Spring is finally here,at last.
Only 60 odd days til the Great Race.
Cup Weights are out & the top 12 are all from o/s.

Can anyone find a local hope? It's looking a bit grim.
I have no problem with the o/s horses, without them Mr Prudent would be a Melb Cup winner.
Gotta wonder what's happened to the staying ranks in the last few years.

What do we all like with 2 months to go?

Seth.

I sometimes visit the aap racing messageboard, you get some uk racing fans in there and their knowledge on the invaders is very handy. This year there's a ned called Contraband who could be coming over and at 50kgs apparently is an absolute steal. A few weeks back it was backed off the map first up against their top level stayers and after being ridden all wrong hit the front round the bend only to weaken slightly to 5th in a close finish. I read a few writeups on their websites over there and it's fairly highly rated. Would be worth taking in doubles i would think.

Half Hennessy is my tip to go very well this spring

Hey Deej,

You would obviously know of the continuing saga on AAP:

Patsy Fagan V Speedy Gonsalez or
The Europeans V The Locals

Funny stuff.
It's a good read,Patsy declared Mubtaker at the $31 about 6 weeks ago,not sure about the 58 kg though.

Half Hennessey,mmm,not so sure.
Couldn't get round the corners here last year as a 3yo.
Always wary of that Brisbane winter form,it's either great or terrible.

Wondering about Godolphin this year, supposedly struggling but that's when they go best.
Their 3 best efforts were with lower rated performers.
Still dont know how Give The Slip didnt get the cash.
Take Ethereal out & it wins by 6 despite 4 vets exams before the race.Freak performance.

mummify at 52.5 looks alright

don't mind sound action or arena valadora at 50 and 49.5 but still plenty of question marks about these two.

Yeah, I like the Bell & Speedy & co. vs Sunline & groupies, it is fantastic stuff.

Do you post there?

I do sometimes, as "Northerly Fan". You've probably read my stuff although I don't post too often.

I find Patsy to be a good source of information, not specifically on neds like Hawk Wing who I think he totally overrated, but re the stayers his information comes in extremely handy.

Yep,just post as Seth,rarely though.

Should have guessed you'd be something about Northerly.

What's happened to this board,it was great last year with Danny Chook/Mocca,Davo etc.

Looks like its you & me Deej.
Cmon punters,we need some fresh blood.
Don't be shy,all opinions welcome.
Even if they're crap, you gotta start somewhere.

Havent got too many opinions as I dont follow it closely. I just listen to the experts and read what I can when the racing is on. Last couple of SC's have been profitable. Wouldnt have the slightest knowledge on the invaders. Whats the URL for that AAP messageboard you guys look at??? Wouldnt mkind seeing what I can find out.

I love the carnival, especially as I live in Ascot Vale. The pubs are great this time of year.

you get free race stats as well which are pretty handy. Some of the message boards with racing are quite interesting as people who give their own opinions but often your own opinion is the best.

Good stuff lads.
If you can't get interested at this time of year you never will.

Opinions are formed after participation so read up,tune in & let's
make this board the place to be this Spring.

This week we have the Craiglee & Ascot Vale at Headquarters.
Chelmsford,Roman Consul & Furious in Sydney.

Memo to John Hawkes, hurry up & get Lonhro down here.
Not winning any credibility beating 2nd stringers in Sydney.
I could beat most of those at WFA.
Not that the Craiglee's full of WFA stars either.
At least it'll be a contest.

Seth.

I mainly follow Sydney racing.

I cannot believe it is $25 to go to Flemington tomorrow. To me that is ridiculous to charge that much this early in the Spring.

Its a pity Seamer is still injured as Half Hennessy is much better when he is on there. The way he rode it up in Brisbane was a joy to watch. I just hope this time Half Hennessy can perform in Melbourne to its full potential.

Grand Armee is another horse to follow for sure. When it drops down in weight it will be very very hard to beat.

They also said Star of Florida looked very very impressive in track work and should do well.

Are you from Sydney?
Just can't take it seriously,Gai or hawkes win 2/3 races.
No punting value.

What is it about Gai,why dont her horses travel?
Thought she might have turned it around last year, won 2 races at the Caulfield carnival but apart from Assertive Lad,couldn't get arrested.

Time to try something different.

Seth.

I reckon Sydney racing is a farce. Only 2 trainers and 3 jockeys worth backing, the rest hardly get a sniff. Also I'm yet to be convinced the standard is much good any more, their grp1's are often sit and sprint and lack real quality.

Lohnro is a great sprint/miler, but if anyone tries to tell me he's anything topline over 2000 I will get my wallet out. I know a good business opportunity when i see one. His only chance for a Cox is if this year's field is the worst in years, which looks a possibility if Falbrav and Moon Ballad and co decide to go to Santa Anita instead.

No im from Melbourne but went to Randwick when Coll played Sydney. Its better for doing quaddies....lol The form is truer i guess you could say and you can punt with a bit more confidence.
