Dear Mr Wright,
I read with interest the wishlist for next year's draw today in the paper. Our wish revolves around an Eaaster Thursday game with Carlton.

Can i suggest as a starting point that we BEG not to draw Geelong Twice again>> IT took nearly a decade to avoid the Skilled stadium trip again this year but getting them twice is/could cost us a finals berth. WE simply have done our time in this depertment...so not agian( ps how does Geelong-ist draw us and Melb twice this year???). How did a side that was 0-9 draw the top side twice??????

It is two guaranteed lossses and we should be concentrating on getting the same deal coll, carl, and ess have of being exempt from skilled stadium. We draw as many if not more than them ( coll excepted), so why should we get treated like the dockers.?
Any danger of a friday night game next year???

kind regards

The snag

The AFL will give us some Friday night games next year regardless of whether we want them or not (and yes, we will want them).
We didn't deserve any this year. Next year we do. It's that simple. And fact is, Richmond games rate well.

this time last year we probably were desperate not to play the Eagles at Subi......

There are alwasy a few that work out like that but happy to have any money you want that Geelong twice next year won't be desired by anyone.

Clearly the best team and simply, it is our turn to play them once

Im not bothered about playing geelong twice. They are the benchmark we have to reach and avoiding them is like putting our heads in the sand.

My request would be AT LEAST 1 friggen friday night game next year. We are the only club that didn't get one this year. A disgrace.

:thumbsd:

i love the geelong cat park game ctching the train down hungover stan=ding there drinking yourself stupid and then nearly missing the last train home, i like kp so much i went down and watched the practice match there this year.
We beat them there last time or was it the time before? either way we broke the hoodoo :)

Don't mind the KP games either. 15-minutes away for me.:thumbsu:
Also, wouldn't mind if we scheduled another York Park game. Even though most on here hate it. Have relatives in Launny and can make a weekend of it.

If I was to have a wish for next year it would be to play the top 4 sides from this year twice. Once in the first 8 weeks and the second time in the last 8 weeks of the season. The reason being that if we are going to become a genuine finals side we need to be able to compete with sides that currently sit at the top of the tree. The way I see it there is no point making the finals if you're not a real threat.

Before you all jump down my throat, let me clarify that. Making the finals this year for us would be great, as IMO, it would give the young players a taste for it and make the want it even more. After this year, however, I would not like it if we were making the finals but already knew we were no chance in hell of winning the whole thing. Hope that clears it up.

The only way we'll keep getting better is to keep on playing the better sides.

I just hope we get to play at the Gabba after two years not being there. Always a great excuse to get up there for a boys weekend.:thumbsu:

I will be flipping ropeable if we don't get a Gabba game

if we do....I'll buy whoever makes the trip up at least 1 beer ;) (more if we win)

I don't necessarily subscribe to that theory RT, although I know whereyou're coming from.
If the AFL is going to have such a lopsided, uneven draw, then why shouldn't we put our hands out and get as many 'winnable' games as we can. Exploit it as much as we can in my opinion. Not sure about you. But I couldn't give a rat's arse whether we make the finals next year by beating the bottom 8 sides twice and finishing 16 wins and finishing top 2.
fact is that (and I can't be bothered doing any research on this) there will be a couple of sides in the 8 this year that have benefitted from a favourable draw. And when that brings in an extra 5k onthe membership figures next year, do you reckon the clubs mind that they made it via a softer draw than what some others club receive?
In reality...what I want is a draw that enables us to win as many games as possible. Whether that's 2 games against the all the teams that finish bottom 4 this year, then so be it. If it reaps us 13 wins and a finals spot, then I'm happy.

Couldn't agree more Tugga,.

Look at Collingwood , they nearly made a GF courtesy of a lopsided draw and nearly pulled off a miracle win against geelong, because they were in the finals and not watching. Would they have made it with a tough draw??? NO

So, this we need a hard draw stuff is crap.

The best way for revenue, momentum etc to increase is to play finals.
WE simply shouldn't have to play the premier year, year out twice in a row( refer pervious years-geelong, WC, syd, etc) got them all TWICE!

I know where you're coming from too, its a bit like: Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I just think we would be a more respected team if we were able to compete with and beat the best teams and make finals than if we were to beat the occasional good side, win all the games against the rabble each year and make the 8.

Copy that. No probs there.
Frankly I don't give a rat's what other team's supporters say about us. If we make the finals next year, they'll say it's our once-in-12-years appearance and we won't get any respect anyway.
What if we have a really good season next year with a shithouse draw and finish 9th? But on the other hand what if we played the same style and brand of footy and finished 6th with an easier draw? I know which one I'd pick.
My opinion is that we develop within and let outside influences handle themselves. If we do the right things and put them into place, we'll go places regardless of who we play.

You do know that every year since the Top 8 began, a team from the bottom 8 has jumped into the top 4 and one from the top 4 has dropped out the 8.

Yep, RT agree in principle from 2011. Until then, give me easy Collingwood draws for 2 years so we can get into the 8 and a bit of experience and confidence that comes with playing finals footy.

I have no problem cheating our way into the 8 - even if it is 6,7 or 8th in 09 or 10. Eagles did it in 02-04 and everyone thought they were making up the numbers.

Well that proved to be a crock of shit din it?
