The melbourne board is a joke and so is the club. Finally we arnnt the ones in the paper reguarding our finances. If melbourne go under (remember the members voted for a merge) then we should be sitting pretty.

This could give us an extra 10 years to get ourselves set up and to really capitalise on the whole western suburbs theme rather than just footscray.

The lack of threads on their page just goes to show that even the supporters and members dont give a **** about the club. They dont have the spirit, passion and committment to their club that we have.

Go the doggies!!!!!!!!

Harsh. Every club has it's die-hard supporters and I'm sure some of the Melbourne supporters would be getting that sick feeling in their stomachs right now that we are so familiar with. More to the point, the AFL won't be too keen to go back to an odd-numbered competition (the byes are a pain in the backside) so it'll be two clubs or no clubs going under. I agree that it's a good feeling not being the ones facing mergers or extinction in the face in the off-season, but I still feel bad for the Melbourne supporters. It was us a year ago.

Their administration is a joke so I hope they can get their act together. And I think it's time they took off the rose coloured glasses and realised that their list needs an overhaul too.

Actually it shows that Melbourne supporters care enough to create 3 unofficial club websites, while others such as yours have none.

You can't seriously think Melbourne are worse off than you are. If worst came to worst we would merge, there will always be a club named "Melbourne" whereas you have already changed your name once, what's next?

Very harsh thread and very ill informed.

I dont know if you have noticed the glass house you, me and all the other bulldog supporters are living in but please stop throwing stones.

What so your saying the more threads on each clubs board the more the supporters love there club. I dont think it really make a difference how many threads there are.
And when you say "They dont have the spirit, passion and committment to their club that we have.", that is very wrong, im sure all clubs supporters/members have all three things that you mentioned.
Geez after all we have been through( and still going through, even if it is a lot better now) i didnt expect a bulldog supporter to say that stuff about another club.

Instead of dagging the Demons, we need to maintain solidarity with the clubs that at various times have found themselves in a similar situation to ourselves, ie Roos, Dees, Cats, Saints.

I personally don't get any joy out of seeing others suffer the anxieties that we have gone through. We're not out of the woods ourselves yet, anyway.

Don't let's become like the so-called "BIG" clubs (in their own minds) who have taken pleasure in plotting and gloating over our demise.

Hang in there, Dees.

agree wholeheartedly

I also hope the Demons can bounce back.

Wise words. Maybe some of us were too young to remember 1989 or have already forgotten what it felt like back then. Just cast your memory back to 1996. 20c? Chris Grant?

I went to Fitzroy's last Melbourne match at the MCG against Richmond. I never want to experience something like that again for my club or any other Melbourne club (well, maybe except for Collingwood or Richmond ;)).

Good points by all (except maddog). We of all clubs need to support all other clubs who find themselves in financial crisis. We know what it is like to be down on our knees and it ain't pleasant. Therefore I plead with all Bulldogs that we should not bag or say anything derogatory against the Dees. We should in fact give them as much support as required (not talking financial - more moral). It seems like the doggies are slowly working their way out of finacial crisis (we are not safe yet) and we are slowly rebuilding a team that will be extremely competitive in the years to come. It has only been through the hard work of the administrators, coaching staff and supporters that this has been achieved.

I agree wholeheartedly with the tenor of this thread. The death of any club will have a multiplier effect on overall support for AFL. I know dozens of Fitzroy supporters who will not watch an AFL game because of the way they were shafted. We should avoid the big club chauvanism exemplified by McGuire/McMahon and not bag clubs who are doing it tough.

The only thing I would say about Melbourne - unlike the doggies and my beloved Roos is that they have heaps of rich supporters. Ron Walker could wipe out their debt with his beer money!!!

And look what happened the year we did change our name to the "Western Bulldogs"?

I'd prefer to hate Richmond then Melbourne this year, so good luck to your club, I hope you stay a float like us!!:D

Struck a cord there...... he he.

Did anyone listern to sport 1278 on the 13th. Not 1 melbourne supporter rang in to comment on hooksy and Healys comments. Even those guys were saying the melb supporters dont give a ****.

If a majority of your members vote for a merger then i reakon u dont desearve to be here. Simple.

Theyve sold out 1 already, why wouldnt they do it again.

The melbourne roos. I think it has a nice ring to it.

Maybe Melbourne supporters have got better things than listen to that drivel, Healy has always had it in for Melbourne.

Secondly, you know **** all about the MFC, the MAJORITY of Melbourne supporters didnt vote for the merger cause a majority of the supporters didnt get the chance to vote because they were not able to get into the venue, and a lot of the supporters left outisde showed what their vote was going to be.

Your a bulldogs supporter for christs sake, you got nothing to be cocky about, your financial plight is just as bad or worse than ours. One thing that people may not know is that Melbourne have no long term liabilities unlike many other clubs so it is not as bad as people think and the losses can be resurrected in time.

Melbourne supporters may not show passion in your view but there is passion believe me.

Here, Here! Jolly good post lad. By jove you showed them didn't you ;)

Its no good seeing Clubs battle financially, when supporters have to stop worrying about whether or not [insert player here] will get a kick and start worrying about whether or not the Club will be around or not ruins footy a bit.

Just wondering. What exactly was the point of this thread Maddog? Grow a brain and then attempt to use it. At the moment you are simply just another troll.

Maddog check you facts...

The voting was a farce

Members were unable to vote on the night of the meeting when previously informed they could in mail out to members. The was at least 5,000 to 8,000 passionate members out of 20,000.

Also proxy voting of sponsors and categories were used by Ridley's Camp.

All clubs have there passionate supporters and my brother and mum and proof of that.

I remember the end of season 1989, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone (except maybe Richmond and Collingwood supporters :)). Our club actually did not exist for 3 days in October. Let's not gloat about being the 2nd poorest club in the AFL ATM. By the way, it took me years to get over Ricky Jackson and co knocking us out of the final 5 in Round 22 1987, so I don't love the Dees by any stretch.

Great game of footy though, wasnt it?

Flower was outstanding in the second half-noone was going to take his spot in the finals away from him that day.

It was a great game, local, despite the result. That game is proof that you shouldn't pick up players from other clubs who have blinders against you. Using that logic, we are a shoe-in to pick up Marty McGrath next year! Interesting to hear Malthouse this year mention 1987 as one of his most committed teams he has ever coached. I recall we lost the first 3 that year by an aggregate of around 250 points, but the team came around and got to within a whisker of finals action. We were no frills that year, but very effective. Would be nice to see similar hard work ethic qualities in the 2004 squad.

we all seem to be touchy yet you are telling people to get ****ed, good one.

Perhaps this being a BULLDOG board makes this thread useless.

But anyway why do you really want another team out of the comp, it can only do harm for the game as a whole and bring extinction closer to the bulldogs. Which is why people are soo 'touchy', because we have been so close to being out of the league before, we dont want it to happen to us, and wouldnt wish it to happen to any one else.
