Now this is the reason I'm glad Im not up there.
I would really lose it & it would get ugly............. but hey take this line from the article, I think it just sums it up perfectly.

Ray Clarke, of Wynnum, said Brisbane needed Akemanis's enthusiasm and skill.

"It's time for Matthews to take a cold shower and put the interests of the game ahead of his own ego," he said.

& this from an 'Aker backer' please.

Unfortunately this is the type of mentality we are dealing with......... if I had to sit next to this guy........Well.......mmmmm. As I said it would get Ugly.

An open letter to Ray Clarke of Wynnum:

Ray,

Please take less of the blue ones, they make you hallucinate.

It's a shame that at a time when the crowd should be letting Mal Michael know how much we value him, he focus will be again be on the same bloke it's been on all year.

Long after the Akkabakka t-shirts have faded or been put in mothballs or given to the Salvos, the Lions FC will still be going.

In 20 years time, people will still be wearing their Lions jumpers, scarves, beannies and members caps to games but I'll wager that not too many will be seen in "Akkabakka" t-shirts.

Individualism is transient.....the club is forever.

A few people in my area rushed to get them from gate 5 where apparently Rory was handing them out. One girl was gaga. As much as I thought it was a complete crock at the time I now regret not grabbing one as it could be up there with the "Joh For PM" Sticker I have tucked away somewhere.

Thanks for the memories Jas.
But the club has my 100% undivided support.

Go Lions!:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Spot on.

Bye Jason, it was great while is lasted, but it is now time to move on, for all concerned.

Didn't seem to be many in the crowd, judging from the TV. They showed a group of about 7 asians wearing them, but the way they were laughing and photographing each other made me think they were toursists.

Anyway I would have grabbed a couple. Always short of cloth to polish the car with.

There was a couple of young women wearing them a couple af rows behind me but since they spent 90 percent of the game talking about their friends wedding, I'd chalk them into the "Attention Whore" category rather than "true football fan" category.

I'll never forget him actually, I'll still be telling my grandkids about one of the most naturally gifted footballers who gave me chills down my spine, and how lucky I was to see him play for my club.

Best of Luck to Aker and his family, I'll look forward to some time in the hopefully near future when the dust has settled, and we can heal the rift.

I agree with your sentiments and I suspect we all do.

This time yesterday I was reading the baords, checking there was no trolling etc but could not post as I was so conflicted. At 4pm yesterday I decided that I wasn't going to go to the game as I felt sick by it all, couldn't give a stuff if we won or not and decided I would rather go get a DVD and forget it all.

The at 5pm I said nope stuff it I'm gonna go anyway.

I am so glad I did. Although these two teams wearing these jumpers should never EVER meet again.

It suddenly all came into perspective. I support the Brisbane Lions and as such take the good with the bad. I will miss Aker immensely and am devasted at the thought of him not being with us again or in the future regardless of what has passed. An individual truly is not bigger than the club.

I am excited at what our future holds.

LL. This is a superb post and I congratulate you. All are my sentiments. I apologise for hammering away at a couple of posters but it is mighty difficult if one percieves that these supporters are putting the individual above the club. The Lions could no doubt have handled this issue with better man mangement skills. Every one who is angry at Aker knows that and that was discussed but in the end we want the club to go forward without constant sniping about it, without posts being put onto the main board telling oppostion supporters that the club is on the downward slide or any other cheap insult hurled at it. Last night the crowd was very down for a while but once the boys got going they lifted and I caught some very elated supporters when that siren went and that included me. I too am excited at what the future holds.

Characters like 'Jan' and 'Berrick' give me the ****s, what's the odds that they have no idea what they are talking about.

The team comes before the individual, always has done and always will do.

Chicken or the egg buddy...
They may give you the ****s but they are the ones who pay these blokes salaries...

Not Jan and Berrick.

I just don't want anything to do with the Lions any more, I'm ashamed of them," she said. "I so desperately don't want him to go but I will follow him wherever he goes.

Probably spent their last $100 on t-shirt printing anyway.

Yes when I read that article, it summed up exactly what I feel. I took a rello to the game on Saturday night who is a Geelong member. He was having a go about us having a bad year. I don't consider we are, I think we have uncovered some great talent with our limited resources. We will win more games than we did last year, and we have still the possibility of having Browny back this year and maybe Lappin. Most people I spoke to were sad about Aka but were a hundred per cent behind the coach and the team. It was great to see Vossy interacting with the crowd after the game.

As a side note I was really impressed with how many Hawthorn players went and spoke to Mal after the game. It shows what high regard other teams have for him. To lose Mal will be have more effect than losing Aka.
