Fingers crossed that Carrara's naming rights get sold to KFC, we're overdue for KFC Stadium

I know they rarely get as big a crowd as they did on Saturday, but there has to be some collaboration to improve the traffic exiting the stadium. Relying on buses that only take 60 at a time at best feels unsustainable especially when waiting in a queue for the best part of 30 minutes post match just to get on one. All talk of a light rail extension has disappeared (higher priority in getting the extension beyond Burleigh to the Airport).

The club has pushed for light rail. Unfortunately, they can only do so much as it’s reliant on state/fed funding)

they literally load one bus at a time (one queue) post-game heading to nerang station. then the line becomes about 150m long and they start loading 2 busses. been that way since 2011, would have thought they'd figure it out by now, considering how much abuse the staff at the bus queues get lol.

It was the same to Broadbeach South after the Swans visited. Even Robina Stadium's buses have similar issues

The issues getting to and from the ground are also compounded by the lack of hospitality establishments in the area. If there were more pubs and restaurants in close proximity then fans would enter and vacate the precinct in a more staggered and orderly fashion. However, since it’s on the side of a highway with nothing but a golf course across the road, all the spectators want to GTFO as soon as the game is finished, which creates a log jam. Clearly not a lot of thought was put into the logistics during the site selection process, or perhaps there was and the QLD government didn’t care because it was only an AFL stadium and they wanted it done on the cheap.

This could have all been avoided if they'd just given the licence to Southport Sharks and upgraded their ground into the stadium. It would have been pretty close to the University Hospital station. And if they'd extended the line up to Harbour Town, they could have put a station directly outside.

Good point. As it is, it’s only 700m from uni hospital station anyway. Super close to the Smith St motorway as well.

Went out for a look as here on holiday, asked if they did a tour, security guard looked at me like i was a moron. It looks cool. plus the facilities around it, but must be a pain when crowded

Maybe off topic, but where are the suns fans here? havent seen any sign they exist until I drove to the ground, no merch in shops, people in clothes etc.

Introducing People First Stadium

The home of the Gold Coast SUNS has today been unveiled as People First Stadium, the new name in Australian banking that unites Heritage Bank and People’s Choice, following their merger last year.

People First Bank is one of Australia’s leading customer-owned banking organisations, with over 730,000 members nationally and $24.6 billion in assets.

As a member-focused institution, People First Bank’s brand says exactly what it’s about – people.

Fittingly, the first event to be held at the venue under its new name will be a sold-out AFL Opening Round match between the SUNS and Richmond on Saturday afternoon.

People First Bank CEO Peter Lock says the venue will continue to be used as an integral community asset.

“After all the planning which has gone into our new name and brand, it’s fantastic to see it come to life at this magnificent stadium. It’s a big milestone for us and this is a big stage for our launch,” Mr Lock said.

“The People First Bank branding will adorn this great stadium for the next four years, at least, and there’s no doubt it will provide us with incredible exposure and name recognition right across the country.

“As a bank we have our roots in Queensland, going back almost 150 years, so it’s quite fitting that this is where we’re launching our new chapter.

“Since we took over the naming rights of the stadium almost exactly a year ago, we’ve used the opportunity to support the local community in a number of ways – particularly in helping to widen access to the facility – and this will continue. We’ve always been member-owned and community-focused and we always will be.”

After becoming the Gold Coast SUNS’ Stadium Partner in 2023, People First Bank has used the venue as a focal point to support the people who support them, with the stadium also hosting a raft of world-class and international events.

International music acts including Harry Styles, Paul McCartney, Post Malone and P!NK have seen people from across Queensland and Australia converge on People First Stadium in the last 12 months with the venue also hosting Gold Coast SUNS AFL and AFLW fixtures and Brisbane Heat Big Bash League matches.

People First Bank has also opened the stadium doors to numerous community groups through its Stadium Loans competition, with junior football training and birthday parties hosted at the venue as well as the Gold Coast Homelessness Network’s annual Connect2Home event in August.

Gold Coast SUNS chief Executive Mark Evans says the club is delighted to have People First Bank associated with its home venue for years to come.

“We have enjoyed an incredibly successful first year with People First Bank as the Gold Coast SUNS’ Stadium Partner and we are excited to continue partnering alongside an organisation who shares our absolute commitment to the community,” Evans said.

“People First Stadium is just that – for the people. It’s a valued asset for our region which will continue to engage a wide range of communities and bring diverse content to the Gold Coast.

“Like People First Bank, we are a community-oriented club with a commitment to our members.

“We are looking forward to welcoming people from far and wide to our venue, beginning with Saturday afternoon’s blockbuster Opening Round match against Richmond.”

Heard they're also looking to introduce a tailgate party type event before Suns games - I have no idea what the car parking is like, but it makes sense given the lack of proximity to bars etc..

That would actually be the best option for that site, although the main issue would be this ridiculous country we live in called Australia. People having fun in public and consuming alcohol - the authorities will have it shut down in a jiffy.

Yes you're right, but told it's seriously on the cards.
