Would have been the challenge as well, and that he's been given the power and freedom to completely reinvent the place however he sees fit. It's probably refreshing as a coach to be able to broom out just about the entire previous regime and bring in all your own people. There is still plenty of under-performing talent on the list, but we've also let go a number of the high draft picks that were supposedly going to see us dominate the league for a decade (Scully, Morton, Cook, McLean, Gysberts, Bate etc and possibly Tapscott, Strauss and Blease to join them). The list is less attractive than most other clubs in the league.

The money on offer would've helped too.

Yeah but you wouldnt take on a challenge that you thought was impossible, i believe he thinks he can have significant impact at this club and TBH apart from Nathan Jones , Colin Garland and maybe Jeremy Howe there isnt anyone at that club who can even be satisfied with there performance the last 2 years

He could make close to a million a year working as an academy coach and doing media tv shows on fox sports I think its an insult to the man that only money got him over the line
Well he was happy at Sydney's academy before they slashed his wages by 85%. You're kidding yourself if you don't think it was the money for the most part, the fact that he seems to like his job is a bonus.

I choose to think he has faith in us

Depends what the challenge is. To me it's turning a shambles and mockery of a football club into a proper and professional environment. We're not going to win anything and I highly doubt we'll get close to finals either. Roos was brought in to bring us up to par with the rest of the competition.

You and Show Some Fight may well be right, but like i said i choose to think theres far more potential in list than shown and Roos sees something he likes, I dont want to dream about a future of being good enough to win 5 games a season

Also factor in the two extra teams making it 10 teams missing out on finals instead of 8, and those two teams will accelerate away from us in terms of performance given the talent on their books and the young age of the list. Teams are going to be 'down' for longer as they've got a few extra places to climb in the pecking order to make finals.

Agree 100%, in turn that means teams will be 'up' for longer, I expect that Hawthorn, Geelong, Collingwood, Sydney will make the top 6 again. The only team who has dropped away who was consistently 'up' in recent history is St Kilda, who seemingly has be replaced by Freo. So it appers to be a very slow cycle now that elite professionalism has developed over the past few years.

Think Hawks could drop a bit soon (definitely not this year though), the majority of the core of their team is around 30 and over.

There isn't a whole lot of youth there that will be able to form a strong new core.

I'm pretty sure it's a bit of both.

The money would have got him across the line, but he would have carefully considered what level of success he thinks he could have - he wouldn't want to taint his future earning capacity with a Neeld-esque type of failure just for 2 years on a big wage.

I reckon our best chance comes from 3 places because no one wants to trade away a quality young mid

1- GWS or GC who have young mids falling out there ass who might want to come home , they can on trade those for positions they need more

While 'homesick' is a chance, I'd be more expect a Lamb- or Clark- style 'move for more games and more money' sort of homesickness.

To find the next Dom Tyson, look for GWS players who are repeatedly rumoured to be moving, dont re-sign a contract extension, or who arent offered one, or who play six or less games this season.

As far as currency goes, the Dom Tyson deal is a great model - player and a pick for two picks.

I don't like talking about this stuff so early on but I can tell you for an absolute fact there will be at least 2 gun mids leaving GWS one way or the other this season because they just can't squeeze in for a game.

GWS have found out that they have gone too heavy on mids with top picks and can't fit them all in now, hence a few surprise picks like plowman.

That does not surprise me at all, add the salary cap squeeze they're going to have and it's obvious. I'd love to know how you got his info but I don't expect you to tell your source.

If we end up with a pick that will land us a great young key forward then pull the trigger and go for it, although I'm hoping that we don't end up with a top 4 pick.

Get more mids via free agency, but next draft could be a bit awkward because we'll probably have to use our 2nd rounder on Billy Stretch. A lot could depend on what Frawley decides to do, if he goes then we'll have to replace him somehow and but it will give us an extra first round pick that we could trade off.

I doubt we'll have to use a 2nd rounder at this stage. Played in the carnival (I think?) underage but was far too slight. Needs a big season to go high up in the draft.
