potential is no concern of yours in this trade. Your concern is getting the best team for your Club. Negotiation in any field, is always a function of the leverage each side has. The Blues really are happy to walk away from this trade, and we know if we do that Freo get nothing. It's going to take Harvey a lot of ticka to swallow his ego, and put your Club's best interests first and take pick 24 rather than nothing. I personally think Harvey's too weak and ineffective and the Blues will end up keeping pick 24, and the Dees will get Warnock in the draft for free. Keeping pick 24 in a strong draft is a decent outcome for the Blues. Missing out on pick 24 is a complete disaster. The Blues have drawn the line in the sand here. :)

Well I hope in the mediation they point out that Robbie wants to come home to family...If thats the case, then why can't he go to Melbourne or Richmand or St. Kilda....And Freo can get what he's worth.. Better than what you are giving.

The whole publiciy of the mediation thing is putting Freo as the stubborn one.......Which is BIASED reporting and perception because Freo is everyones punching bag......Typical Vic-arrogance

This stinks that he only wants to go to one club...It makes a mockery of the draft and process..They might as well go to free Agency like the US.

Speaking of Mediation....what about Josh Carr.. Are they(the AFL pro-vic) gonna make sure that transaction will be on the up and up..As that looks, he will go into the PSD...almost looks planned...

Out-of-contract players have the right to choose what Club they go to. He only wants to go to Carlton. You basically want him to go somewhere he doesn't want to go to so you can get a draft pick a few extra spots higher, which doesn't mean anything anyway. Classic Freo stupidity. Looks like you'll get nothing from this trade now. :)

Guess what... you win first prize in the ******** stakes.

We are not going to pay way over the top for a player who you guys selected 4 years ago at pick 42 and has only played 21 games for your club and has problems getting a game over yet another of your dodgy rucks.

We'll keep picks 6 and 24 and you can go cry yourself to sleep knowing that your club has managed to get nothing from something where you were getting value.

We will keep up the bargining until 2pm and if we dont get what we want and what the player wants, then you guys get nothing.

And you won't get a ready made starting 22, young, rare 7ft+ mobile Ruckman, who you are willing to pay $400K and year to ;... to complete your squad to make a long awaited Finals assalt.. instead you are willing to gamble with a pick 24 to satisfy the above....

You see, pick 24 is a NON-certian gamble.......Warnock is not..

So I see it as we lose a non-certain pick 24(hell pick 49 may be a better player) and you lose Warnock, a proven piece of your 2009-2010 finals tilt.......
